I dont like super jumping against you:shake::sad:
josh360 and snake are pretty beastly. Great matches guys. fooled me in the beginning with all the choking.
The boat deck stage in the J360 matches is “Next To You” by Darude if anyone cares. Not sure if it had been stated already.
I was gonna say…good to know it gets better later on, though I may never see it because of the usual WMP problems and large files, ugh…
^-- What problems are you referring to?
eh just problems I usually have streaming big files. I like to stream the vids, and then save afterwards (which after streaming, doesn’t take too long).
But with big files like this, it usually streams for however many mins (5-10-20) then just stops. The little tracker and time will keep going, but the vid stops. These files also take about 10mins to even start.
I have a better chance of streaming/dl’ing at work, unless they are AVIs, which unfortunately these are. blech
Yeah, AVI Files cannot be “streamed”. My server is not CAPABLE of “streaming” huge AVI files, especially given that AVI Files cannot be streamed.
This is one of many reasons why I hate AVI. It’s a stupid file format.
Just take the original footage and export it as another type.
It’s always quick when I do it.
If anything, make a youtube account and put it on youtube, that way people with slower connections don’t have to wait to download. You can also further split the matches.
It’s kind of you to make up work for me. I’ll put it on the calendar.
OK, my server now forces downloads of AVI files. It will not let you stream them by default.
Thanks for bringing this inconvenience to my attention.
I didn’t tweak WMV files because WMV is probably going to perform better in this scenario.
I didn’t tweak MPEG files because there’s not a lot of them on my site. Not a bad idea though.
EDIT: Interesting, looks like my new processor (that I’m still waiting for) kicks ass in encoding tests. perf tests - that’s cool.
The way I look at it, preppy is offering his services for free, so all complaining is moot.
yeah, pretty much.
Was just a suggestion/advice since I see a lot of people having problems.
Makes no difference to me as I dl’d and watched the vids a while ago.
No need to neg bomb.
I didn’t neg bomb you for that. If somebody else did, that’s not my business. If you go Premium, it’s easy enough to see who pos or neg reps you. If you don’t go Premium, please don’t complain. And accusing people of neg bombing you is lame. I thought about neg bombing you for this which I found pretty stupid, but if I recall correctly I thought anybody from Brooklyn is OK with me and so I didn’t. But I might have, since I really really hate random non-focused hate: it’s not constructive.
Consider me more aware than anybody else you could likely think of that AVI is a bullshit horrendous format at this point in history.* I hate it, fucking loathe it, and would happily reencode everything to a different format if I had time. I’m extremely aware of most every pain anybody could possibly have with AVI (remember my professional life revolves around multimedia, and one of my chief hobbies is providing videos), and have plenty of conversations on a regular basis about pain points of using AVI in the real world.
AVI sucks. I ask people not to use it for a reason.
*: As I’ve pointed out repeatedly repeatedly, a Get Rich Quick scheme by some tremendous asshats (cough cough you could probably fill in the ivx blank cough cough) totally fucked over the AVI world. Sorry. The “H264 in AVI” world is arguably better, YOU WOULD THINK, but then again everybody’s still using bullshit “beta” versions of codecs that are crashing all over the goddamned place. AVI fucking sucks, it’s an abomination currently, and it embarasses me to be associated with it.
Give me more time in my life and I’ll take care of it. Until then, I’ll give you what I got.
So, yes, encoding everything away from AVI is on my tremendous To Do list.
Man, i can feel the flames of hatred leaning towards AVI’s direction lol.
Hey preppy does dealing with your website and so many videos help out at work or is it more the work makes dealing with the videos easier?
I additionally find it annoying in that people blame MS/WMP for some pretty deliberate failings of other people. It is, as you will have noticed, nails on a chalkboard to me. I try to help people sort out the playback experience using any player, but goddamned is it fuxxored these days. And every single “Oh Just Get Player X That Is The Only Way To Play Clip Y” comment is ugly as sin and just reminds me of how much Certain People fucked the field for their own profit. :arazz:
There’s strangely enough not a lot of correlation, so it’s not of much benefit. I think there was a couple Movie Maker issues I helped get fixed back for XPSP2, but beyond that I think they’re different sides of the same coin. It probably makes my life much easier when I get confused, though.
Most of the work benefit from my hobbies comes from my hobby of volunteering to help people in various multimedia forums. I pretty regularly find MS or 3rd party bugs, help get KBs written, link up Windows Error Responses, and do random other stuff. That’s not really my job, but I’m in a position to make things better, so I do.
Well, when people ask me for help and they don’t know anything I just tell them to dl K-Lite codec pack or something and then they get the MPC with it and everything works for them (with a few additional codecs that may need to be dl).
