Yun Match-up Thread

Usually aa’ing the elbow with crouching mp, as far as run stop not so sure myself.

e.ryu you have to bait out cr.mk’s from. Make sure the player knows that your looking for them for free divekicks. Matchup is pretty tough but I think its even. Simple mistakes lead into big damage on e.ryu’s part and he has a lot of lockdown capability with his divekick safejump. The buff to his hopkick blows up your cr.mk as a poke, but the go to poke in general is st.strong so kind of moot. His biggest benefit compared to the other shoto’s is how amazing his focus attack is. It has a large enough hitbox on activation that he can clock you out of the sky into a free uppercut. Don’t get caught up in his optimal spacing of cr.mk and focus attack in this matchup. Outside of that he doesn’t really have anything “special” in comparison to Ryu. Its easier to bait his dp’s because you can be closer (his dp hitbox is a bit shallower than ryu’s) I don’t feel you need to OS his teleport because you can react to it. Remember to blow up his attempts to cancel his far range pokes into axe kicks. They are not tight, but I rarely see people punish e.ryu’s for going for them. His fireballs are not great and pretty easy to react to.

anyone have some tips against the new condor spire of T Hawk ?

What is the alternative of doing cr.lk/lp, cl.lp chain, because it whiffs on a crouching Elena…always, tried it in ranked like 5 times and they all missed and his cr.lk got through.
I can use cr.mp but i WANT to use my lights, it 's infuriating how it just whiffs

Do the chain slower. It’s weird so it takes a little practice, but it works.

edit: actually this will whiff sometimes still. probably going to have to give up upkicks against elena for chains… cr.LP chain OS with cr.HK into linked cr.LP, Lunge, I guess?

I’ve also fought my Guy against a few Elena’s and elbow drop is USELESS if she just stays crouching.
Anyway her hurtbox is seriousely messed up, same for the other new characters. Also, yeah i needed to resort to cr.mp meaty’s and cr.lp chains intot st.lk lunge…
Also had problems against Decapre trying to connect a st.mp after 2 cr.mp attacks…wierd shit all around.

Low forward from optimal distance blows up Yun standing strong for huge damage. And when mixed with his gdlk FA or st forward, which beats Yun st forward, then you have pretty tough mid range.

I personally feel E Ryu beats Yun. He does well at stopping our game. And any mistake is resulting in HUGEEEEE damage.

My main issue is his low forward though. Our best guess is to get the E Ryu player in a pattern, so we can either whiff punish with Dive, st xx lunge. I would say roundhouse, but Lil Evil was doing it from a range that would hit me at times. So idk how reliable it is, but I wouldn’t rule it out completely.

I played the Rolento matchup last night in depth. Doesn’t seem too hard, but if you don’t have the lifelead it’s hard to get in on him.

Has anyone found a reliable button to interrupt air pogo, jump normal? I tried everything in the sun and it seems that I couldn’t get the reversal for it. I guess I did it too slow, but yeah.

Also, it seems like that EX wall jump his can be easily tracked and punished big time due to the invincibility running out when he hits the wall. If you are in the corner and have the knockdown, play for the meaty. If he does EX wall jump, you have a lot of time to punish it. Also, if you get space, you can interrupt the ground roll for a fat punish if you have meter, you can also U1 it if you have good reactions. I probably was doing the wrong punish on block because I couldn’t get a far st. mp to connect on him at all unless he was close to the corner.

Both mk/hk dive can cross him up on knock down situations because of his hitbox being wide.

That’s just some stuff I observed

Fuck E. ROO. I usually try and play hit and run, and pray I have the spacing right to bait a mk and dive on it. If I mess up I die

Air to air jump strong has been good to me during these situations. Either that, or the Role to users was playing bad, Lol.

Yea, you’re pretty spot on.

I think Yun beats him 6-4 overall. He really have crappy options in terms of pressure/wake up. And his frame trap game is ass. Because he can’t threaten with a throw due to his very bad walk speed. So Yun don’t really need to press buttons at all. Hell, a random backdash is good versus his st jab pressure.

