the only reason i play yun is because of genei jin. it’s what makes him interesting for me + i like the character design. that being said i use ex-shoulder a lot to finish rounds against fireball characters and ex kicks >ultra. I stopped using ex upkicks in combos now it’s a waste of meter tbh.
Do you guys think its worth it to make a Yun 2012 setup thread.
-Safe Jumps
-Unblockables
-Ambiguous setups
or maybe just a 2012 thread because this character went from one of the most booming characters on any thread to a character like balrog on the sfxt thread (if you never checked it out he has like a total of three threads and not too many replies.)
But regardless.
What are his optimized combos after focus attack or stun metered and meterless midscreen and corner.
What’s his kara throw and kara palm?
I’m still using ex palm lp shoulder hp lunge but I don’t know if there is anything better and in corner I go for resets any advice?
ex plam, lp shoulder, hp lunge is the most damage your going to get with meter.
Without it hp shoulder,mp lunge is the best you’re gonna get midscreen that I know of and in the corner meterless you can do palm into cl.mk, lunge punch, or skip the lunge and go for a divekick mixup.
I’m all for a 2012 Yun thread it’s hard to find the 2012 stuff when allot of the threads are just leftover from vanilla ae.
a thread wouldn’t be a bad idea to separate all the vanilla stuff left over. however, does yun actually have any unblockable setups? also, i think his safe jumps are known as they’re the same as AE (there’s a thread on the first page)
Not a Yun player, but im curious what Yun’s most common blockstrings are, and what the frame (dis)advantage is for each. Thanks for helping out.
Hitenryu posted them earlier;
cr lp, cr lk, cr lp, st lp (Leaves you at +3)
cr, lk, cr lk, cr lk, st lk (Leaves you at +2)
You could use TC 5 as well, it leaves you at -2. Mashing jab also works, end in a standing jab for the most frames.
what combos and blockstrings do you guys use on blanka starting from a cr jab or cr short? since stand jab whiffs when he crouches i’m not really sure what to use
We don’t have any Blanka mains where I’m from but I checked Kazunoko vs Riceata (Canada Cup 2012)
Kazunoko likes to use Cr. Lp, Cr. Lp, St. Lk xx Lp Lunge instead of the usual bnb. He can confirm standing after the jabs to change combo on the fly. He also uses Cr. Mp, Cr. Mk xx Lp Shoulder on Blanka’s wake up.
I’m having trouble linking the normals
cr:lp:, cr:lp:, st.:lk:, st.:mp:, :mk:upkicks
especially from the st.:lk: to st:mp:
shouldn’t it be st.lp not st.lk?
I’ll try that. Any notes on timing I should know?
I think it’s a really easy link feels like 2 or 3f maybe?
Is it possible to get a combo after a cross up lk dive kick ?
yes if it hits deep. works on some characters better than others

I never unserstood unblockables. Afte a crossup lk dive kick sometimes i can land the target combo.
I never understood WHY players are so obsessed with finding and using unblockables. It’s cheating, and doesn’t prove anything. All it does is showcase their inability to win with actual thinking so they take advantage of a FLAW in a system to gain competitive edge. Also, the more idiots obsessed with unblockables find ways to cheat, the more the rest of the community will cry out for a new patch to get rid of it.
If the next patch goes through with Ono, you can kiss your unblockables good bye.
Not that Yun had many.
You’re right it doesn’t prove anything, just levels the playing field. If people are gonna use it against you, why not use it back against them?
Everything in this game is legit.
Unblockables can’t be blocked as easily but there are ways to avoid them entirely. No one can accuse a person of cheating just because they choose to use this particular system flaw (Unblockables arent the first kind in SF history).
To top that off, they’re all character specific and usually require just frame execution.
edit: Wanted to clarify my meaning so there was no confusion.
IMO the only unblockables that are truly stupid are the ones that
- require just frame blocking
- work mid-screen (alternatively, present on a character with ridiculous corner push and pressure like Fei)
- can be option selected with something to cover some escape options
and not too many of those exist (yet?) so they aren’t really the huge problem they’re made out to be. The only other close to ridiculous ones are those similar to what Mago used on Ricky (which wouldn’t bother me if Fei didn’t push you into the corner and get another attempt at it for landing the unblockable) and ones that loop into unblockable set ups again. Fortunately neither of these are common either.
