Interesting idea on the hybrid stick. My first instinct was “crazy talk” - but I play on a hitbox, so I’m a fan of crazy stuff.

Personally, me likely hitbox for Zangief. But I’d be highly intrigued to see how a stick/analog stick would work. There’d have some way to deal with opposing inputs. The player would have to get accustomed to letting one go to neutral before activating the other. If someone wants to work up a prototype, I’d be interested to see if it works. Till then, I’ll be doing tachi-720s on my hitbox.

The more I think about it, though…for my part, there’s nothing that you said that can’t be done with a hitbox or even a stick. I posted a video a while back of a walking 720 (like Hayao does often - not truely standing, but 720 -> walk forward -> press button), and a tiger knee-U2. It’s not fantastic quality, but it’s done with a stick.

These days I’m on a hitbox and I’m more experienced, and even more precise with inputs. I do love the way Vangief buffers SPD into his footsies, though. His technique can be done on a stick, but it’s way easier on an analog pad.

Interesting how you mentioned the double directional inputs. I wonder how PS3 handles it D-PAD + Analogue, I hadn’t noticed.

If there was a prototype, I would imagine that the analogue would OVER-RIDE the stick or the stick would OVER-RIDE the analogue, depends how you want to set it. Instead of being inconvenient and having the need to go back to neutral. Like for me, I would stick the analogue to OVER-RIDE the stick, so I would play general footsies with the stick, and each time I went for the SPD, the ANALOGUE on top of the stick, would take over as the dominant control. Until I returned that Analogue to neutral, my stick wouldn’t function. But it makes sense to allow the stick to return to neutral, but not always.

Each of the three controller types: pad, stick, hitbox (keyboard): have their own merit, advantages and disadvantages.

If you can combine them together, you will have an edge.

What is it that you find great about hitbox? How does it compare to keyboard? and Stick?

Can you get this option select to work on your hit box.

I’m going to guess, you can do it better on hitbox, over pad and stick. As it can be done on keyboard.

So far I can tell Crown is the best stick to play Gief with. I haven’t try the Edge though.
