I like julio but I just think kazunoko is on another level.
Btw, did you ever try out that dash after st.hk? During genei jin? I saw gamerbee do it, st.hk - dash xx upkicks but I have no idea how. I’m trying it here and it seems impossible. lol. I need to use the lunge.
For fireball characters like Ryu and Ken, nope. Too much push back on fireball and their focus attacks don’t have much range. The only time it will work is point blank, and you don’t want to do it that close when you’re -6. I think the only character that can hit confirm into red focus reliably from a fireball is Seth, and that’s because his focus has mad range.
Off the top of my head these are characters that can do it with a safe or safe’ish confirm and it would actually be worth for them to blow the meter.
Viper cr. MK/cr. MP into MP thunder knuckle
Evil Ryu cl. MP/cl. HP into MK axe kick
Oni far MP into LK slash
Abel: F+MK into cl. HP or just the 2nd hit of cl. HP
Other characters have unsafe options like Gief with EX green hand or Evil Ryu with cr. MK into LK axe kick, both being -8 and -7 I think. But still it’ll be scary to get hit by them since both have a 500+ damage Ultra they can land on you if they connect. Especially Gief since he is now a threat to land huge damage from so far away which was always an range where you felt kind of safe before. Most characters like Ryu will have to land it from a normal without much range, so it’s not something they can try to land in neutral like Yun can.
As for good Yun players, I wonder how Fentamu will adjust to the changes to HK up kicks. It’s like no matter who he plays his entire style revolved around “I going to do it, you better back off”. No matter who he played, he made it clear that you better not pressure him in just about any situation because he will DP and do it a lot. Funny thing is that this helped him win plenty of games because he would just wake up jab into command throw. I get the feeling he’s not going to change his play style much in Ultra, just have to add LK upkicks to his wake up options now.
Did you see that video posted on eventhubs? It shows quite a few cast members using EXRF into ultra. He makes note of the fact that he’s using a mod, so the damage and scaling will most like be a little different in the main game but it should be pretty accurate. Oni gets HUGE damage from EXRF into ultra 2. Some others that get massive damage are deejay and bison. A lot of the characters here get almost 500 damage. Whether that’s worth 3 bars and a full ultra is up to you but it definitely would be in a comeback situation. Red focus seems to be a great addition for charge characters too.
I’m curious to see how yuns game changes due to the loss of hk upkicks invincibility. It’s nothing major, but waking up with it has saved me quite a lot. I’m also going to really miss ex lunge into hk upkicks when they try and press a button so simple yet one of my favourite frame traps.
Well yeah that part’s easy, but I mean I can’t land the upkicks right after the dash. Gamerbee does st.mp xx shoulder xx genei jin, then he does st.hk xx dash upkicks.
And yeah I agree, I can do it like twice but then I always mess it up towards the end.
Not to toot my own horn(j/k, that’s exactly what I’m doing), but I made a similar video back in February. I even posted it here in the USF4 Yun thread. I only did it for 3 characters though because I didn’t want to spend the time to show how every character could use it so I selected 3 characters that I thought could put it to good use. The damage values are a little off though because KBT has level 1 EX red focus doing 80 damage when it does 90, so you should add 7 to all the totals
Not saying I was the first to hype it up, but I did it before that guy
Sorry man I hadn’t seen your video. Awesome work! Oni’s looking great with red focus, looks as good as yun with his slash hit confirm.
I’m not sure how accurate the damage is in any of the videos as they might change it for the final release, but genei jin + ultra seems to be a better alternative.
Red focus seems great for an ex palm combo, but for ultra combo i’d go with super for superior damage.
Sure, for max damage Super > Ultra > finish with Super is better damage. But for 3 bars, Yun is almost as dangerous. If you land far MP, shoulder, RFC in the corner and end it with shoulder into lunge that’s a total of 491 damage compared to 464 for doing it mid screen. You just have to look at your situation and decide which one is the best to use. Starting off rounds and trying to make a big come back would probably be the toughest choice. Do you want 430 damage into a reset or 421 damage with 700+ stun? For come backs, I feel like you have to lean towards the RFC combo because that means you’ll have nearly a fully loaded Ultra in stock so go for the massive stun and try to stun them so the follow up damage with Ultra will be very good.
What do you guys think about his apparent new divekick buff? Where the landing recovery is changed back to what it was in AE but all the other divekick nerfs remain the same?
I’m having a pretty salty argument with a guy on eventhubs about it. He’s convinced that yun will be scrubby and overpowered if they make that change and I think he’s pretty wrong.
I hope it stays but you never know with capcom. I think its really good. His offense improved and his wakeup is slightly worse. Good trade off since I hated being focus crumpled when divekicking. If you want to punish a divekick you should have to make a read like with rufus. I don’t think it will be scrubby and overpowered though. You have to space it well (below the knee etc.) but now it will just be easier to get a true blockstring.
It’s highly unlikely that they’ll change the hitstun. If they were going to do that they would have included it with the version at NMW/stunfest since they’re basically testing there. I hear it’s the last build before the release build so if the recovery change stays then I’m pretty certain that will be the last change for yun.
I’m excited too, red focus is nice and all but it was annoying seeing so many other characters getting really useful and interesting buffs when yun was getting nothing.
@TheKillerKiwi , just ignore the trolling. I heard from a buddy who spoke to combofiend yesterday at NWM, claiming the dive kick was not changed at all. I would really like to make it down to ECT this weekend to test it out for myself, but I got final exam…
Interesting. There’s been no official confirmation from anybody, and I’ve actually heard a few people say it wasn’t changed. Air said yun had no additional changes and I’m inclined to believe him but I’m not sure because he has posted some wrong info about ultra lately… although he has since corrected most of his wrong info and hasn’t said anymore about yun so maybe it really hasn’t been changed. Nothing about it on eventhubs either because I guess the info hasn’t come from any credible or reliable sources. Maybe somebody mistakenly assumed it was changed.
Some people were saying that there was possibly two separate builds at NMW and Stunfest but I really doubt that as that makes no sense at all.
I won’t be overly disappointed if it didn’t change, yuns divekick is still great for what it needs to accomplish. I just wish we could get some solid video evidence or something. Thanks for the info soul crusher, I appreciate it.
I just think its funny that something so minor as 2 less landing fames on a dive kick is something they really don’t want to do.
If that was literally the only change he got i would have been happy.
I lied, i still want his cl.mk to be a command normal. back+mk plz, kthx.
Oh well. Be happy yun is apparently the same, a few characters that had promising changes have had them reverted in the latest build so at least yun doesn’t have any more nerfs (fingers crossed). Guess we’ll just have to wait for USF4 2015 edition
Thinking of picking characters that compliment Yun. I’m either gonna go with Yang/Sagat or Yang/Oni. Which of the two combinations would be better to solidify my overall game? I picked Yang, so I could focus more on footsies.
