My friend that got me into Street Fighter IV mains Cammy, so I’ve kind of got a love hate relationship with that matchup. He plays a mean Chun Li as well, which is the matchup I hate the most. Tick throw hell and I don’t have a very good answer for the auto crossover kick she has. My other friend mains Gief but we don’t get to play as often, so I don’t think I’ve learned to hate that matchup yet.
Bison is dumb. So safe on block, always out of range for TT with scissors. Nothing really blatantly punishable in his game for Abel to use to his advantage.
Balrog. Jab CHs all day. Abel has one of the slowest jabs/shorts in the game at 5 frames. Its so hard to do anything to a Balrog that jab spams to headbutt etc
RUFUS… he just makes me mad. Dive kick spam and we have no answer to that. Mix-up goes to hell in fear of the Jesus kick. Besides Zangief, those are some of the worst for me.
I’ve had a lot of trouble playing against really good Cammy’s and Honda’s. Those are probably the worst. There are some good ways to get damage on Chun/Bison/Rufus but when it comes to Zangief I just pick Sagat.
Zangief, but everyone knows that. Chun Li, too.
Thanks for the info. Also know I can counter his Horizontal Roll with an ultra after I blocked it.
Let’s see. Chun, followed by Akuma and Honda. I don’t even sweat Zangief anymore because I’m used to that match-up now. Chun stops everything I do. Akuma, too many escapes and options to get out of whatever bullshit I can throw at him (although, I do like doing lots of damage against him). Honda, well, it’s really only Mike Ross’ Honda that makes me angry.
Good Akuma’s make life difficult. They win the fight in close, at medium poke range, and at far range. They win in the air and on the ground. One knockdown could lead to me losing the round. I knock them down and more likely than not they will escape. It’s always an uphill battle.
Giefs who combo are tough to deal with. And Blanka still gets the better of me more often than they really should.
Chun Li and Viper.
Retarded matchups. If I win it"s only by shennanigans and guessing
Chun, Rog & Honda.
I’m having real issues with Viper rushdowns right now. I mean it’s not my worst match-up, but it is the match-up I feel I should be able to get through (thanks to my divine damage output, have been spending some time hit confirming counter step kicks as of late…) but I often fall to this one hurdle. So I was wondering if anybody could give me any pointers?
Boxer, no question.
I’m still pretty new to SF4 (and SF in general, having not played any SF games before 4 since ssf 2 turbo for SNES when I was 10 ) and I"m sure a lot of it is just lack of matchup experience and my inability to consistently pull off the two frame link, but Boxer seems to give me a way, way harder time than any of the other characters I’ve had to play against on a regular basis.
Jab seems to stop so much of what I’m doing cold, and find a lot of my timing for wakeup-mixups has to be SUPER precise or I’ll screw up the windows and bam, jab. Only Gief beats me worse at the moment.
Honda/Akuma/Chun
I hate them besides the obvious gief.
Aside from the aforementioned Chun-Li, I seem to have a lot of trouble with Vega. Maybe because I’m a new Abel player after mostly using Cammy but I can never get any kind of a bead on him.
And chasing Akuma all day wears thin.
Believe it or not…Vega. For whatever reason I have trouble punishing him, especially when he goes to use the flying claw/throw. I suppose I could roll, but it still puts me at square one.
against vega i find that jumping fierce + blocking stops most of his air shenanigans. then you just wait for an opening to get in and start the mixups.
chun seems designed to kill abel. a great backdash and great normals with range. also ive never really found a way to punish ex. spinning bird. that seems to beat pretty much all my oki stuff at the cost of 1 bar. i probably just need to learn my options better.
im not really sure about what to do against akuma’s demon flip on wakeup and he has a lot of options against abel on his wakeup.
and the gief matchup is just stupid.

Chun- no f.mk poke confirm (cr.lk cr.lp) to CoD, I spend half the match working on have her waste her meter so I can rush her down and then when she has no meter she can zone me until she has more anyway. She just controls the space of the match so I can’t get in period.
Bison- h.k when used correctly
rog- one that knows to just not do anything and be patient
