Zangief Combos

Its a great mix-up, catch someone off guard and its a sure way to level the playing field if not kill them.

You have to be careful though, players who know the match-up really well (like my friends, i play gief too much :P) will be looking for gief to tick his ultra when he gets low on health solely because of how destructive the scenario you described is.

I still can’t do: short or jab buffered with 360, walk forward, 360, ultra. Is there some kind of trick?

no trick just practice it. it takes a little bit of time. You’ll get it. It took me a long time to get the lv 5 hard challange mode for gief . . . so yeah just practice

you cant walk forward for too long or the game will forget you’re inputting a 720

and you dont have to do another full 360, it recognizes a 540 as a 720

Oh well I thought you could walk much as Blanka when he does his crossup ultra.

So my gief is getting better and better, I just won second place in small a local tournament. I am getting to the point where I use SPD’s and lariats sparingly and pokes more an more often but I can’t for the life of me get double LP or LK into Green Hand. I can do a single LP or LK (or close MP or MK) into Green Hand, but the double is just not working for me.

Any pointers?

im having a similar issue.

I can get lk -> EXGH everytime i try, but when i add more to the combo it feels like the same timing for EXGH doesnt work and i always whiff at the end

Does the timing change? Am i just psyching myself out?

uppercut command (623 ) can be done in few other ways.
323 or 313
so if you start from forward crouch, 3
hit pp or kk then 23+pp or 31+pp
if you start from back crouch, 1
first p, then when you do 2nd p, do 3+p or k
then 23+pp or 13+pp

Guys just read the first post of this thread. You have to link the hit before the EXGH.

damn after about 3 hours of practicing in training mode i can now do: crouching jab, crouching jab, light kick, exgh

its still tough to do reliably for me. I can get the lk->exgh to come out easy, but putting the 2 jabs in front of it really screws me up for some reason.

and actually using it in a match will take a lot more practice.

Any pointers with doing c.lk,c.lk xx EXGH because its a bitch to pull that one off.

um… practice… The links really aren’t that bad “offline”. Online, it’s a crapshoot so I never attempt it. I only use cr.lp, cr.lk xx EXGH.

crapface is right . . . totally a crapshoot online. I always miss the EXGH after the second c.lk. I’d rather do c.lk > kkk lariet. Much safer

I wouldn’t say that’s much safer. You don’t really have much time to hit confirm. So if they block it, they can punish the kkk lariat. Just use the lp into lk into EXGH bnb. I land those 95% of the time online even with lag. And even if I do screw up, usually the GH doesn’t come out so I’m still safe. However, every now and then, I would either whiff the lk because I judged my distance wrong or I would off time it slightly and the lk would be blocked which leads the EXGH to be blocked. But half of the time that happens, I’ll have enough time to notice it to DC the GH if I have the meter.

c.lk >kkk or ppp only hits when c.lk hits closest.
its just ez low dmg combo that u can’t even cross up after lariat knock down.
where as c.lk > exgh allow u to do full wake up game.

c.lk > c.lk link is just practice, thats all it takes.
you can do slide double button method to get it bit easier but if u get the timing down, u don’t really need it that badly. it does help online i guess. cuz i don’t have problem connecting it online most of the time. i don’t play on bad connection tho…

c.lk > c.lk link also has longer range than lp and if blocked, it does not gard link to 2nd lk so opponent can try to jump out and while trying to jump, 2nd lk will hit.
altho this link on block can be countered between lk with srk, this brings another mind game.
because if other player know about the counter on lk link, you can stop after first lk and bait the srk then block and throw. if they don’t know, its safe to keep linking.

actualy to interupt the lk with a SRK is pretty hard and most time the enemy will get punished for the try instead of punishing you for open one frame^^(thats the hole 1frame!!) +the enemy can not use autoguard!

with Zangiefs c.lp, c.lp. s.lk. s.mp, my s.mp is never part of the combo or it woffs. Can some one tell how it should be timed?
