"You wanna get choked?!" Movelist/Combo Thread (Updated: AE changes)

In preparation for AE, here are the “optimal” damage punish combos based on meter and corner positioning. This post is for me as much as anyone, to reference in the future. I think, in AE, meter management and max damage punishers are half the battle. I took into account EX Hayate’s damage increasing to 120. I’m calculating this crap by hand, so don’t worry about some missing meter usage or stun … I’m a lazy fellow.

Note: everything involving FA2 applies to FA3, just add 60 damage, 50 stun, and 20 meter.

No meter, no corner, FA2:
FA2, IA MK Tsurugi, s.HP xx HP Hayate. 282 damage, 474 stun, 138 meter.
FA2, HP Fukiage JC HK Tsurugi. 265 damage, 418 stun, 100 meter. Possibly the new meterless FA2 BnB, considering it’s so easy to accidentally juggle someone after an FA2 with the Tsurugi.

1 meter, no corner, FA2:
FA2, HP Fukiage, HP Fukiage, EX Tsurugi. 326 damage, 522 stun. This is the new 1 meter FA2 BnB for max damage.
FA2, HP Fukiage JC MK Tsurugi, EX Hayate. 302 damage, 466 stun. Arguably as useful, since you get a better setup and corner your opponent more for a slight loss of damage and stun.

2 meters, no corner, FA2:
FA2, EX Fukiage, HP Fukiage, EX Tsurugi. 358 damage, 554 stun. Can realistically be worth it if it will kill (and the 1 meter alternative doesn’t) or will put them within chip damage away from death. After all, we’ve all ended combos with EX Oroshi instead of a Hayate to take the last pixel of life left.

3 meters, no corner, FA2:
FA2, EX Fukiage, EX Fukiage, EX Tsurugi. 386 damage, 582 stun. Not recommended, but your most damaging option without Ultra.

4 meters, no corner, FA2:
FA2, IA MK Tsurugi, s.HP xx HP Hayate xx Super, s.HP xx HP Hayate. 387 damage. Not recommended unless you will kill someone with this.

No meter, in corner, FA2:
FA2, HP Fukiage, neutral jumping HP. 230 damage, 453 stun, 114 meter. I consider this optimal because of the extremely good risk vs. reward afterward.
FA2, IA MK Tsurugi, s.HP xx HP Hayate for max damage when killing them is possible.

1 meter, in corner, FA2:
FA2, IA MK Tsurugi, s.HP xx EX Hayate, LP Fukiage. 338 damage, 572 stun. For me, it’s good to know this does the most bang for your buck for one meter.

2 meters or more, in corner, FA2:
FA2, IA MK Tsurugi, s.HP xx EX Hayate, LP Fukiage, EX Tsurugi. 402 damage, 650 stun. This is AE Makoto, my friends. Do not use anything but this unless you have Ultra or less than 2 meters. Doing a max damage Super combo from an FA without an Ultra does LESS than this.

Any meter, no corner, standard punish of a blocked move hasn’t changed from SSF4, except for EX Hayate doing the same amount of damage as EX Oroshi and now your goal is to aim for corner placement.

1 meter, corner, standard punish:
s.HP xx HC, s.MP xx EX Hayate, LP Fukiage. 306 damage, 532 stun.
s.HP xx EX Hayate, LP Fukiage. 280 damage, 478 stun.
c.MP xx EX Hayate, LP Fukiage. 260 damage, 378 stun.

2 meters, corner, standard punish:
s.HP xx HC, s.MP xx EX Hayate, LP Fukiage, EX Tsurugi. 402 damage, 664 stun.
s.HP xx EX Hayate, LP Fukiage, EX Tsurugi. 392 damage, 632 stun. The gap of damage and stun narrows wildly here, consider well if the 1 frame link is worth the 10 damage and 32 stun.

Stun combos, one meter (this is all assuming the opponent is cornered, and we must start at one meter, otherwise it’s the same as SSF4 in terms of efficiency):
FA3, IA MK Tsurugi, s.HP xx EX Hayate, LP Fukiage. 398 damage, 622 stun. It’s always ideal to go for this over the meterless alternative unless the meterless alternative will kill your opponent.
Fully charged HP Hayate, LP Fukiage, EX Tsurugi. 398 damage, 516 stun. Good mainly for style points, but there is one very small incentive to this: it’s the quickest way to kill someone stunned and low on health while needing 398 damage.

