You've Been Naughty: Official UMvC3 Morrigan Combo Thread

I’m having a lot of trouble with the third BnB Combo.

s.:l:, c.:m::h:, :s:, (super jump) j.:h:, Soul Fist :l:, Fly, (ADD) j.:h:, Soul Fist :h:, Unfly (land), (normal jump) j.:m::h:, Soul Fist :l:, Fly, (ADD) j.:h:, Soul Fist :l:, Unfly (land), :s:, (super jump) j.:m::m::h:, Shadowblade :m:, Finishing Shower

The part I’m having trouble with is launch, super jump,j.H, qcf.L(soul fist),qcb.S(fly),down l+m(down air dash). More specifically, the down air dash immediately after the fly is killing me. either I’m not doing it fast enough hence the dummy bounces too far away for j.m to connect or the dash simply doesn’t come out. Are there any tricks for this part?

Hm, I’m a little confused still. After you fly you should have a decent window to do the ADD into j.H. Try doing the combo in the corner first, it’s a lot easier there.

Doing the combo in the corner is indeed much easier as I don’t need to worry about not being close enough to the dummy to continue on with my combo. Trying to combo from mid screen however is still a nightmare. Being just a tad slow on the fly->ADD will result in the dummy being too far hence ending the combo prematurely(won’t be able to land the last part, h->soulfist->unfly->launch).

Have you experimented with different strengths of Soul Fist? Soul Fist H hits the opponent more vertically, whereas Soul Fist L hits them more horizontally. When I do the combo midscreen I do H L L H (I think). Different characters will require different strengths of Soul Fist.

I just adjust on the fly depending on the height after the first soul fist which is H. If their whole body is above you you’re definitely not doing H for the second loop.

So, im not sure if yall are aware or not, but it seems like M soul fist is less affected by hitstun decay than L Soul Fist is. For example:

This works consistently:

H Shadowblade xx fly > j.H xx L Soul Fist xx Unfly > ADD j.H > land cr.M, cr.H, f+H > j.MMH xx **M Soul Fist **xx fly > ADD j.H xx H Soul Fist > Relaunch > stuff

This does NOT work (at least not in my experience / testing)

H Shadowblade xx fly > j.H xx L Soul Fist xx Unfly > ADD j.H > land cr.M, cr.H, f+H > j.MMH xx **L Soul Fist **xx fly > ADD j.H xx H Soul Fist > Relaunch > stuff

If this is true, its kinda interesting. May also explain why using M Soul Fist during her infinite makes the infinite easier.

Nvm, they both work. I guess that I was testing something else. Either way, I know there is a combo off of Shadowblade that doesn’t work when you use L soul fist, but DOES work when you use M soul fist. Ill test things again when I get home.

That’d be interesting, since I’ve never found a combo that would use Soul Fist M instead of L :stuck_out_tongue:

The setup for the SB infinite prefers M instead of L

I haven’t practiced the infinite in like 3 months, I should probably get back to that lol.

Between the combos that go right into a launch and the ones that go into a fwd+H, jump cancel stuff first, is there a compelling reason to do one over the other? I want to crack down and really practice a good BNB, but want to make sure I’m working on the right thing.

I definitely value consistency over damage, but my current BNB does horrible dmg. So ill work on something better, but don’t need to do the fanciest shit in the name of maximized damage.

The f.H version is more consistent, because you don’t have to rejump if you want to finish the combo early (for things like odd spacing, hitstun, etc.) and as a blockstring you can cancel f.H into fly, soul fist, shadowblade etc. Launch version does more damage, that’s the diff.

@Oerba or whoever, so what’s the main combo to do for Morrigan in XF2/3? I think I saw something in her most recent combo video, but wanted to know if anyone had quick notations for something off the ground or off like an air to air shell kick hit. Specifically in XF2.

I just use F+H shellkick combos in xfactor. Soul fist combos in xfactor are weird to adjust.

Do you guys so the same bnb if you catch a hit in astral? When I do I feel like I get some funky side switches midscreen, unless my eyes are just crossing myself up. Lol

The standard combo for AV is hitconfirm -> f+H, j.MMHxxSF HxxFly, Dash Forward MHxxSF LxxUnfly, S, neutral super jump ender. Sometimes the relaunch part is tricky because of AV tomfoolery.

Another option is AV resets to steal meter.

Depending on your assists, you could also set up corner SD ping pong.

Nice! Does that sequence work outside of astral? My normal bnb has been the fwd+H stuff, but with only one SF in the initial jump loop. So I saw the above and was like, “ohh, that’s how I get the 2nd fb.” But I’m finding midscreen, not in astral, that 2nd L SF knocks them too far away. Is it just which SF versions you use that changes? Or the sequence entirely?

Outside astral you need to do, instead of Dash Forward, Dash Down HxxSF LxxUnfly, relaunch etc.

Here’s the video of two of those loops, but honestly, I never do the second one midscreen, the risk/reward isn’t worth it IMO. In the corner you have to use different SF strengths but I can’t remember right now which ones I use.

Thanks, man. I was afraid that would be the answer. No idea why I have so much harder a time when it requires a down air dash. Oh well, just need to pick one combo (immed launch or f+H jc) and grind it till my thumbs bleed lol morris become easily my best in neutral, but I’m droppin everything on hit (or not dropping combos that don’t break 300k before super lol)

(opener) c.MH6H jMMH xx Soul Fist xx Flight, dash HS, c.HS MMH xx Shadow Blade M xx Finishing Shower should get you around 450k before hyper, close to or over 600k after. It works both normally and in AV.

Not the best B&B, but it does the job until you learn something better.
