You May Be of Some Use to Me: The Dr Doom Team thread

Rocks is the worst of the 3 IMO. It’s still one of the better assists of the game but you just can’t get it out on screen often enough due to the slow speed it travels and in general it’s just not scary like it used to be in MVC2. Plasma beam or Missiles clearly outperform it.

I think it ultimately depends on what team you main with Doom. I rock Doom/ Wolverine/ Akuma and I prefer Rocks over the other two assist Doom has. I’ve experimented with all of his assist and found better results with Molecular Shield then the others. With teleport, demon flip, and/or berserker slash it becomes a great mixup tool especially while in block strings.

So i’ve been using Viper with Doom hidden missiles, I’m trying to figure out, who of the new cast would work with hidden missiles to fill that third spot?

I don’t like Viper with hidden missiles. Doom is vulnerable for a long time with that assist and Viper doesn’t seem like a character that can protect him well enough. Missiles are best when used with a character that can play keepaway IMO. Maybe you could use Hawkeye/Taskmaster and use horizontal arrows. Call the arrows assist when Viper is on point and then call Missiles when Hawkeye/Taskmaster is on point.

seismo lock-down and mid-screen relaunches with missiles is the shit!

viper is one of the best characters in the game for protecting assists? not sure how she is in any way bad with an invincible super, ex moves that are invincible for 15 frames, and rapid fire seismos all of which can be hit confirmed off of with missiles coming down

Raccoon/Hawkeye/Doom WE IN THERE

ok my friend uses dr. doom and just uses footdive to get in and it’s irritating the fuck out of me because i don’t know what to do about it

how can i punish or what can i do about dr doom in general?

cause that footdive to whiff and he has a problem.

You can also air throw Doom out of foot dive. Ammy player I play against does it to me all the time, it’s pretty annoying :x

Currently running Storm/Strider/Doom with beam assist. Doom beam just helps storm and strider get in so well its amazing. Striders assist also complements doom in some combos so asside from DHC issues (striders lvl 1 can be a mess to work with :() the team flows pretty well

I’m running Hulk / Thor / Doom at the moment. My Doom needs a lot of work though as I didn’t play him in vanilla. With the buffs to Hulk and Thor though its still working well enough and people rarely get to face Doom. It’s early in the series but had trouble figuring out how to deal with Ghost Rider, and Dante still gives the team a hard time if not very careful. Virgil is tough but doesn’t seem as bad, might just be too early for him though.

I’m looking to remake my team but want to keep doom in it. I probably will end up using him on point. I’m not sure who else to use. I’ve been looking at dormamu for a while but never got to trying him out and I’ve always used wesker since day 1 vanilla. Not sure if I want wesker on the team though.

Would dorm be good as a 2nd slot? I’ve heard a lot of good things about doom+dorm.

if you are using dr strange, u want him to use bolts of balthzack… the assist appears way in the back, and the green lasers come out fairly quick and stay on the screen for quite some time allowing doom to get his mix up in (like coldstar).

i’ve been very happy with captain america (shield slash)/Dr strange (bolts of ballthsack)/ Doctor Doom (hidden missiles).

its weird for me though, I really suck with dr strange, but I typically dhc out of cap into strange, and just play it out for a bit, usuallly strange dies and i never really get to use his assist.

can’t like half the cast duck the bolts though, or am I imagining things?

Yeah. That’s actually an advantage, to a certain extent. If they duck to avoid it, they’re free to overheads. Granted that means you can’t quite use it to pressure from full screen as much as you could use say, a Plasma Beam assist, but you do gain mix-up potential instead.

I’m running Dr. Doom/Strider/Akuma. (rocking the all black look)

Doom is pretty beastly in this game, but I’ve found that there tends to be holes here and there. Strider assist helps fix that when you are at range, while Akuma does similar things offensively. DHCs are kind of weak, but honestly most characters are fairly self-sufficient on their own and can do good damage without hyper meter. Also each character has good lvl 3’s that provide new options for them, so I keep it for that.

Any half-decent Doom will flight cancel his foot dive in order to stay safe.
