Teleports and projectiles ruin this game imo. Mvc3 Teleports as we see them should have been something added to the concept to make what was the mvc2 metagame more varied. However, mvc2’s metagame doesn’t even exist anymore, what’s worse is they they made AAA garbage and made PJA godlike. So this whole game basically revolves around summoning godlike projectile (be it a beam, drones, missiles, weasel, whatever) and either teleporting, dashing or even jumping to the other side. I don’t know how many times that has to happen before I get bored out of my skull. And the theory behind it is fucked. It didn’t solve any problems people had with mvc2, it just added new and ultimately worse problems. Call projectile > teleport is super safe for the aggressor, only thing really stoping you eating a combo is godlike blocking or a snap back… Even sitting here typing this, thinking about this blows my mind about how little Capcom actually understood mvc2 and why it’s components were important to this kind of gameplay. Mvc2 had it right! Believe it or not mvc2 had it right! Their solution was basically adding XF, just add XF and if people are in a sticky situation they can just pop It and mash buttons and win. This is why sentinel is garbage, because unless they added AAA he’d be too good. Ughhh. Where’s a nice AAA when you need one.
They put all the nice AAAs in Skullgirls.
Sentinel not being gdlk in this game more so has to do with how he is before the assists. He still wouldn’t be that big of a deal the way he is now even with AAA assists.
What I mean is that if sentinel had his j.lk and fast fly and responsive flight he’d just be able to stomp stomp stomp on people like he used to. But he’d probably be overpowered in that he’d absolutely dominate the air with instant overheads and the godlike mvc3 projectiles would pin people down even worse because they’ve got no invincible air defence. They’d have to put in decent AAA to give people a chance at keeping him out, but clearly they don’t want to have decent AAA in this game for whatever messed up reason. This is why Sentinel is garbage I think, why else would they cripple his style so much? It’s not like he was unbalanced in the MvC2 metagame, AAA keep him out and give characters like Cable space to breathe, it would work exactly the same here in mvc3, maybe even better given the added usefulness of advanced guard.
This game is too offensive and safe for the aggressor, the only defenisve tool is a scrubby gimmick, it sucks.
It wouldn’t be so bad if none of the teleports crossed up. I’d be ok with them as pressure tools in that case, but when cancelling assist+stinger into teleport on frame 17 forces you to block one way and frame 18 another, it gets a little stupid. Not to mention you can also vary the timing on the assist call and the assist is almost entirely safe from retaliation once you get to the other side.
I’m sorry, but it’s utterly foolish to obstinately deny that this is a moronic game mechanic, especially considering it is quite impossible to react to and ends up killing the guy on defense more often than not. You can say you enjoy that kind of gameplay and admit you need the crutch because creating mixups is too difficult for you otherwise, but don’t bullshit me at tell me it’s easy to get around. I know most of you are mediocre players on your best day, so cut the crap.

Exactly my point. It’s too safe because a lot of the time worse case scenario they end up in a block string they can’t punish. This is why I liked vanilla better than ultimate, Tron assist and Haggar assist added a little bit of balance to the game. They made it so players like Dante had to actually think about how they approach, they couldn’t just herp derp air dash and frame trap because otherwise they’d run into assists like Tron. Akuma is still quite good and so is shopping cart, but they don’t benefit from invincibility. Players need to be afraid of invincibility, it has to be a component of the game, imo. I know some people disagree with that, but it’s just the way I see it. In a game like this, not taking how the cast relate to one another into account, it adds balance to the system. Calling Tron and getting a combo isn’t free, havIng brain dead rushdown that’s unpunishable is.
Why dont you use GTFO assist like Hulke gamma charge (AA) or Jill’s or others like them?
Two reasons.
A) a lot of “GTFOM” assists lack decent start up invincibility which is required when you’re faced with cross up situations and drones coming at you from behind and,
B) they’re not as good as projectiles
YEP. exactly my point as well, though i like this game better cause of lack of phoenix salty ball cheese and mag L ruptah cheese. i liked tron and haggar assists… well at least i liked the invincible GTFO. it made baiting linear and was an ACTUAL mindgame that people HAD to play when playing against those assists. what i didnt like was the easy combo that those assists gave on hit. THAT was extremely stupid. now this game is basically mash buttons at each other while trying to mixup your airdash/jump patterns and randomly get the hit for either character. which is why so many people feel the game is “random”. at lower levels of characters and players it truly is. it only stops being randmo when you have a character that can safely control space, while doing damage, while also setting themselves up for an unexpected get in. ie… wesker superjump gun, zero jump buster. everything else is pretty much running amok and rock paper scissoring for damage… not necessarily a bad thing since guessing games are good… but guesses used to be positionally based and they really no longer are… THATS the problem.
its one i think goes away with TONS of skill… but i dont think most players are capable of that skill, whereas most players ARE capable of that skill in o… say sf4.
meh, im hit or miss with this game, ill love it one minute and HATE it another. ppretty much the same with all fighting games, but i find my percentage of disliking this game to be higher than any other one ive played consistently. its really the lack of baiting/mindgames that does it for me.

