Your first/oldest fighting game -FG Hist Research-

-22 black male
-Pit fighter arcade 90. If that doesn’t count SFII, arcade, 91
-I was always smaller and smarter than most of the people that I hung with so of course I was the one they fucked with the most. The only shit I was good in was foot races and gymnastics from a competition standpoint. When I played my first fighting game it gave me a way to shut people up with one on one ass whippings, which are really sweet when I was about 7 in the arcade playing 16 year olds that sucked ass…good times.
-MvC2 (sent/strider/doom among others), 3S (Ken, Dud, thongboy, Hugo), Kof XI (lots of people) and i’ll try anything else.

  • 21, Female, German-Irish-Puerto Rican, Identify white.
  • SF2, SNES, damn if I can remember the year. Sorry.
  • Hanging out at the arcade (Chinatown Fair) and seeing the amounts of money that would change hands over MvC2. I didn’t know people still played fighting games until I started going to CF when I was 15 to play DDR. From there, it was history!
  • I’m not good at any of em, but I play as Maori in Arcana Heart and I am currently trying to learn Satsuki in Melty Blood.

-21, Male, Filipino
-WW in SNES in '91
-To take my game up a notch and compare my game with others
-Will play whatever but for real; ST (Chun-Li), A3 (V-Mika, V-Karin, V-Charlie), MBAC (Nero Chaos), VS (Demitri, Felicia)

-22/Male/White(mostly Irish)
-Does Karate Champ on the NES count? If not, it’d be World Warrior in the arcade.
-Summer '94, I found a SF 2 Turbo guide by Gamepro on sale in a supermarket while I was on vacation with my family. Before I read that guide, fighting games seemed so deep and impossible to be good at, but that guide spelled out everything nicely for me. I never really stopped playing after that.
-I’m not really good at ANY fighting game, but I’m best at Third Strike(Ryu, Chun), Turbo(Ryu,Guile, Gief) and Super Turbo(Guile, Claw) and I think I’m pretty good at Fatal Fury Special(Jubei), but I can’t find any competition.

-20/Male/Black (West Indian/Carribean/Norwegian)
-World Warrior
-I didn’t take it seriously until like the 10th-12th time my homeboy whipped my ass and sandbagged. Furthermore, some guy playing Storm/Gambit beat me at XvSF @ Cici’s pizza and tried to make himself sound so elite. I hated his voice so I decided to shut him up once and for all.
-It doesn’t matter. uhhh–Vampire/3S/KOF98/MvC1-2/VF/GGAC…I hate KOF 2k2.

21/Male/Negroid
-World Warrior at the local liquor store
-Got whooped by my cousin (who is 3 years my senior) for about 5 years straight, but I always came back for more. When fighting games are concerned, you’re only as good as the last person you’ve beaten, and I love that.
-VF5, T5:DR, 3S, CVS2,ST, Learning KOF XI

-19. Black
-Either SF2(how I loved the sound of HADOUKEN!!! when I was a wee lad)or Mortal Kombat 1…
-I had been playing games for a while like VF on Sega and KI and MK,SS,KOF and SF back in the day. Later I played DOA2 and VF4 and Soul Calibur 1, Tekken 3/tag/4, CVSpro/2. I played some Xmen game in the Arcades… anyway I had found Guilty Gear and played it for a while. Later I got Tekken 5, VF evo,KOF MI2, KOF03,KOFXI, melty blood, soul calibur 2,HNK. Then I found romancancel . com and discovered Dustloop which led me to a world that I never knew existed. The world of fighting games. When I got GGXXS I decided to learn FRC and RC. Went AC came I further stepped it up. Even before that every game I played I loved. I wanted to master them all. In every game I found somebody that I liked, especially if they used fire. It was amazing. I started watching matches, signed up on forums. Because of fighting games I found the career I wanted. I wanted to create my own fighting games. I collect them for research. Play them to study and understand. I’m dying to go to tournies to get better. And WHAT DO KNOW THAT CAN KEEP YOU HAPPY FOR SO LONG? I loved watching matches, discussing strats, looking for my mains. But it was the matches man. Have you seen GG and Sf3 at high level play? I want to be like those guys. It’s amazing. And that’s why I started to play comp. But I can’t find any comp around Miramar:sad:…
I don’t think I’m good at any of the games I play but I still wanna get better:
-Faves: Guilty Gear XXAC,VF 4 evo,KOF MI:RA.
When SF HD comes out I’ll be playing that unless no one wants to fight Akuma…

