You're borin' the crap outta me~ Cody video thread

Just to let yuh know, i’ve been learning alot from your matches an it is helping alot since i now started playing Cody…

poeple say cody sucks, but the truth is everyone sucks with cody. I havent seen one decent cody besides ryan heart , sorry guys. Wish i had video stuff to post some of my casuals. I come in here just to see if maybe someone will wow me but it never happens lol.

In one of them I saw you do Cr.fp-ex rocks-LDD off a counterhit at the start

is that a legit combo? Or did I Just mistake something . Excuse the nature of a newer player asking silly questions

Glad it helped you out =).

What do you mean by legit? It’s practical if that’s what you mean, if fishing for counters is part of your game.

Jais beating on a sagat with cody. The whole channel is filled with really good cody videos.

From a recent tournament. Got 5th in it out of 31 people. :frowning:

can someone please exaplin to me why so many people use b.mp cr.mp combo. It doesn’t hit crouching opponents… does b-mp on block give crap loads of frame advantage or something?

I think you’re confusing b.MP with cl.MP. They look kind of similar, but cl.MP is the one that’s used against grounded characters. And yes, it is a massive +4 on block, and +7 on hit, so it sets up for a wide variety of followups on hit or block. One of the core tools in his pressure game for sure.

On another note, we’re in the process of uploading a batch of videos from our casual session from this last Monday (5-24-10). Most of the videos have me in them. You can check them out on the site, or the youtube account (PS: subscribe). Also, this is only about half the batch from Monday. The other half will be going up tomorrow afternoon/evening, so if you liked these matches, check back tomorrow for more.

Let me know what you think :woot:

EDIT: Actually, not 100% sure if there’s more videos, I think what’s up now might be the entire batch, because there’s 14 up already from Monday. So don’t hold me to more tomorrow.

your my favorite cody, but your always getting messed up doing forward hard kick. Do you ever like to try out U1? Its so easy to combo into and i know you could have some crazy good matches with u1. close medium punch-down hard punch-hard ruffian kick-fdac-U1 all day. Hard ruffian kick beats so many atacks and can easily combo into u1. But u2 is also great, i just feel like both are needed. Btw your u2 skills are nasty lol.

1:44 cody u2 bait was just nasty

Thanks. And yeah, I’m actually trying to cut down using t.HK as much. Still kind of in the experimentation phase, you know? I feel like in certain matchups its really strong, and in others it’s a little more worthless. You see my using it a lot against Rose, and in that matchup I think it’s justified. Against any char whose main pokes are low, I think it’s stronger. Rose has some great standing pokes, but you can see in the videos, Jeff uses a lot of c.MK, so I was using an extra dose of t.HK to try to fight that.

Honestly, that’s probably not even the best idea, because even if you t.HK over it, it’s still almost impossible to punish, and a lot of the time, c.MK has so many hitting frames, you just wind up landing on it instead. But like I said, I’m still kind of experimenting, and working out my basics. Also, you have to take into account the fact that Rose can’t punish the t.HK that hard. Worst case I eat a random c.MK, and that’s it. It’s well worth the risk to get in on her, because once you do, you can do some serious damage.

That also helps to explain why I was jumping so much in that match. Look at the third round, first time I successfully get a jump in, but I take off half her life from it (one jump in, and then a throw in the following mixup), and push her all the way to the corner (even though I fail to convert into more damage).

I played with U1 for the first week or so the game came out. I thought U2 was more matchup specific because at the time, the practicality of cl.MP -> U2 seemed low since it’s a one frame link, and hit confirming off EX rocks, and t.MP were unknown to me.

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: In my opinion, U2 is better then U1 in every way possible, except for anti air, but Cody has arguably the best set of anti airs in the game, so it’s kind of unnecessary. The combo you said, cl.MP, c.HP xx HK RK FADC U1…first of all, that scales the Ultra damage pretty heavily, especially considering you’ll probably be doing a jump in or c.LP before that to help hit confirm the cl.MP. But yet, just the same, if you’re hitting a cl.MP, you could just do cl.MP -> U2, for way better damage, and it costs no meter.

In addition to that, U2 is an amazing punisher, does amazing chip damage, and the sand part of the Ultra actually does a good bit of the total damage of the Ultra, so I’ve used it before as anti air, or as a juggle to finish someone off.

Like I said, U1 is only better then U2 in two ways. First, as anti air, and second, because he says “Jackpot” when you hit it. I wish he said it when you hit U2 .

About forward hard kick

I think its a good far punishing tool. I saw you use it like that afew times, also its good in combo. My main problem with forward hard kick is poeple tend to duck it on reaction. Once they duck it i feel like they have adavantage. DO they? I used to use forward kick as a tool to get in close to grab , but i dont anymore cause i felt like i didnt have advanatge.

About u1 vs u2

Yeah i agree with you 100%. Sometimes when you use hard ruffian kick on jumping opponent too early cancel into fdac-u1, your u1 misses. And u2 is way better in damage and speed and countering. I wanted to get good with u1 first because i felt like it was the bnb ultra. But after watching your matches and talking to you i think your very right. man it hurts that im gona have to get good with this 1 frame ultra link :frowning:

Note…U2 can be used anti Air… if someone jumps toward you and you activate it when the typical j.hk would just about hit you…You will connect full U2 in a lot of instances

I believe it has to do with the fact that the sand is actually pretty high off the ground initially

It’s known.

It works similar to trip-guard in that respect.

~2:15 should have been the easiest jumping fierce/roundhouse to U2 ever. There was a situation in another match where you hit with knife j.fierce and just went for c.strong afterward instead of U2.

Anyway, there’s a good Rose I play against regularly. The worst that can happen off a bad f+HK isn’t a simple poke, it’s a combo into soul spiral xx super. I really haven’t had much success with f+HK. Also, did you know you can EX ruffian through her fireballs on reaction? She has slow startup and the worst fireball recovery in the game, so it’s very easy from around half screen. She shouldn’t be throwing fireballs like that against Cody. Rose players can do an FADC back dash if they’re smart, but that’s a situation where they really can’t punish you hard.

I’m surprised the U2 through her fireball worked at the distance you did it though, I’ve got to start looking for that.

I like your cody videos a lot, but I can’t help think that you guys over at optionselect are doing yourselves a disservice by not posting ibuki gameplay videos. Ibuki’s tutorial is the most viewed video you have, but there is only 1 gameplay video.

Yeah, the jump in hit confirms to U2 is still something I haven’t started working into my game yet. I’m trying to change a few other habits right now, and then that’s one of the first things I’m going to work on.

I hadn’t messed with EX RK on reaction to fireballs. The session these videos are from is basically the second time I really had any matches against Rose, so I’m still figuring out the matchup. One thing you don’t see in these matches is a lot of s.LK, which I experimented with a bit in the other session, and seemed to work surprisingly well against some of Rose’s pokes.

Definitely going to start doing that though, because if it’s as easy as it seems it should be, and shuts down her FB game completely, that matchup should be a lot easier.

Thanks for the compliment, but like Yeb points out, there’s still a lot of rough edges on my Cody, but the the game is still new and I’m fixing bad habits and adding new stuff to my game every session.

About the Ibuki matches, eiSH rarely plays Ibuki now. He was considering maining her, but he settled more on Juri, so we don’t get many Ibuki matches these days.
