jab criminal upper is unsafe as well. but it recovers the fastest. its still overall a good poking tool as long as its used from a distance. using the move at a distance drastically reduces your opponents options to punish you. but you still have to be careful.
all his moves are unsafe on block, basically, except rocks and low ruffian from max range.

what can you punish light CU with after a blocked c.lp x2, c.mp? Seems to push cody far enough away to stay pretty safe.
Elfuerte ultra spark punishes it, so i guess ryus/chun super and all that kind of stuff will punish it.
Wouldn’t you consider the cost for this a bit steep? Considering ex ruffian goes through fireballs (I think), maybe its better off used for that or HK ruffian->U1 opps. 3 bars is a lot to me.
Which reminds me…do you think you could ex zonk to U1 in the corner without any additional bar? Sounds plausible in my head.
haunts: i know various supers can punish it. iirc, blanka ball can punish(but you can punish back with u2 hehe). hakan’s f+rh oiled up seems to do well.
for the most part it is relatively safe, no doubt. i’d throw it out at max range, even on opponent wakeup, with little fear of retaliation.
raynex: saying that 3 stocks is expensive meter spending is like telling rufus players to not use ex messiah fadc ultra. we all know how stupid powerful that is. EX zonk is basically the new messiah. you have a huge 100% invulnerable move to blow through everything into an ultra for half life. yeah meter well spent. and believe me, you wont land high ruffian off the c.strong a lot. You usually catch your opponent crouching in most matches, which means you cannot land it(except against a couple large characters).
cody builds meter really well and can fight well without it. 3 meters for a safe invincible setup that can lead to 50%+ damage is just fine in my book
…??? A few things:
Isn’t EX Zonk unsafe on block unless FADC’d? meaning 75% meter for an attempt at half life?
Also EX zonk is apparently upper body invincibility only? Someone said it in the guide thread.
Can cody do EX Zonk FADC Ultra1 midscreen? I read it was corner only? Great news if you can.

Holy shit. I didn’t know ex zonk had that much invincibility. It sounds well worth the cost if you explain it like that.

Ex zonk is 100% invincible for 16 frames. The first active hitframe is on frame 16. It is unsafe on block. No different than how messiah kick was, and we all know how silly that move is. Regular zonk also becomes active on frame 16. but he is also fully vulnerable on the frame as well and can trade slot. During the first 15 frames. He is vulnerable from the knees on down and is fully throwable.

So are there any blockstrings you can use to make lp CU safe? Also, any idea how safe his overhead is?
AFAIK regular bingos are not grab invinc, but ex probably is. But based on how Cody moves when doing Zonk, it might be hard to grab normally.
On 1UP Game Night vid they messed around for a bit trying to punish Cody’s overhead on block. It is safer than it looks but its still punishable unless maybe if you do it at max-ish range.
so as far as I’ve seen you can finish your BnB’s with low RK for an untechable KD. why do people use CU more often? to me an untechable KD seems worth the (assumed) loss of damage.

I don’t end with ruffian cuz the timing is more strict to combo and you run the riskof it getting blocked, leaving you in a really bad punishment position. Criminal is the safer option and still leaves you in a good advantage situation. I would use low ruffian for wiff punishments, and a c.fierce,low ruffian punishment. But that’s me.
I just prefer the safer route, to cover mistakes
