Whiff dive kicks next to him to bait them out, then punish?
Makoto does well against Yun because she can rape him just as quickly as he can rape her. She has a hard punish if he tries to mash reversal (which a lot of the cast doesn’t) And he has low life so she can kill him in 2-3 combos.
awesome thread tataki i was about to make one like this. also for you yun users who say balrog gives you a hard time, can you tell me what he uses to give you a hard time? im thinking about picking rog up as a secondary and would be awesome to know what to do against yun.
C.LP and just solid defense from my experience. He can also anti air yun pretty well with C.FP and Jump back FP. He is just really hard to open up for me.
lol , i like this short but conscise evaluation of the matchup .
As far as guile and chun your just facing a better player. While Bison does go 5-5 with Yang. Bison does not do enough damage for his match up with yun to be even. I think Ken,Gief, Makoto(her st.strong is really good against dive kicks and her reward is almost equal to yun,Fei, and Rog.I also think in time people will learn to deal with rufus using yun.
Yun yun is 6-6
Blanka ball is punishable on hit with EX Shoulder, but Blanka might be able to get away with a safe ball combo eg. cr.lk, cr.lk, cr.lk, st.lp xx ball. This should be punishable on hit but considering we’re talking about Yun here nothing will surprise me…
I know you can punish HP ball with lunge punch on block or hit IIRC.
Anyone got any ideas on the Guile matchup? I have no clue about it.
I am no expert, but I’ll give my two cents. Try backing him into a corner. Just slowly walk him into the corner and NJ over his Sonic Booms. Something I always forget in a real match is that SB don’t do that much chip damage, so it’s ok to block a few to get in. I believe that if you can get in once against him he is done. He has a REALLY hard time keeping you off of him. You can mix him up with frame traps and command throws. If you notice a pattern from him you can Shoulder through his SB, but I wouldn’t do unless he was being REALLY obvious with his pattern. Stick with Ultra 1 because the chances of you Ultra 2 through his SB is slim!
I have limited experience with Yun, but lots of experience with dive kick characters such as Cammy/Rufus (former alts) so maybe I can help a little. Back in Super, this matchup was a completely uphill fight since blocking his booms wasn’t always the best option (he built ridiculous amounts of meter from them) and he could basically follow up his booms with relatively safe normals, to punish any button you press besides blocking. And if you do block, well then, more meter for him, for flash kick FADC when you get in, if you ever get in. But Guile has been seriously toned down in AE so this matchup should not be as bad as say Gief or THawk.
Anyways, one thing Guile always had trouble with was good low normals, such as Ryu’s cr.MK. Yun can almost do the same with his own cr.MK with buffered Lunge. This is best used to counterpoke Guile’s f+HP and far.st.HP. Another vital move in Yun’s arsenal is neutral jump dive kick. Cammy had the same option when she had meter to do neutral jump EX CStrike. Useful for situations where Guile does jab boom and walks behind it. If he picks up on your neutral jump dive kick, you can always mix it up by jumping forward with/without divekick to mess with his timing. If Guile is getting too predictable with his walking forward, you can always EX shoulder through it and surprise him. Also, thanks to the metergain nerf, and the frame advantage nerf on jab boom, it’s a lot easier and more feasible to walk Guile to the corner, like Protolno says. Lastly, you should abuse Palm as much as you can for meter, especially if you can time it so that it’ll even nullify Guile’s booms. This forces Guile to stay closer, within range to punish Palm spam, instead of the ideal 3/4 of the screen where he wants to be so he can boom , recover , antiair accordingly. Oh yeah and another move Guile will most likely follow a boom with is far.st.HK, to counterpoke your cr.MK. But his HK is fairly slow so you can most likely just dive kick and hit him on his recovery. You’ll also sometimes see Guile’s cr.MK, but it is no where near as damaging or scary as his heavy buttons.
And once you get in… well I don’t think I need to tell you what to do from there lol.
How well does ryu do agains yun?
Checkmate FT10 posted in video thread.
I honestly think that match is 5-5 to be honest. MAYBE… MAYBE 6-4 Yun at the very worst.
I have trouble against Ken, Cody, and Hakan. As someone said before, Ken has an answer to everything. Against Cody and Hakan, it could be that I need more practice, but they seems to be able to do some work.
I don’t know what to do against him period
dive kick harder. there is absolutely why you should have problems with a character that has better buttons, walk speed, and a better dive kick than rufus. (Yun’s dive kick is much better against claw because the height restrictions ensures that if you mash cr.mp you eat shit)
what about when he is flying all over the walls and stuff, what could I use to counter that?
Back Dash just as he is on top of you.
DP him just as he is on top of you.
Neutral jump and bitch slap him like the fairy fag that he is.
In the event, most likely he is doing this btw, he does raw EX Wall Dive, simply block and reversal HP DP.
And if you can’t get in on him then don’t apporoch him. 99.9% of Vega’s in AE are going to sit and mash cr.mp. Make him come to you (they always come at you after 15 sec), with out cosmic Heel he can’t mount a real offense and you are in a good position to initiate a dive kick offense on him when he approaches. Its a lot easier if you can lame him out. Don’t try this on a Vega that actively engages you and tries to space you because you will fall flat on your face.
for neutral jump what button should I use?