His AA ST mp, just die to early/delay dive. Having 3 active frames for an AA, makes it really for Yun to manipulate. So his best bet is to often meet you in the air, with jump jab.

Why is the Original Post completely empty?

Wow what happened to the Rose matchup. My friend has a rose, and generally i steamroll him, but today hes given me a ton of issues. (Granted i’ve ignored my yun since the update)

Are any other Yuns having issues with her now?

I haven’t. Pretty much the only adjustment I’ve made against her is that the dive setups I once put up (may have been buried now), you can’t OS mp on her because of the invincibility. But they still all let you land in time to block.

She does more damage but for me nothing has changed honestly. Quick note: If she activates U2 from a distance and doesn’t cover herself with a fireball, just throw out st. lk. More often than not, you can catch a limb if she is careless about closing distance.

Wanted to leave another quick matchup note vs Rolento.

I checked on what Mago was getting at while playing my friend’s Rolento last night. Essentially after Patriot circle, you always want to quick rise at the fastest possible moment. If you do this, the best option he has midscreen is dash up throw.

So after he hit me with patriot circle, I quick rose and mashed cr. lp. In most cases, this stuffed what he was going to do and brought the momentum back to me because I could confirm into a combo from the distance between us.

He then tried to counter me with st. hk to counter my cr. lp. It was a really inconsistent counter for it, but it worked sometimes. But then that lost to reversal. Also at this distance that patriot circle leaves you, you can also command grab him or throw him on wake up.

Further testing is needed though. I’m just really going over what I confirmed last night. I think I got away with that jab wake up because of Yun having a 3 frame jab. I’d say people with good 3 frame jabs could do the same thing honestly.

Yeah i think rose vs yun is more or less the same as it was, she should still get blown up if you aren’t running into limbs too often lol

Yeah i was just rusty, dominated that matchup just fine.

Someone should make a new matchup thread this one is all over the place because of all the updates … The rose match up is really giving me problem as of late and the dee jay one too I just can’t get in on him …came here to look for answers lol

Hey guys I thought I’d share what I’ve learnt about the Rolento/Yun matchup:

Dealing with rolls:
Ex rolls can be punished with Ultra 2 if blocked STANDING.
I’ve tried punishing with normal moves but can’t seem to find anything
Rolls can also be swept or hit with cr mp if coming towards you.

Rolento’s wakeup
As far as i’m aware, Rolento is completely free on wakeup to Yun. His only options are to Ultra (which I believe are invincible) or to use one of two escapes. The roll escape can be OSd with the lunge punch OS just like a normal backdash.
His EX escape is trickier to deal with as he’s invincible all the way to the wall. I usually OS lunge punch everytime, and then jump up to meet him in the air with JHP as the lunge punch recovers in time and puts you closer to him.

In the corner, I OS using the Viper os (cr lp, smp+slp) as it catches rolls and recovers in time to punish ex escape with jump heavy punch.

General tech/problems
if rolento likes to spam his overhead to catch crouch techs, os crouch tech with mp as it makes the overhead trade
Sometimes Ex upkicks misses on rolento if he’s crouching and you’ve used both cr mp, smp in the combo

imo, 7-3 Yun’s favour
Hope this helps

Good writeup, I agree that the match seems heavily in Yun’s favor.

St.lk xx lp lunge can punish rolls, but timing is tricky. Frame wise it should be a 5f punish, but it feels a lot tighter. I’m 90% sure its because he reels back when he recovers so you have to hit him early in his recovery or he’ll be too far.

Didn’t know U2 can punish rolls, awesome!

Thanks for the lk~ lunge punish! I tried it in training but to punish EX you have to walk forward a bit and stand lk with sometimes causes lunge punch to turn into light shoulder

Also, just discovered U2 only punishes EX rolls if blocked. My mistake before  not sure if Ultra combo souble is still a good choice for the match now.
