How many times have you heard this immortal phrase?
Perhaps it’s come from a girlfriend or some college friend who thinks its cool to completely ignore the genre, but will quite happily watch, beer in hand, when there’s a gamer gathering and try to act like they know what they’re talking about. Or maybe from a person who just thinks that playing games on any level is just sad.
It would be interesting to find out what the typical responses to this kind of statement are.
I don’t care what other people think of me, they can do what they want. Arguing with them never works anyway. If you make a big deal out of it you just look sad.
I get this alot from my family. I still live with my mother, and she always bitches at how I could be doing better things with my time then just sit there practice execution skills with Remy all day. Also, just about every girlfriend I had bitches as well. I think that games can be a serious, competitive sport if you make it that way, but most people don’t see it like that. Oh well.
I always hear it…and I’m only 16…they always call me a loser and shit, but when they play with me, there like, “this is awsome man!” “how come your never showed me this before?”…
And they don’t call me a loser when I beat their asses in sports…
But they don’t know what they’re talking about, they think SC2 is better than MvC2, CvS2, and 3s…dam kids…
“What’s the proper age? When is too old? Did the government decide this? WHO decides this? What if I was playing solitaire/darts/cards/bingo/pool/other lesiurely activity instead?? Why is THAT acceptable?”
Basically get them to admit that the only reason they think so is because of personal bias caused by stereotypes and conditioning.
I cant help but notice that the people who seem to moan most about video games are those who have tried them, realised they have the had eye co-ordination of a drunken 3 year old, and set up a life long hate campaign in order to never suffer the embarrassment of being seen shoving the controller above their head every time they want their character to jump… this is just a theory of course, but im sure there must be some truth to it.
Being an ‘old’ gamer, i’ve had to endure many a comment from lots of random people. I do find though, that when i ask them to give me a reason as to WHY it’s sad to have the interests i do, they actually can’t give me an answer. It’s usually ‘because it is’ or some other lame shit.
Out of those I would take 3S over SC2 any day. Hardly play the other two.
Yeah, I get shit from this too, but usually only from my parents or random idiots. My girlfriend and most of my friends play games so they are not bothered by it at all, tho.
I’m 32, going on 33. I really am too old for video games. Oh well, better than having a drug or drinking problem from being depressed because I’m not playing video games.
Have you ever played one person that used any of the street fighters? no cause the capcom side sucks and marvel side is TT. anyways it doesn’t matter cause cvs2 takes more skill and is a much better game by far
I don’t say anything when sombody tells me I’m too old (today is my 19th B-Day). I just give them the finger. SC2 and MvC2 are both good games, so don’t bash these games if you suck or don’t understand them.