Stun combo with two meters:
FA3, IA MK Tsurugi, s.HP xx EX Hayate, LP Fukiage, EX Tsurugi. 462 damage, 700 stun. If you don’t have Ultra, this is the end all, be all combo. Nothing will outdamage this after a stun.

from what i tested in Super doing 2 EX Fukiages in a combo is a waste of meter, you should only do 1 EX Fuki & it has to be the first one cause the second hit scales really badly, but 1 EX Fuki does seem worth it to me

where i think i missed it :frowning:

@robot makoto:
did you test:
FAlvl2 -> MP oroshi -> stMP -> etc
it maybe does more damage

@munchi:

thanks! i have seen these vids i just havent been able to test it with everyone that it works on…and i didnt know that same set up worked on fei also. thats sweet!

hmmn maybe Im missing it but I didnt see any unblockable tsurugis in there. Tsurugi is the axe kick right? The cross up axe kick is possible on most characters I think, you just have to adjust your spacing accordingly. They beat reversals if done correctly.

I have some of the ublockables recorded but I had the hud turned off some of them are without sound as I felt too lazy to connect it.
Usually I go back and re-record them w/ the hud on but I didnt do it since I thought they were already shown. I could upload them but really it looks just like the cross up visually so you probably wont see anything different except for the spacing/timing.

This is assuming you can get two s.MPs after MP Oroshi, which I THINK you can on certain characters. Otherwise, MP Oroshi has no point over MK Tsurugi.

FA2, MP Oroshi, s.MP, s.MP xx EX Hayate does 298 damage and 515 stun.
FA2, MP Oroshi, s.MP, s.MP xx EX Hayate, LP Fukiage does 338 damage and 579 stun.
FA2, MP Oroshi, s.MP, s.MP xx EX Hayate, LP Fukiage, EX Tsurugi does 386 damage and 645 stun.

Compared to alternatives, the only worthwhile one is the second, stopping at LP Fukiage. Even then, it does the same amount of damage as FA2, IA MK Tsurugi, s.HP xx EX Hayate, LP Fukiage, with 7 more stun. In terms of meter, the FA2, IA MK Tsurugi combo costs 126 meter after all is said and done, and builds 104 before the EX Hayate (when the meter built is needed). The FA2, MP Oroshi costs 118 meter after all is said and done, and builds 116 before the EX Hayate.

I wouldn’t consider the FA2, MP Oroshi “optimal” considering you gain 7 stun and 8 meter at the cost of two 1-frame links. Even if you land it 19/20 times, the detriments of dropping it 1/20 or more times outweigh the benefits.

Thanks for putting all the time in to calculate these Robot Makoto.

I was mostly just curious to see what was best for one meter in the corner, and I wanted to find out Fukiage comparisons to current damage potential. More led to more, and I figured I might as well post it instead of writing it down somewhere.

i’ve written somehwere in the strategy thread that some of those setup are unblockable.
For example, against Claw, or gouken. (dont remember the exact list).
edit:
here it comes (11 april):

@robot makoto:
thx for your numbers!!

By the way … didn’t anyone notice one of her changes … “EX Tsurugi will be done very low to the ground” … i wonder if it’s possible to do IA MK Tsurugi and then ex tsurugi … or something like that … there will probably be a combo with it … last time i checked ex tsurugi does a sh*t ton of damage lol :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

As far as i see the thing, the only utility of EX tsurugi close to the ground is to do it just before landing (to bait techthrow), and not as IA.

Well in super it falls straight down i think … without any delay … i wonder if that will be changed … i dont know … havent seen anyone using it yet :xeye:

Too much start-up on EX Tsurugi for it to combo off of even a counter-hit MK Tsurugi. Besides, s.HP xx HP Hayate or whatever outdamages EX Tsurugi.

EX Tsurugi’s mainly good for beating AAs and being used in Fukiage combos.

I haven’t read through the entire thread but I just want to know if this thread has a list of characters that EX Hayate > LP Fukiage works on in AE version. Or does it just work on everyone now?
I’d also like to say that these threads are really helpful. :slight_smile:

it works on everybody now.

Mmmm, fresh account in preparation for AE.
