first game i ever touched/player was street fighter 2 back in 1990.
loved the copetitive action you get from a fighting game the feeling of winning and the anger of a close lost the tournaments everything. It’s a shame that alot of people don’t enjoy fighting games as much.
Capcom vs SNK2- Ken/Joe/Chun li DREAM TEAM!!!

while everybody was on sf2 I was on fatal fury and the rest is history:wgrin:

-19 M White
-sf2ce 92 Arcade
-Ryu’s bandanna captivated me, as it still does today. Plus nothing was cooler to me than SF2, MK just sucked
-SF2CE, HF, SSF2 (SNES) and ST are my main games now, with the occasional SFA2 and 3s. I stick to Ryu and Guile mostly.

I really forgot which game I started out with, could be street fighter zero though.

Fighting games seems to be the ‘in’ thing over here, that’s why I’m playing and loving the scene. There’s an arcade in about every 10km square of this small country, hence there’s always people to play with.

I play most of the games available in the arcades casually. Some games that are more commonly found in most arcades are: kof(can use most of the characters), marvel(god tiers), SF2(mostly Claw), Guilty Gear(mainly Dizzy and Baiken).

First Fighting Game/Year - In all honesty it had to be Kung Fu Championships for the NES or Street Fighter on the arcade, but first game I actually got really into like obsession wise lol was Street Fighter 2: World Warrior not sure on these dates.

What/Why/how I got into fighting games -
-What got me into fighting was the games just seemed more appealing to me. When SF2 came out I was a little 6 yr old kid. I saw all the older people playing the game and wanted to play and ended up having a natural talent. I also like competition which fighters offer alot of. I have met alot of my friends through gaming and still hang out with must of them till this day.
-Why I got into fighting well more game in general was due to I basically grew up in an arcade. I loved my NES but loved it more when I went to the local arcade called Funworld. My big brother would use his cute little bro (me) to pick up girls at the arcade which was also a dance hall, hang out, and had a its own little concession stand. (It was also right next to the movie theater). I would end up getting $3 and i would make that small amount of money last ALL day literally. Like I said I had a natural talent for games in general.
-How I got into fighting was mentioned above I saw the older people playing and being amazed and having fun so naturally being a little kid I wanted to try it. I ended being better the most of the older kids who play (keep in mind Im like 6yrs old and everybody around me is 12-21+, lots of older people were there since it had a dance hall attached). My head stuck up just above the button board and my arms were usually stretched out to play. I would rack up 20+ wins and people would be amazed and friends would laugh at the other friends who lost to a kid only to lose themselves. I stuck with it ever since. Once I lost I just got back in the line and waited my turn. I just loved to compete in these type of games or anything for that matter hence why I played lots of sports. Its fun, heart pounding at times, and keeps you on edge.

Current favorite fighting game - Super Street Fighter 2: Turbo, Street Fighter 3: Third Strike, Capcom vs SNK 2, starting to get back into Marvel vs Capcom 2 again a little bit

-DJ-

33, M, Celt/NA (Caucasion with a little Native American)
-Karate Champ, (Karateka?) followed by SF2 and Fatal Fury…
-Games like Pac Man and Shooters for the most part were the games that made me competitve in video games, you know with trying to get the highest score, beating the game with 1 credit not losing a life, and the fastest finish time…And then SF2 created a different/new kind of genre for competitive gaming!

21,Male,El Salvador baby!
SF Champion Edition on Arcade.
Marvel got me hooked again staying away from FGs. I like comics so Marvel was a no -brainer.
MvC2, 3S. Enjoy but suck at CvS2 and Kof.

After several months on hiatus, , I just want to let everybody know, this research is still on going and thinking of keeping to run this survey as long as possible. Increasing the number reasons every year as I continue to compile the results here.

For those who participated and future participants, thank you very much and really appreciate it!

All these while waiting for Arcana Hearts PS2!!!

-Street fighter II WW Arcade when it first released(weren’t much if any other 1-on-1 fighters back then).
-I’ve always loved the action of fighters, and enjoy testing my ability against others.
-Marvel Vs Capcom 2(Ryu/Charlie/Commando+ground assist) and Fist of the North Star(Souther, rei, and Kenshiro).

SF2 on snes when released
martial arts training / bloodsport movie
tekken (Bryan,Steve)/ any sf (Ryu/rest) / garou (Kim/Terry)

20 M Asian
SF2 Turbo on SNES (93ish?)
I got into MvC and XvSF cause of the cool/long combos, then that paved the way to all the other fighting games (3s, Garou, Alpha 3, ST, CvS2, etc)
3s - Yun; Garou - Grant/Jae Hoon; ST - Guile

19/M/ A NIGGA
MVC (1999)

MVC was the first fighter I ever played, I saw it at an arcade. I knew jack shit about Ryu/Ken/Chun or w/e. I just had a complete hard-on when I saw spider man. Then some guy came up to the machine and taught me how to really play. Then I got hooked, when I first played other shit like SF2 I thought it was dumb at first, I fell in love after a few weeks though.

Current Fighters: Street Fighter III 2nd impact: Ibuki, Sean, Yang, Ryu
KOF 2000 (even though I suck): Vanessa, Iori, Ralf, Jhun/anyone
Street Fighter III 3rd Strike: Ibuki, Chun (SA1), Ryu (SA3), Sean (for shits and giggles)
Garou (suck at this too): Jae, Gato, Terry, Dong, Rock
KOF 98: Yashiro (reg.), Iori, Benimaru/Ralf
