How do you do Command Grab, St.mp xx Ex Lunge? I cant never get the close standing version of the st.mp to come out. Thanks!
Arturo Sanchez is responsible for educating a whole mess of people just by the way he speaks. Shoutouts to Sabin.
cr.mp, s.mp xx special.
One more thing. Regarding s.mp ex lunge, how come i cant combo into that? like when i do cr.mp sp.mp ex lunge, the lunge always gets blocked. but when i just do s.mp ex lunge it works. I cant even just do s.mp ex lunge off a command grab.
Edit: Ok i cant get it on Hakan but i can get it on sim. Is it character specific?
You can actually just do the command grab and a standing strong by itself into the EX lunge. However, after learning about target combo 5 (for whatever reason, I had no idea it even existed until yesterday and have been using all link combos…), it opens up a lot more opportunities to use the EX lunge–and then Ultra. Doing target combo 5 after the command grab is the easiest way to get the EX lunge if you’re trying to burn meter, especially for the Ultra. Otherwise you should be plinking three strongs, or at the very least two.
As far as I know, you cannot do more than one strong (and it has to be standing) in a combo and land an EX lunge. The only basic EX lunge combos that I know of that work are:
- Jump in attack, s.strong, EX lunge [Jab lunge/U1]
- c.short, TC5, EX lunge–dives can work, but it seems character specific [Jab lunge/U1]
- Command grab, s. strong, EX lunge [Jab lunge/U1]
- Command grab, TC5, EX lunge [Jab lunge/U1]
I would not bother with trying to do the 3rd combo online due to latency issues. Go for the 4th. The timing on it is very strict, which is why it’s hard enough to do offline.
Is the cr.mp s.mp ex lunge character specific? even the command grab s.mp ex lunge?
Cause for some odd reason i cant get it on hakan but i can get it easily on sim.
cr.mp, s.mp xx special is the strongest follow-up after a command grab (except those characters that you can hit cr.mp, cr.mp, s.mp xx special; character specific, refer to the reference log thread). It’s also better to use than s.lp, s.lk, s.mp xx special because using cr.mp, s.mp xx hk upkicks builds up 3/4th of a bar (so, you’re basically building back up the bar you just spent on EX command grab).
I mean, if you want to use ex lunge, you’re stuck using s.lp, s.lk, s.mp xx EX lunge, but you probably are better off using hk upkicks for most purposes.
The only time I would ever consider doing any of the EX lunge combos over roundhouse upkicks would be for ultra use–if you’re playing a successful offensive game, you should not have a chance to use it all that much. More often than not you should only be using naked EX lunges for punishes outside of footsie range.
Also, the TC5 has it’s uses, and is easier (as well as faster) to land in specific situations than the double or triple strong combos. Namely hit confirms after dive kicks. Sure, you can usually do the strong combos if your dive hit anyway, but if it was blocked then you better be following it up with a delayed crouch tech short, crouch tech strong or simply c. short, c. jab if you’re not in a position to get thrown right away. As was previously mentioned though, online is a factor, and Yun doesn’t seem to play nicely with any kind of latency issues at all, so pick your “go to” combo depending on the environment.
I can’t seem to find the chart, but command grab , cl.st.MP is definitely character specific. If anything, try walking up a few frames before doing st.MP. Maybe you can walk forward just enough to make it cl.st.MP.
The cst.mp into EX lunge after a command grab is usually done in the corner. What I mean is that you put your opponent in the corner, and when you command grab him, you put yourself in the corner, but the spacing results in such a way that you are able to land a cst.mp during the window of frame advantage. Thus, you can follow up with EX lunge.
Hi guys. I’m having trouble with some midscreen GJ combos and i want to know how to make it a bit easier.
So when i activate ill start of with s.hk into mp lunge into overhead into hp lunge into palm to get them to the corner.
Basically the problem is many times after a lunge in the middle of GJ the opponent crosses me up it seems. Like for example if i input down forward, it counts as down back. I dont know how to describe it but when they are floating in the air way above me its like my inputs will get all fucked up. If i input a palm, it does a lunge instead.
It’s probably cuz of the HP Lunge. Try LP or MP Lunge instead.
Does anyone know how to get J.MK to cross up reliably? I did it on a Balrog about 3 times today, but it felt sort of random. I had to hit REALLY deep for it to work. Does it only work on some people and not others? I guess It’d probably work on anyone you can land C.MPX3 on, right?
are there any uses for ultra 2 outside of punishing fireballs and using it in genai jin?
ok picture this scenario. you do a dive kick, it’s blocked. so you then do a crouching jab, then command grab. your opponent is o.s teching, or timing his jabs so they stuff your attempts at a command/normal throw.
is there a frame trap that totally blows this kinda shit up if you know your opp is doing it? like if i’m using guile and i’m playing bison, i know that upside down kick totally blows him up if he’s mashing os tech.
u2 doesnt only punish fireballs, you can punish stuff where u1 wont reach, like blanka ball, cannon spike etc…
as for frame traps… maybe its time to learn how to read/apply frame data?
that’s why i was asking…i was pretty sure it would be able to punish stuff other than fireballs. i was just wondering if someone who knew more than me could give me a quick list of uses off the top of his/her head. kinda like you did.
i was going to learn frame data…and actually i’m pretty sure i could figure it out quickly. but i’m not a big fan of it because i play all my matches online…i was just wondering if someone had a technique to deal with that specific scenario, which i’m sure someone does have. but it will probably get lost in the shuffle now.
I’m pretty sure you can just walk forward or forward dash and then U1 to punish Cammy’s CSpike. The pushback has been nerfed quite a bit since super.
i find myself struggling to get ex palm to hit after command grab, st.mp…but the weird thing is i can do it from his st.lp, st.lk, st.mp target combo with no problems.
does the target combo do more hit stun or something? any tips on how to land the original combo i mentioned with more success?
since when you can combo into ex palm? though if i have to guess you proly meant ex lunge…
