Yun Q&A: Ask simple questions here!

That’s when you start the dive kick pressure, my friend. Cross up, non cross up, grab, cmd grab - mix it up.

after lp lunge you cannot go for a crossup if they quick rise. It sets up nicely for a command grab / clst.mk mixup though. Mp lunge will allow you to crossup afterwards if they quick rise (can also make dp’s whiff etc.). Mk upkicks gives the best oki probably. You want to start xup/fakexup oki off of this.

For example if you knock ryu down with mk upkicks do a neutral jump and at the apex do mk dive kick. It makes his dp whiff and crosses up if they block. These setups are different for almost every character though.

Yeah its entirely character specific… some are the same setup as above but using HK dive kick instead, i think thats on some of the big bodied characters.
You really just need to go into training mode and test it on every character lol

That’s what I’m looking for. Does it work on Boxerrog too? Or Oni? Are there any other particularly good setups against troublesome characters? I’ll have to do a lot of training mode divekicking.

I’ve messed around on various characters with the mk or hk kicks, but in games I usually just use lp lunge instead of risk a memory lapse/ MK out of muscle memory.

@Snax‌

The setups are pretty basic. if you have seen them ok but this is basic “im playing e ryu for 1 days and it matters” tech

confirmed??

If they fixed the air target combo, it’s a pretty big buff on his own.
I learned to live with using the MK ender on the characters listed, so whatever really.

Where did you see this? I refuse to believe they would fix all of this, those are huge “buffs” alone lol

edit… just saw its all in the link… that also says his dive kick frames were reverted. I doubt any of this is true… more like what he wants for yun lol

It’s just a wish list he added onto his cheat sheet.

Where’s this from? What’s “x up dive” referring to?
Thanks.

And I know there’s a PC player thread, but does anyone here have the PC version? I’ve never played a good Yun before.

Gotta question guys. I just recently switched from xbox 360 game pad to a fightstick. Now that plinking is an option for me, I’ve been experimenting with yun’s bnbs. Bare with me, I only switched like a week ago.
So what I like to do is get in with a dk and do cr.lp>st.lp>st.mp xx mk upkicks on hit or lp shoulder on block… Do you guys plink the st.mp? The guide says we should plink with lk instead of lp since lk can cancel into upkicks in case you miss the link and lk comes out instead. But I’m questioning whether we should plink that mp at all… Here’s my reasoning:
-If I miss the mp link and lp/lk comes out instead, it’s because I plinked too early and the lp/lk chained from st.lp.
-st.lp xx st.lk xx upkicks can’t be a combo.

So now I’m thinking, “do ppl even plink this combo”? What’s the point? If you do it too soon, the benefit from plinking is diminished. Plinking seems to only help with cr.mp>cr.mp>st.mp xx.
Sorry if this is too simple of a question for some of you… but again, I just started playing with fightstick/plinking.
thanks.

I plink with jab, it’s pretty much engrained into my muscle memory anyway. Theres virtually no reason not to plink any of his MP/MK links.
I do occasionally miss the plink and i’ll get an annoying st.jab instead but it’s not very often

I always plink MP in combos the only time I’ve ever gotten jab by mistake is when linking st.LP int cr.MP

Right, its usually when i’m trying to do it too quickly lol

What I really wonder is how many times you get thrown after a bad divekick: Was it really a punish, or did you just think it was a safe divekick and so didn’t bother trying to tech?

When you divekick them right in the face and they block it, you’re gonna get scooped. If you hit them from the top of the head to the neck (standing), you will be -6,-4 on block. If I don’t hit the knees and down, I might get grabbed if I was trying to start a block string. What’s cool, though, is that some players will mash grab after every divekick lol. I don’t know why, but against that, your block string could turn into frame trap.

What’s the best punish for Honda’s Sumo dive attack? Only thing I could get from training just now was LK DP and Level 1 focus after blocking the first hit. This fucking Honda kept spamming and I couldn’t do anything. Needless to say I’m enraged.

What’s the best way to practice meaty dive kicks in training mode?

So with EX Lunge Punch back at +1 on block, what kind of mixes up can I go for?

Frame traps and command grab