I think from Vanilla, the only changes needed were whatever changes to Wolverine that were made and Phoenix getting nerfed. Honestly, if they kept her the way she was, but required a level 3 X-Fac to transform, she’d have been instantly balanced out, IMHO.
Less Phoenix and harder to build meters is what makes me like Ultimate over Vanilla.
The only thing the assist nerfs did was make the game more linear and less deep. A good variety of solid assists really helped add depth to the game.

Vergil- It’s pain in the ass to punish, and it’s punish in the ass to stop him to get in. He doesn’t have to put up with the bullshit that Strange/Deadpool/Strider have to deal with. Which is why his teleport is so good, and rewarding. It’s even faster with DT/X-factor. Instant High blood pressure.
Wesker- That invisible gunshot(which has the hitbubbles that of a thin beam), a 1 frame grab, safe normals, corner crossup teleport, and his significant x-factor/glass boost(which effect frame data BTW on his teleports) still give people problems.
Dormmamu- You would be angry too if you got hit by this bullshit here…
Dante- His teleport can be made safe with a assist and his own projectile…it insantly becomes too good for given his endless list of tools.
Dark Phoenix- You know…Guess Right= You can die mostly if you escape from her claws. Guess Wrong=Instant Death, and get fucked over by the same shit. It’s not bad as before, but it’s rage inducing when you know you can’t do shit about it.

Me personally I didn’t mind the damage off Tron assist, I think if they don’t respect the assist maybe they deserve the damage, but I think that’s just a matter of taste. To be honest I find the damage of 1f teleport mixups or free combos/mixups off missiles to be equally retarded.
Calling a Tron and getting a combo was the other assist+port of Vanilla really. It basically just screwed the game over in a bigger way IMO since there were only 2 assists that could do that and those characters were being used specifically for that purpose when most of the people that wanted to main those characters wanted to play them on point any way. Tron assist was gdlk cuz you could use it as an AA assist or for Assist + port. Mainly because you could convert Tron (or Haggar) into full combos. At high level play people did more rushing down with those assists because it was basically a free shoryu FADC that you could combo off of and assist + port with. People were hardly winning with those assists for their defensive purposes after a certain point in Vanilla. Getting an invincible rushdown to combo conversion tool was way more stupid than the defensive gain you got from those assists.
The worst thing about Tron/Haggar+ assist was what it did to buff your offense. It basically gave you an invincible poke during your rushdown while shutting your opponent’s rushdown also. If they just made it so you couldn’t combo off it it wouldn’t be so bad but they essentially put in an assist that shut down both offense and defense at the same time which wasn’t going to work in the long run either.
Sadly offensively what you could do with those assists took away from any defensive benefit they added to the game. The best thing about those assists was the free rushdown you could set up off them. Even more free than assist + port IMO. Partly because you COULD do assist + port with an AAA assist and get full combos off of it. If Capcom thought about it they should have just taken away the comboing off of thing from the assists but…spilled milk now.

It was kinda obvious from the get go that MVC3 wasn’t going to be a true successor to MVC2 like people wanted. It’s just it’s own game with Marvel and Capcom characters and emphasis around building teams and assists around them like MVC2. Play Skullgirls if you want MVC2 successor. **
Which at the same time…most top players either way are able to play UMVC3 perfectly competitively even with such strong tactics as assist + port. Sure there’s stuff to complain about or stuff that’s difficult to deal with but nothing that’s stopping people from entering tournaments for the game.

…I just noticed now how I always am able to tech throw people that try to air throw punish my Strider.
If throw teching was fixed then this can only mean that Strider’s unsafe frames after he teleports is… basically really small in number? Not to mention that he appears higher than your usual teleport too (I swear it takes more than double the time to land back to the ground on a grounded opponent as opposed to Dante’s Air Trick)

Now you are ready. Just look the input to know when a move start. Attack button input means the first frame. For the recovery usually i try to jump. You have to know that when you see the character extend his legs it’s the 4th frame of a jump (there are 3 prejump frames on the ground)
For recovery in air i use turbo + atk input. It’s more harder to figure out but it’s possible
Regular Phoenix teleport is exactly like the framedata in bradygames so 20 frames of recovery when she reappear.
Dark Phoenix with XF3 is 7 (startup) +14 (recovery)
Deadpool has 7 frames of recovery when he reappear.
