You May Be of Some Use to Me: The Dr Doom Team thread

I’m planning to run Task/Doom/X and I need help with picking up the third character for my team. I would really like to pick someone from new cast of characters. Also which assists should I use in given setup?

Dr. Doom is the only character that fits in every team. My team is Chris/Ryu/Doom but I want to change my team but I don’t want scrubby Wesker or any DMC characters. Im still in the lab testing things out so it will take a little while.

My current team is Deadpool Tasky Doom (hidden missiles). It is a strictly annoying keepaway team.
The problem is that Doom is by far my best character on point and I usually use him for barely 20 seconds a match and that point he has x-factor and meters so I end up resorting to random supers.
What is the best team for Doom either on point or second for a team?
Characters I’m good with include:
Deadpool, Taskmaster, Ghost Rider, Sentinel, Spencer
Characters I’m okay with include:
Arthur, Hawkeye Storm, Thor, Super Skrull, X-23, Dormammu
Any characters are fine to list for a Doom point team, but these characters reference my style of play. Should I put in the work to get good with Strider since he is Doom’s best assist? Or would a team with the characters I listed suffice?

Strider isn’t Doom’s best assist. Strider is good at killing keepaway like Morrigan, Trish, and Zero. He is great at that. Unlike most characters though Doom has hidden missiles which shut that stuff down most times.
Doom on point will always need a lockdown assist. Cold Star, Jam Session, Drones, things like that. I’m sure I’m missing some from the new cast.

Doom’s assist is so good he makes a strong case for being second. So a good point character + Doom + Drones is a good formula. Swap Drones for other characters you like with a lockdown assist.

Doom on point is pretty much the same but you need a character that plays well without a Doom assist.

Yeah I wanted to take my comment back about strider and mention them drones…
I probably gonna make a Doom Dorm Sent team or Doom Tasky Sent team. Those sound like really viable teams.

thinking of trying zero/doom/ammy. with hidden missiles assist for extended zero combos. think this team will work?

I agree with everything you said, but I want to point something out. Strider is one of Doom’s best assist for a simple reason. If you catch someone pressing buttons in the air, it cause HARD KNOCKDOWN. Any assist that causes hard knockdown is pretty retarded for doom, because you can just tridash in and have your way with them. I use spencer h. grapple for this reason. I would pick strider to fill that role, but he has less synergy on my team than spencer. But hard knockdowns in this game are godlike. That’s why they changed haggar’s assist, that’s why they changed zero’s buster. The assist on its own is already godlike, but the fact that it causes hard knockdown when ppl press buttons in the air (which will be most of the time if you zone well), Strider is one of doom’s best assist if not THE best. Using that assist correctly and having that assist available creates a psuedo lockdown.

Im lookin to run doom with some combination of vergil wesker and hulk. Any recommendations on which characters and assists work well together?

I like the description of Strider assist as pseudo lockdown. I’ve been playing Strider on point when I pick him. I will try an anchor Strider next I play.

The problem I see is the pseudo part. If you attack with Doom while they go for something invincible (Haggar Assist/iron fist/DP/Level3) you have no warning and no way to avoid it. Strider is not going to combo break in that situation, I suspect. Will have to play it out and see if its as bad as all that.

I love how the new Strider/Doom/Sent can be played in any order and it works. Sentinel is actually scary with Strider/Doom as assists. Genuine Left/right mixups from Strider, beams or missiles from Doom, and anti keepaway with strider again. If Sentinel had health he would be playable. The assist is too good to risk losing early on.

Not many assists would be able to combo break anymore in that situation tho either way, and in my opinion, that only makes sense because if assists can stuff invincible moves like what you mentioned, that would be kind of silly. Assists off the top of my head that would do that have already been changed so that it won’t. At least with strider, happy birthday’ing is a tad bit harder than other assists since the window is smaller.

I agree that Doom can be played in any order, and I often find myself constantly wanting to change my team order because of exactly what you said. I compensate for this be doing TAC combos more often. You’d be surprised how effective these are especially with doom TAC combo ridiculousness. Taking away a meter from your opponent can cripple their ability to kill a character or suddenly gaining a meter is pretty sweet so you can feed your level 3’s. Plus with your team specifically, sentinel has pretty awesome TAC combos.

I been messing around and found out that i really like Zero/Hsien-ko/Doom in a team but I’m trying to decide on the Hidden Missiles or the Plasma Beam assist. But what do you guys think?

Half-decent dooms don’t spam footdives to get in either.
it’s suitable advice given the situation.

I also need help deciding an assist; I’ve got X-23 (Ankle Slice) / Nova (Centurion Rush) / Doom (Molecular Shield)

I might change it to the Plasma Beam, thoughts? (Also am considering changing Nova assist to Nova Strike if need be)

Ive been ripping Ryu/Doom/Stryder. Hidden missiles help keep guys locked down for ryu to get in there. And although Ryu can take advantage of the hardknockdown from stryder. The main point of the team is to do as much damage as possible and battery until level 3 Xfacto Stryder Ouroborous…

Pretty crazy team. Plus, now that Ryu can combo after his overhead, makes him very tricky using tastu crossups and overheads.

Regarding the order of Wesker/Dormammu/Doom, do you think it’s wise to switch the order of Doom and Wesker since XF3 Wesker is scarier than XF3 Doom?

Wesker benefits from a beam assist more than Doom does gunshot assist. You can always DHC Doom in and leave Wesker in the back at the end.

i would say dorm/wesker/doom.

That’s interesting, because of those three, Dormammu is my best character. Though him on point against hardcore rushdown can be annoying and he doesn’t build meter as fast as Wesker does. Of course, I can still extend combos for more damage & meter with the assists.

I want to run a team with Doctor Doom and Hawkeye together. Any suggestions for a third character? I’m currently using [Doctor Doom, Spencer, Hawkeye] since Spencer has that hard knockdown assist.

Depends on who you want to run first. I’m running a lame out side team of Hawkeye (straight arrows)/ Morrigan (harmonizer)/ Doom (missiles). Of course this is a lame out style team that basically plays to give Hawkeye a way to build meter even if he’s not hitting the person like in MVC2. It also gives him a combo breaker out of combos just incase someone closes the gap and hits him through the hidden missiles.

Team is pretty simple from the front. Press s.H+morrigan assist then do one of his qcf arrow specials. Throw out another s.H to arrow special. Then when assist is recharged either call hidden missiles if they start to close or if they’re still far out call Morrigan assist again and you basically got 2 meters already for doing not much more than throwing out 4 special moves. I hear OTG missiles also gives Hawkeye some nice combo options from full screen or if he throws you. Long as you’re fine with Doom not being the point guy this is a great team. I love Doom’s assists way too much so I always have to have him as anchor. I love his ability to dash through advance guards and be able to kill people with or without XF as anchor also.