  • 29 Male, New Zealand European
  • World Warrior back in 92’ That’s if you don’t count beat em ups. (Kung Fu, Double Dragon etc)
  • I was totally blown away by the artwork and the gritty feel of the game. And I also loved the mindgame aspect.
  • Hmmmmm… I’d only call myself intermediate at best. Capcom Vs SNK2 Dhalsim, Dictator, Ryu. Third Strike Urien/Makato

-18, male, rhode island
-mortal kombat 2, street fighter champion edition
-i use to go to the local arcade and go to NH to wears beach… my dad use to have to come with me because he was scared one of the older kids was gona beat me up (i was 6 or 7 at the time)… i had to stack like 1 stools on top of each other just to play
-Street Fighter 3: 3s [yun]

Starting to learn: Guilty Gear XX: AC [slayer, sol], VF 4 Evo [Kage, Akira, Goh], Mvc2 [MSP], cvs2 [K: Geese, Cammy, Sagat]

  • 16, Male, Canadian

  • Fist of the North Star for the Gameboy. If that doesn’t count as a fighting game, then Mortal Kombat II for the Genesis. If that doesn’t count as a fighting game, then Super Street Fighter 2 for the Genesis.

  • What got me interested was Sirlin’s Playing to Win article was posted in a forum I read during my “Influenceable teenager years”. Kaillera made sure it didn’t die quickly. The whole competitive aspect of fighting games kept me going. Fighting - Pain = Fun with no regrets.

  • Super Turbo, SFA2 (mostly because of GGPO and it’s pure and utter beastings of everything else); Ryu, Ken, Rose, Chun, Ryu.

  • 25 M Chinese
  • Street Fighter II World Warrior in arcade
  • Older brother was a big SF fanatic and always had to take me to the arcade with him so I figured instead of just watching him play to play as well
  • Tekken 5 DR : Jack-5, CvS2 : K Sagat, Blanka, Zangief, SFIII3S : Yang

23, male, dominica/grenada/chinese/pakistani

some old nes fighting game that required you to dodge enviromental dangers like an annoyed woman in her nighty throwing plant pots from her window ledge, while fighting.

if anyone knows the name pm me please.

im playing sc3 right now, soul of raphael (Cane preferably) is my fav if against stronger fighters. aint seen any match vids on our level

  • 24 Male African American
  • Street Fighter II in '91 or '92 at my cousin’s place
  • My cousin used to beat the pulp outta me, so I played to beat him and I did!
I just play simply because it’s fun and I wanna get better at it.
  • Don’t really have a favorite. That’ll change when STHD comes out! I’ll probably use
    Ryu the most.
  • 18, male, Irish-Russian-Mongorian?-American
  • Mortal Kombat 1. I liked seeing a ninja rip someone’s head off, spine included.
  • Vega (claw) in SSF2T, Akuma/Ken in SFIII3S, Mai in Fatal Fury Special, Wolverine/Cyclops in every non MvC2 Marvel game (my Dreamcast is long dead and I don’t feel like paying $80 for the inferior PS2 version)

28 m irish/native american
karate champ

ive been playing since karate champ on nes
easiest way to beat people up without gettin in trouble for it

i play every fighter that u can think of

  • 25/M/USA
  • Technically Karate Champ at a local pizzaria circa 1987ish/for this ill say SF1 in a savannah, GA arcade
  • watching those older than me gain massive amounts of respect from their fellow gamers
  • mvc2(MCP)
  • 22/M/U.S.A.
  • Super Street Fighter II: The New Challengers at the local Peter Piper Pizza Arcade in the early 90’s.
  • The various unique characters are what bring me back to fighting games. Games with characters that all look the same just don’t do it for me, and I like nothing more than to pick my one character, absolutely master them, and then go from there.
  • Street Fighter Alpha 3 - Vega
  • 16, M, Filipino
  • Tekken 2 in 1995
  • Influenced by my grandpa who always took me to the arcade and still does to this day. I was amazed by all the people that waited in line to play Tekken and Virtua Fighter against eachother when it came out and when I tried, I would get my little ass handed to me.[I used Jun and Pai, I thought they was hot]
  • Dead or Alive 4 - Lei-fang

My gaming profile

  • Age 27, male African American.

  • Street Fighter 2 (SNES) Northern Va 1980’s

-because I just saw them once and it looked good so I played it and liked it

  • GGXX, MvC2, VF, CvS2, SC: GG(Dizzy, Sol, Justice, Axl Low, May); MvC2(Spiderman, Guile, Jin, Megaman, Blackheart); VF (Pai Chan, Vanessa), CvS2(Kyo, Iori, Terry), SC (Xianghua)
