Yun Q&A: Ask simple questions here!

Only one question.

Seeing as I never played arcade edition, I’d like to get familiar with Yun. Is there any characters in SSF4(sans arcade) that have any likeness to his style? I’m aware rufus is one. I’m not sure who else is. So I can somewhat understand what tactics are useful.

Cammy…has a dive kick and all her combos ending with hk drill lead to the same kind of “vortex” as yun’s combos into his kick dp move. She doesn’t have a command grab tho. But i’d say she’s more similar to yun than rufus is.

No way, Rufus is way more similar.

Imo.

I would just keep playing who ever you’re using and go into Yun fresh. Coming from Rufus I had an easier time hit confirming off divekick, but at the same time his divekick properties are so different from Rufus’ that it’s probably better to wait it out. Hell I still mess up simple divekicks because I’ve been spoiled by having no height restriction with Rufus. Playing Yun in older games to practice his divekick would probably help better, also you’d get used to his command list and come into AE knowing the motions for all his moves.

I want to main Yun and learn him really well, only thing is going to the arcade is pretty expensive and I get my ass handed to me all the time and don’t really get to learn anything.

I’ve downloaded GGPO and an emulator that can play Third Strike offline, are there any other options for ways for me to learn to play Yun with actually playing him at home?

Also, do you guys think that if I learn Yun on Third Strike it can sort of cross over to AE? I understand that it’s not completely identical, but I’ve never played Yun before he came out on AE and I like his play style a lot, I just want to get it down, good idea or no?

Should be in the saikyo thread:

  1. set a daily budget/weekly budget/monthly budget
  2. play to win(you will auto learn the important things(punishment, spacing), since you are playing to win)
    3. find someone to mentor you at the arcade, play them over and over again

Well TS did help me learn some genin jin combos so I’m sure those are good. All I could advise is keep trying to play and find someone of your skill level to learn the ins and outs of Yun. He is fun to play but hard to learn.

how similar is he in AE to his 3S self

i heard yun was one of the easier characters in AE. BTW yun in 3rd strike is basically gei jin meter builidng and genei jin lol. u wont learn anything in 3rd strike if u wana play ae

Or you could play Rufus for a while and get used to doing dive kick/throw mixups.

The whole point with instant dive kick characters is to make your opponent press buttons, then get him scared to not press anymore so you can start throwing.

Is Yun considered a high learning curve type of character? I ask this because i only have a years worth of experience in SF.

I think he’ll be a lot like Vanilla Sagat. Highly effective when played properly, and not too difficult once you get the basics down, but he’s not an instant win button on the select screen. There are plenty of bad Yun’s in Japan right now.

Thanks for the reply, I cant wait to play with him because he looks like a very fun character to play.

I haven’t played Yun since 3rd Strike and since I dropped Cammy to my 2nd character, I decided to pick up Yun as my main. So far i’ve had his basics down against a dummy opponent, lol. I’m glad he’s not an instant win button but I also want to know what else can be done as far as keeping pressure. I know my meatys w/ Cammy as far as dive kick games.

Pretty much what I want to know is what are the best and most effective ways to keep anyone under pressure as far as knockdowns, effective ways to aim the dive kicks etc.

Just EX Lunge… you apparently get in for free unless the person Keno eyes you,

Constant EX-Lunges deprive you of Genei-Jin, and it can be stuffed if opponent throws random stuff, or he may neutral jump. Plus, building meter. Not everyone will let you throw 8 palms to build one meter.

Not everyone will let you get GJ.

Hey guys (First message on board)

I just downloaded AE and picked up Yun cause i really like his style and gameplay.
Im have to confess that im a total newbie, just started playing the game a couple of weeks ago.

  • Im trying to get into combos/links.
Is there a framefriendly link for yun?
It does not have to be the one with most damage of all the combos. Just a good combo for a beginner to learn hitconfirms into a special.
I checked the combo thread here, but they all seem kinda hard for a beginner. Was thinking something with c.lp or c.lk, seems the easiest to learn.

Been messing around with 2xc.lp xx c.lk -> dash punch. Think i got it once, but not really sure. Does it work?

  • What is a good easy combo to use for punishes?

If you guys could help me out with this it would help me alot.

cr.LK/cr.LP , st.LP xx st.LK xx st.MP xx Lunge
Probably the easiest combo to do since LP LK MP is a target combo and can be easily hit confirmed into Lunge for knockdown.

Dash punch? Are you playing Boxer all of a sudden?

I dunno why you can’t just use combos from here: http://www.shoryuken.com/forum/index.php?threads/everything-you-need-to-know-yun-reference-log.133357/
~3frame link combos are pretty damn easy unless you have absolutely no grasp of rhythm.

Thanks for your answer.

Ok, so the targetcombo is safe and good enough to use then i guess.
So i can use a c.lp/c.lk and link or chain that into the target combo? Sorry if im slow, but trying to learn all the basics.

Yeha, used balrog before this. Dash Punch…Lunge Punch, my bad.

Been thinking about these:
Staple Combos
Easy Hit Confirm that works vs. every character

  • c.lp, cst.lp, st.mp xx HK Upkicks
  • c.lp, cst.lp>lk>mp xx HK Upkicks_HP Lunge_EX Lunge

Probably gonna get hell for this, but what does “cst” in “cst.lp” stand for

Peace
