That Fei unblockable Rufus could reversal snake strikes to punish the unblockable attempt, Ricky didn’t bother to quick rise or try to reversal.
Hey guys i am looking to pickup Yun as my secondary to Sakura and would just like to know a few things to get me started.
What are Yun’s best go to hitconfirm bnb’s, punish bnb’s & what are the best genei jin combos you guys use in midscreen & corner?
Cheers.
There are threads for each of them
I had a quick look before posting this and it all looks outdated with mostly Vanilla AE stuff.
Edit: Im sure most of his hitconfirms & punish bnb’s are still the same in ver.2012 correct? but surely the genei jin stuff has changed?
Yun’s bnbs are still the same, he received a damage nerf to a few moves. Genei Jin timer was reduced by 1 second. EX Lunge doesn’t combo into U1 any more (reliably)
My Genei Jin combo in the corner is:
[]St. HK, overhead, palm, overhead, palm, lunge, palm, lunge, (shoulder, sweep for knockdown. St. MK jc dive kick for reset)
Mid screen:
[]St. HK, dash, Cr. HP, overhead, overhead, overhead, St. MP, overhead, lunge, (sweep for knockdown. St. MK jc dive kick for reset)
The good thing about Genei Jin is that they all do roughly the same damage and decent extra damage when you incorporate U1. Do what you’re comfortable with first off and then practise some standard GJ combos.
Why when i try to do ex upkicks > ultra 1 in the corner, sometimes I miss and they just slide down my back? Why does this happen and how can I prevent it?
Hey, was using Yun in AE and took a break but I would like to start using him again in 2012. So here’s a couple questions.
-Genei Jin received nerfs, is it still even useful or do I just use up meter?
-If it is still useful whats the universal corner and midscreen GJ combo’s I should be doing?
-I also use Balrog, I am thinking of using him to counterpick Gief and T.Hawk. Does Yun have any match-ups that require a pocket character?
-Opponents stunned, I do LV3 FA, I always have just done MP Shoulder into MP lunge. Has this changed at all? Anything more optimal?
-I’ve always really avoided OS’ in this game, but does Yun have any option selects that I MUST use to be viable with him?
-Any ways to go into U1 midscreen?
-Any matchups where its better to use U2?
Thanks in advance.
- Genei Jin is still very good and Yun still builds meter like nobody’s business. So you can pretty much do what you want outside of a few match ups (generally where footsies are really important)
- The old ones still work, they’re just shorter. Some new optimal ones involve multiple Upkicks but I honestly can’t remember what the exact loop was…
- While Yun doesn’t have any straight up 7-3s, it’s real nice to have a pocket if you run into Sagat, Zangief, Hawk, Blanka, Boxer, or Hakan (Sagat especially though.)
- After FA3, some characters get hit by cst.MK, LP Shoulder, HP Lunge. Some MP Shoulder, HP Lunge. A few have really spacing specific Palm combos.
- Yeah, if you wanna win in this game with offense oriented characters, you have to OS. The most frequently used one is probably Lunge Punch, which you should do frequently on whatever you can manage (most people settle for chain OS but you can technically do it off of almost anything.)
- Some characters can be hit by EX Lunge, U1 still without ridiculous spacing or being really far away. I think it was posted somewhere these past three pages. Most can get hit by cst.MK, U1. Otherwise not without Genei Jin or counter hit set ups. Well and really obvious meaty set ups that probably won’t ever work. But EX Upkicks, U1 works significantly farther away from the corner now (or rather it’s a lot easier.) Also LK Upkicks will go into U1 if you hit with the juggle portion. Some characters can be forced into this off command grab or specific strings (ie Viper cr.MP, cr.MP, fst.MP xx LK Upkicks) I think you can do MP shoulder FADC as well (not too useful though.)
- Well, Sagat, kind of. I don’t see Kazunoko bothering with it.
Thanks so much!
Been applying all day and Yun still feels like a strong character, just need to put more work in since the damage isn’t as scary. That OS you mentioned is also pretty simple and insaaanely effective haha.
Thanks again man.
- Stunning off a jab or a throw, I usually go for EX palm>shoulder>hp lunge combo. If scaling is really high cl.mk dive kick reset is a good choice.
- You might think about using U2 for akuma, I’ve seen people like Ryan Hart (RIP) use it.
