Yun Q&A: Ask simple questions here!

Sagat and Oni would complement well for his bad matches.

Do any Genei Jin combos use f.hp? Kind of a silly question, but just wondering. Looked cool in Third Strike.

yes

I tried one at the start of this vid,not finding it too useful though,st.HK looks better in pretty much every situation

f+hp yes you can do a disgusting reset with it… check it this past wednesdays wednesday night fights socal tournament. MMG Julio went and blew a ton of people up and he pulled off a sick reset with f+hp in genei jin. I’ve never seen it before. You can find the archive at leveluplive’s twitch page.

the towards fierce reset into ultra has been used since AE. Most people that have Yun experience know the reset and look for the towards fierce.

Can anyone explain dive kick timing? Do I dive kick while the opponent is getting up? I ask because after a few weeks in training mode I keep getting different results. Ill practice on the cpu and notice my cross up will hit. Then I try to record it while I hold back, Thats when I walk out of it. I also noticed I can delay quick rise and also walk out of it. I keep getting mixed results and I dont have a way to test my timing with another person.

I assume your talking about divekicks against opponents waking up? If you are, what are you going for? Yun’s divekicks against opponents on wakeup is dependent on what your going for and your opponents hitbox, wakeup timing, reversal speed/options. Also, what you ended a combo or hit confirm with and positioning on screen. Input delay on certain divekicks and specific heights can change if its front side meaty, crossup, or reversal safe. Only some of the cast do you have guaranteed options of more than 1 of those I listed at the same time.

Yea. On their wake up. Such as after mk upkicks and they quick rise. Same situation for HK upkicks. Need help with those. Also on no quick rising but I think I found that timing. When they begin animation to get up thats when I jump it seems? Also can you tell me about the guaranteed options on some of the cast? sorry im asking alot. Its just ive been searching for someone to ask these things to for awhile now.

I need some advice from yun players here. I keep messing up my dragon kicks into command grabs, i try very to do a very precise input but it keeps happening. Anyone knows how to prevent this?

You mean when you do upkicks, command grab comes out instead?
If so, I had that problem when I played with the pad (xbox controller)… some fightsticks do it too. Sometimes if the joystick is worn it will do that. Go into training mode and turn on the input display. Hold left or right on the stick and let go. The stick will spring back to neutral position like it’s supposed to do. If you do it kinda fast, the stick will spring pass neutral and into the other direction and the game will read it as left>right or right>left, etc.

If you do a dp motion and let go, your stick could tap back (6234+K) you will get a command grab.
Clean out your stick, or if it’s a pad, switch to a fightstick lol.

Talking about upkick and command grabs, when you mash out an uppercut in the aim of autocorrecting it ( think after headstomp from seth in the corner, left right mix up )
You have to go between 1 and 3 to get the uppercit without the risk of a command grab coming out, right ?

Thanks for the answers, i’m doing better now, since i wasnt doing 623 but just mashing 2 and 3. Now that i do 623 it comes out perfectly!

What would you do against a player that always mashes reversal after you divekick them?

go in training mode. Test your dive kicks and make sure you hit deep enough to cr jab with no gap in between.

Otherwise you need to recognize a bad dive kick and delay cr tech or delay jab tech to block it if i comes and apply pressure if it doesnt while teching throws.

The worst but easiest solution is to divekick and pause-throw/cr lk/jab but that leaves you free to throws/mashed jabs but it will blow up mindless mashers. Learning to delay cr tech/jab tech negative but nonpunishable dive kicks is very usefull as well as mashing hk upkicks on a read but improving your divekick spacing is the most important thing to do

If you hit divekicks too high on block it is a true punish remember that.

What are some good Genei Jin starters anyway? I’ve missed s.hk a few times, but the guide says s.hk though, so I assume that really is the best. What palm, though? Is there a difference between hard and medium palm during GJ?

If most of your GJs are confirmed through mp xx shoulder, s.hk is what you want since it launches them into a juggled state. I find visual cues make it easier to time s.hk after GJ.
Medium and hard palms do the same damage during GJ. It’s actually just 1 palm. meduim and hard are the same exact attack.

I thought I heard somewhere that mp palm is faster during GJ

you can also do mp xx light shoulder xx genei jin and link a medium shoulder, which is better damage/scale wise but also more strict and kind of awkward to follow up compared to st.hk

Was doing well the past 2 days, then today I regressed to neutral jumps, bad patterns, missed combos, and got nothing but Guiles, Blankas (not a bad matchup but annoying as hell), Boxers, a Gouken and a Dudley. Basically my worst matchups and two guys who destroy Yun in two combos.

What should I do after lp lunge and mk upkicks knockdowns? I really have no idea what to do with knockdowns as Yun
