Yun Q&A: Ask simple questions here!

C.LK goes under it and C.MP just plain beats it. I also use C.LK to go under burnkicks from Viper too.

Need a little bit of help with the crossup dive kick after hk upkicks. Whats the timing on this or the angle? Sometimes it works for me but most of the the time I cant combo when I land and worse still sometimes I get thrown after it.

um i find you need to wait a bit then jump and dive kick but that could just be me cuz i’ve been having trouble hitting it consistently

I have a few questions about some of the main combos posted here in the sticky section.

  1. Assuming someone isnt going for the more damging c.mp/c.mp/s.mp combos, is there really any reason to use something such as c.jab, c.jab, s.jab, s.strong when you could simple c.jab, tc(jab, short, strong) and hk upkicks everyone? Why use something that does less damge and doesnt work on everyone when we have something easier such as a silly target combo into special? Is this because people do not want to be see using a TC? I see no point in the other common bnb combo. Why use c.jab,s.jab,s.strong either is all this does is allow things such as hk upkicks to work on more of the cast when the TC always works? I am sure there is a reason but I am not seeing it.

  2. Why use lunge over upkicks for finishing combos? Upkicks give more meter as far as I am aware and the position they put you in is fairly similar to lunge. Ive heard some mention that lunge pushes your opponent further into the corner, but the difference is minimal at best. (1 square in trainning room)

  3. Gj combos, are the combos posted in the stickys up to date? I see alot of people using hop kick inplace of lunges. Why is this?

well to answer number three its because hop kick does 85 damage in GJ and less scaling i would imagine because lunge hits so many times

  1. I do that combo mostly because of muscle memory. I honestly don’t use that TC that much, but I should definitely use it more often. Does that TC into Upkicks really work on everyone? Even when they are crouching? Wouldn’t it be a bit harder to hitconfirm though?

  2. I only use Lunge when I am not sure if the Upkicks will work

  3. I’m still trying to figure out the best midscreen and corner GJ combos myself. Can’t help you there. :stuck_out_tongue:

Well, I just did some testing with the target combo. It does hit even crouching people(ending with upkicks), but hit confirming is a lot harder. It isn’t super hard, but still.

making your up kicks not whiff depends on the up kick you use and whether your opponent is crouching or standing during the hit confirm.

Rule of thumb:
Opponent is standing while hit --> MK Dragon Kick
Opponent is crouching while hit --> HK Dragon Kick

It doesn’t matter how many times Lunge hits. Please learn how scaling works: http://www.eventhubs.com/guides/2009/may/09/how-combo-and-damage-scaling-works-street-fighter-iv/

. When your TC is getting blocked over and over you are basically resetting the situation and out of range for most of your better options like getting counterhits and command throws shit like that. Confirming off of jabs is better because most people only need two jabs to know to finish the combo and on block you are still point blank in there face for his shenanigans and eating sf4’s to the face. I assume this is why people don’t use jab short strong.

nonetheless hop kick is better to use whenit will hit as it does 85 dmg while lunge punches do 60.useful information on scaling though i didnt know that.

So im a pretty Decent Rufus player that is thinking about messing around with yun, Can I play Yun just like Rufus?

No. Yang is similar to Bison, but you still gotta learn the ins and outs of the character. You’ll have to get used to having LK upkicks as an antiair and using your command throw.

I made the transition from Rufus to Yun. If you have any specific questions that you don’t get answered here, feel free to drop me a PM.

I have not got to sit down and play AE yet.
although from the tourny feeds I have seen Yun is way to OP.
bad SF3 flashbacks. Being a T-Hawk player though I look forward to stomping his face in the ground

Lol

Why isn’t there a challenge mode for the new characters? Instead of knowing what I need to know under 10 minutes I have to wait for a bunch of morons to make a bunch worthless combo videos with only few being truly practical or waste a large amount of time messing around doing practically nothing but input practice.

Also does Yun have a cross up?

played around with yun in pmode - he doesn’t have any crossup attack except divekicks on wakeup?
are there specific setups to hit the divekick as a crossup or is this character-/hitbox specific?

Hi, beginner yun here also an Akuma main.
A bunch of questions.

[LIST=1]
[]What is the most common bnb i should use off a dk? right now im using c.lk c.lp st.lp st.mp into upkicks or shoulder/tc for GJ. Other times ill use the strong combo of cr.mpx2 st.mp into whatever.
[
]Are divekicks yuns only offense? What are some of his frame traps or common ways to pressure. If theres a thread/video on that it would be great.
[]whats the difference between his lp/mp/hp/ex command grabs?
[
]which matchups should you use u1/u2 on?
[*]I’m having trouble with some midscreen GJ combos. Which ones are the best/most effective? The only corner one i know is basically the lunge into palm x2 rinse and repeat.

thanks!
P.S. what does okizeme mean?

Okizeme = wakeup game. Didn’t you say you mained Akuma? Akuma’s primary strength is his vortex, which is his main okizeme game, or setup on opponent’s wakeup.

Yeah i know its his wakeup game lol but i never heard the term okizeme. I was always familiar with vortex.
