Yun Match-up Thread

yooooooooooooooooo im so gnna try that, TY SIRR!!! gonna test to see how it works against all her options tmmrw, i’ll try to see how much it wins in other situations as well

Hey can you elaborate on why his dead? Do you have any good setups against Fei?

does anyone know a good secondary character for yun. one that covers all his bad matchups?

@Tarek‌ I’m gonna assume its because how easy it is to confirm into shoulder for the red focus crumple.

Fei is a super footsie heavy match, he’s well equipped to keep yun out and also to put the pressure on him.

As for any setups you can just always end your combos with Mk upkicks and neutral normal him since its an auto safe jump. I know there used to be an unblockable on him but its a manual timing dive kick, it should be in the safe jump thread somewhere.

Thanks for the info!

Tarek the 1st thing that you need to know is that whenever you go up against a decent feilong, is that he will force you into a footsie game with him. Some of fei better pokes are cr mp, cr hp. What does that tell you? It means you need to be able to punish his whiff normal as he will be trying to outpoke you with them. Due to yun recent buff and the addition of rfdc, you now have more tools to deal with fei. Any mp into shoulder will be able to rfdc if you have 3 bars which will easily combo into 300-400+ damage, or you can reset him into another setup. When you reset him please do take note that most of yun reset are unsafe which means you need to look into your opponent tendency and his potential to mash shoryu. Once he got caught by your rfdc, you will have a decent life lead provided you don’t do anything stupid( note that if you have lesser life than fei, being caught by rfdc is often a tide changer so the suitation can work in both ways)

Regarding to setup, 1 of the setup I use on fei is when I end with mk upkick combo I will do a neutral jump mk dk. I have a certain degree of success of it and I believe it is a 4f safe jump(please correct me if i’m wrong). Ultimately with yun, what I do is I will judge what my opponent is going to do and react from there as I believe yun has enough tools to deal with most of his matchup.

Any tips against Honda? Had trouble against a 4K Honda today - butt splash reversal against any pressure and because it’s a reversal I can’t focus it. Can you OS a cl.mk against that somehow?

And that standing HK! Ugh. Also, weird hitbox for weird dive x-up. I don’t know what the game plan is against a good Honda - tips appreciated.

Hey guys, I’ve drawn up a very rough tier list and I’d love for some folks more experienced than me to tear it apart.

Just a little tidbit that helped me out recently with Yun in regards to counter poking and whiff punishing.

It’s very hard to do st.lk buffered into Lunge and not get the lunge to come out if you try it. For instance, if a Fei player rekka’d me unsafely, and I missed the timing on my st.lk, the lunge would still come out because I had it buffered. Meaning they’d block and I’d get full punished.

However, if you hit st.lk, qcf, and then HOLD lp, the lunge will never come out UNLESS the st.lk hits an opponent. Same way c.mk to hadoken works with shotos.

Makes it useful for things like counter poking Rog and Chun safely since st.lk has pretty good range.

This might be known, but it was news to me (after playing sf4 since release and Yun since early third strike days…:<)

Yes, it is generally known. Still have to be carefull though as you can negative edge it when even after holding it and you release it too fast, it’ll still come out.
With Cody i often do cr.lp xx mk ruffian and even after holding it and releasing it late it still comes out, incredibly annoying. So i just input it really fast, same with st.lk, also feels more natural to me.

A noob yun ask how to get over fireballs and land an attack with divekick like kazunoko .I told him to go here(http://forums.shoryuken.com/) for info but they didn’t find anything related to the subject.I advice every person who wants to really play yun to do training/drills on your reactions to fireballs.Sounds easy right?(its not) I will break them down in tiers/classes 1-3(highest to lowest of difficultly).

Class1(fast start-up+low recovery)Guile,Poison,Shotos (ex)red fireball.
**Drills:**Hit Up-direction during fireball start-up at 1-1.2 square away distance use jump mk,HK or MK divekick.NOTES](Guile)-best to test the water your dive will hit before he can hit a normal but he can still jump-air grab you(Counter)neutral jump HP will stop this option of his.(Poison) huge hit box on fireballs, which can juggle you(Counter)just wait til its pass yun before you hit divekick mk version easier to perform.

Class2(not so fast start-up+biggest punishes against bad divekicks)Shotos like ryu,ken ect.,Sagat.
Drills:Hit Up-direction during fireball start-up at 1-1.4 square away jump mk,HK or MK divekick.(Sagat) so many tools to keep you out(Counter) get in range to react low fireball’s start up n duck or shoulder pass high tiger shoot.

Class3(long startup+bad recovery+good anti-air normals)Chun-li and Rose
**Drills:**Hit Up-direction or up-forward during fireball start-up at 1-1.8 square away distance use jump mk,HK or MK divekick.(Chun-li) her sweep can beat dive kicks that land in the front good pokes(Counter)They don’t chip so block n pick your ideal spot to attack(Rose)her back dash is godlike tho (Counter)Learn to option select her apply this to chun, elena and poison as well.

**NOTES:**Takes you 5-10 mins to practice this weekly.Sorry if the distance is wrong, if its to far or short plz let me know I will adjust the numbers.

For lunge punch buffer I always use QCF - LK - LP just slower than plink speed. Any faster and you risk getting a throw.

How does Yun do against El Fuerte? I really need a character that does well against ELF.

I’m not really sure on specifics, but I know El Fuerte players hate that match

idk i would watch kazunoko vs pepeday(master series) on that one. to of the best going at it? how often are you going to see it anyways?

Yun fights him well.

  • Great punishes on Q Bomb:- UC2, MP/HP lunge, St MP
  • splash blocked punished:- UC2, cr MK xx MP lunge, St MP
  • Meaty safe cr MP to ex Q bomb
  • Command throw beating ex run
  • Old but Palm on his wake up (ex q bomb changes this though)

A practiced Yun, Yang or Fei fight against him really well especially when you know how to fight the little git

Will keep this in mind as c.lp OS lunge doesn’t work on the ex run

Watched Kazunoko use F+hp in the corner to discourage cornered njumps. Combos into ultra on hit or trade or lunge for no meter.

Does anybody have insight on the Decapre matchup? I know @R_M_Z and F-word think it’s really bad going by their commentary at Sonic Boom…