Is Yun vs Guile/Honda really 6-4? If so, why? Is it the holding down back? (Sonic Boom/cr.hp & headbutt).
I’m looking to have a pocket Yun to deal with Bison’s annoying and bad matchups. So Guile, Gief, DeeJay, Chun, Vega, (Cammy and Viper?). Yun is a bad matchup too but he’s hardly used at tournaments so I’m not that fearful. I’m trying to restrain from using Cammy. I’ve been using Akuma, but I don’t think pocket Akuma exists. Needs a lot of time into him.
I guess it’s a bit of a stretch to really say they’re 6-4 for Yun but I never really got why people thought they were 4-6 for him.
Guile falls apart if you can get in, and he is not able to keep Yun out flawlessly since his shit isn’t active for days like a DP is and requires charge. Most people get hung up on the fact that they can’t dive kick in because they don’t try to mix up their dive kicks. I’m not talking about switching up between LK and HK, but rather doing early and late dive kicks. Yun’s dive kick is active until he hits the ground and he has a ton of time to choose when to do it. Compare that to Guile’s cr.HP, which is active for … well, four. Add in j.LP, j.MK, and j.HP with LK/MK/HK Dive kicks that have varied timing. Not impossible to keep Yun out, but challenging enough to be a 5-5 when Yun can turn any anticipated Boom into a knockdown off EX Shoulder.
Honda doesn’t handle Yun’s mix ups too well either, but unlike Guile, he is still a threat when you get in. Command grab and jab hands are something to be scared of. His footsies are arguably better but not so much that he will just walk all over you for trying to play them (compared to say, Boxer.) It’s annoying but it doesn’t feel like Honda just wins it (might be 5.5 for him though.)
Yun mirrors are kinda weird but waaaay more manageable than playing Dictator/Yun.
It’s all in the timing if your opponent falls in front of you you’re doing the ultra to late if they fall behind you you’re doing it to early.
Hey guys, new Yun player here and I was wonder what his general frame traps are.
I’m a rather new Yun myself. A good couple of super basic tricks are:
- After LP shoulder on block / hit, you can counter a lot of poke/jump attempts with st.HK.
- MP & EX shoulder ducks under most fireballs/tatsu’s and hits outstretched hadouken hands. Timed properly of course. In the corner you can follow MP shoulder up with Lunge Punch and Ultra.
- Mixing up dive-kick pressure with neutral jumps to catch people trying to crouch block (not a frame trap, but nice all the same)
- Use meaty HP shoulder on their wake-up to catch back-dashers / trade with certain reversals.
Kaiser’s Yun played a flawless set against 5 players in Canada Cup earlier this year, but I can only find one of his games on Youtube. It’s a double perfect nonetheless. Still, you can pick up some good tricks from this vid:

At the end of round 1, Kaiser resets WG with LP after the close MK, followed with a whiffed LP shoulder. The reason this worked on WG was because earlier in the set Kaiser did the same reset to two of WG’s team mates using MP shoulder to hit meaty on the same side, and HP to hit meaty on the opposite side of his opponent. It’s a pretty sweet set-up if you can read your opponent.
Im sorry guys, I dont know where to put this but I’m looking for some good Yun players to spar with. This character is just the bane of my existence seems like. Anyone interested? Preferably XBL. I play Gouken and if it helps I’m #16 on PSN. I just got a 360 for the better competition and am currently #39 working my way back up. I’m just looking for some Yun players to spar with so I can learn to deal with this character better.
Edit: I’m on EST, Northern VA
@dek09, I feel Gouken have very limited option in this match. You gotta commit to a random play style to win.
I currently don’t have an active xbox account, so I can’t help you grind the match out.
My Yun is no where near remybleu’s, but I could try playing you. No idea how my net will handle the connection, so cautiously optimistic…
Oh you’re absolutely right. Gouken just flat out gets mauled by Yun and thats my problem. The pressure is fine, it just seems like everything Yun does is safe. Trust me man, anything will help. I lose to ALMOST every Yun, no matter the skill level lol. So any sparring with any of you guys is much appreciated. Can I get some GT’s for those who would like to play?
You know, I might be able to play on specific weekends. I’m actually pretty close to you (Southern MD here), so the connection wouldn’t be too terrible.
My Yun is booty, but I play Gouken as well so I might be of some help lol.