My friends have trouble with WMP and most don’t use it. I guess I shouldn’t have used the term “trash” but it was a pain for me back then to manually search for clean codecs and handle bugs with WMP when dl-ing another pack/player just solved 99% of the problems for me.
I heard you work with WMP and stuff so I guess for you this must all be easy and I guess from your perspective my post seemed offense and I didn’t mean it to come off like that. I just meant that from my experience trying to get WMP to work was more effort than it’s worth.
I appreciate your work again and I thought leaving those josh/amir matches to convert over night wouldn’t waste time for you but if you’re busy I guess it’s understandable. I tried to help and failed apparently.
I knew Brazil were leechers since back from the old days of #gamecombos Fserving, and now that i notice that prod-infinitum IP, i wonder who here in Mexico is leeching Preppy’s site? Notice that Infinitum sucks so much i had to switch to the ‘other’ provider which isn’t that bad at all!
I shall track down that fellow mexican and burn his/her house or at least his DSL.
On another note, the tool i use for encoding is the almighty VirtualDub, the sad point of this is that it can’t export to WMV. However, it can export to AVI using the WMV9 and WMA9 codecs which have showed no problem whatsoever when replayed in WMP despite being avi’s. What i wanna ask you Preppz, is there’s a lot of difference from the files being avi or wmv, even if they use the same codec?
I could easily convert to wmv, but it will require an extra step hence more encoding time. For example, those NCR7 matches I reencoded, i’d like an opinion on those. Were they good/bad/mediocre?
Yes, K-Lite codec pack is put together by fucking tools and has caused several million crashes at a bare minimum estimate. It’s done huge damage to multimedia. Codec packs have done huge damage to multimedia. I had a great conversation once: me: “This codec pack will cause systems to crash randomly and has several known security holes. Please stop hosting it and just host clean non-broken codec packs.” them: “Well, we want people to visit our site so we make money from ads. So no.”
If you’re recommending that piece of horseshit and your friends then have “troubles with WMP”, you’re kind of causing the problem.
CCCP is the most reliable codec pack. K-Lite is getting better, in part because I’ve pretty publicly blasted them for the absolute fucking nightmares they’ve caused. Perspective: they’re pretty much the source of the #1 crashes for EACH AND EVERY MULTIMEDIA COMPONENT OF WINDOWS. (They stupidly registered old broken codecs that crash when queried - the same dumb stuff that MMSwitch does.)
You’ll understand that that’s pretty pathetic. You can make the point that they didn’t write this crap that they ship, they’re just helping people install crap. Kind of a lame point. They also dive headfirst into DLLHell with private directory pathing. It’s retarded.
For the record, I designed the first several codec download/autodownload schemes. It pains me to see people these days still being utterly braindead and stuck on Bad Design Issues I discarded on day 3 of my own efforts.
If I randomly got fired from Microsoft, I could probably come close to designing a perfect solution here in a month, if I ignored legalities/sanity/safety as these guys do. Legalities/sanity/safety kind of are the crippling factors in any meaningful discussion, though. :wasted: Maybe take a month to get the framework in place, then another month to write a stability checker of some sort, and a month to I don’t know visit Cancun. Beyond their absolute blithering incompetence, codec packs pain me because I can’t imagine how people can be that stupid and produce so little good (and so very much bad) given how much time they’ve had.
Um, click Web Help on the Error dialog (for the missing codec) and it’ll tell you what exact codec is missing and the most likely place to get a reliable copy. I helped add that support, you’re welcome.
What specific bugs in the player are you referring to? It sounds like you want the Tech Talk: Computer Support thread.
No worries, I get what you mean. Let me repeat: I don’t want to encode anything on my current machine. It’s kind of limping along as far as I’m concerned (fuck ATI), and I’m going to get tons better results from the new machine that’ll be here in the next week or so. I’m extremely familiar with batch encoding (I know pretty much everyone who wrote most of those tools), I just need time.
Yeah, I remember the whole stupid VDub/ASF story well.
It supports WMA9 in AVI… ? That’s interesting. Are you using DivX/KrystalStudios WMA Audio then? I’m not aware of a valid WMA9-AVI codec.
Most of the pain of AVI can be minimized if you put the astandard codecs used (and astandard has little meaning anymore with regards to AVI) in the file name - you’ll note I renamed the Josh/Amir videos to make that point: they now have (DIVX) in their filenames. =\
They were fine as far as I’m concerned. The degradation of quality going from lossy to lossy pains me, but – I kind of would like a viable and full solution, and that’s hard to do with AVI. =P
EDIT: Let’s stop talking about this. This isn’t Tech Talk.
I like videos! I’m looking forward to encoding videos! Lots of good stuff from Final Round coming once my new processor arrives!
