i can’t say off the stuff i get online but i do well against kraken and have done well against a few others(jayce etc). what about the match up were they saying is difficult? usually i just play it really slow and lame.
Yeah from playing both the characters exclusively, having Hurricane237 in my weekly and as a good friend, it’s pretty rough for Yun in this edition, definitely winnable. Imagine Cammy which was already hard as is and:-
high damage (1 BnB is around 424 and half stun)
great normals
very very specific combos in every situation (Cmd throw cr MP cr MK xx MP lunge, glitchy ass hitbox so too many taps into ex up kicks doesn’t work/rarely works)
anti air UC2
easily reactable stinger to neutral jumps, shoulder strings
jump back spiral in air beats every aerial attempt coming in and floor at the same time
ex break being one of the greatest oki moves of all time
Imagine facing Dudley? But faster, as mobile as you are, deadly with both ultras and female
One of the more solid counters to an obvious play style of Yun IMO
Does anyone have some good Elena experience? I noticed some iffy stuff that fucked me in this matchup. I seem to be unable to hit a crossup divekick on her after lunge/upkicks.
However I did notice that j.mk crossup works well on her in neutral (doesn’t seem to hit on wakeup).
Ok done test yun is can now hit Rose (standing or crouching) with red focus…but you have to use Cr.mk>light shoulder.St.mp will give too much push back??? for light shoulder>red focus.I see why there was confusing spread the word!!! lol.
Anyone have tips/advice vs Dudley,Ken,Gouken and a really good Chun-li?I can barely whiff punish step kick(my fault) and the others I get kinda too risky against them.I want to know if there are and other angles I should be looking at/taking advantage of in these match-ups.
I just spent my morning going through this whilst drinking my tea…
Really? The layout i’m guessing is left side 6-4 and right side 4-6…
Well
Makoto, Cammy, Ibuki, Sagat, Fuerte, Honda, Bison, Fei, Guile, Gief, Akuma Vega, Rose all need heavy revisions IMO
If/when I meet you in person hopefully go into detail on a few others.
I’ll give 3 points for each, hope my 2 cents is worth.
Vs Dudley (Trololol I Need 2 Hits To Win, Focus Backdash, Nothing, Mash Jabs The Lot)
patience, on wakeup he sucks, no meter dudley is dead
play the game around st MK range, base your options around that (he only has random LP MGB or duck straight, everything else whiffs, so backdash, st MK, cr MK xx lunge, dives)
quick jump forward HK dives are unreactable +beat his buttons
Vs Gouken (Plays Off Of Impatience And Not Being Clinical)
…derp him on wakeup
no need for x-up dives, jump forward LK dives as his crouch tech sucks
you can block 10 fireballs because one knockdown is the game
Ken (Reserving And Building Bar, NOTHING INTO SHOULDER EVER Unless TC5)
practice buffering mp shoulder in footsies, who cares about getting hit by a baby step kick
cr MK xx MP lunge when you’re in open play/st LK xx LP lunge practice in open play (for step kick)
get your air to air neutral j HP ready when he jumps midscreen, they love that ex tatsu
Chun (Ms. Focus Backdash Myself To Death, Let Her Do It)
one way is to build meter full screen with palms
in corner only use cr LK x2 or cr LK st LP (everything else whiffs so she’ll mash through your strings)
5 hit strings (i.e. cr LK st LP cr LK st LK) her cr HK whiffs if she tries to throw it out so you can st LK xx ex shoulder RFA or st HK/HK dive (make loads of situations like this)
Thank you so much for the info R_M_Z I been trying so hard to main(Yun) over my old main(Guy).Playing Yun is not as easy as Rufus or difficult like playing Guy, which is very good for me.I didn’t hit a wall yet with Yun so I feel some improvements can still be made. Dudley’s whole I Need 2 Hits To Win is so BS.
I was doing the list vertically, tiering the characters in relation to how they played against Yun, so the top characters are difficult for him and bottom ones free. Now I’ve spent a lot more time playing the game, watched a lot more matches, and spoken with a few top players, I’ll probably need to throw out this entire list and start from scratch.
Hey Guys. I am picking up Yun to cover some bad matchups for Hawk. Especially Dhalsim, Blanka, Gouken, Juri, etc…What are some tips for someone relatively new to the character but what to do well against these opponents? ESPECIALLY SIM!!!
You have to be patient to get that first hit. You can’t just dive in for free without conditioning them to AA with the wrong buttons (back RH, stand forward)
Make them second guess their AA’s by doing 3/4 screen empty neutral jumps and lk dives to get into around 1/2 screen distance. From here, most Dhalsims will be looking to push you out with stand short and stand fierce. Use the neutral to observe patterns and play safe with walk forward block, full screen palm to build meter etc. etc.
Once you have that first bar, you’re going to be a lot more scary. Dhalsim needs to be cognizant of the threat of EX lunge punch as well as watching the skies for random min height HK dive kick. From here you can generally bait an AA with lk dive kicks and then lunge your way in, jump forward, delay dive kick to make back RH whiff, etc. Yun has good options for changing his air trajectory as well as stalling in the air before coming down, so use that to your advantage.
Once you’re in, go nuts. Dhalsim doesn’t really have any good escape options (like… at all.) - meaty jab OS lunge takes care of back dash, or you can choose to do meaty low strong and scout the teleport. Pretty simple to do on reaction. Maximise your damage and you’re golden. Remember that Dhalsim has that wide body hitbox which lets you get 3 low strongs into stand strong xx MK upkicks.
TL;DR: Scout patterns, test their AA by mixing up your dive kick timings and angles, get in once, end it all.
Most has been replied to or said well enough so you’re in good hands…
Yun x Blanka is an awkward match if I am being perfectly honest and will take some grinding out till you are used to it (majority here have played Yun since ver.2012), so best to focus on basics of Yun first.
