before the FIGHT message, jump back like a crazy man, then double jump just before the fight begins and block.
this will leave you away from 90% of the grabs anyone would try at this point

Cool. Thanks. The airthrow option is also good, i just air threw a Doom who was trying to get in on me early lol.
Also…anyone here with opinions on how viable an all-zoning/projectile team is in a game like this? Seems like the game primarily rewards in favor of melee/rushdown. Off a single hit a competent player can string together any number of obnoxious combos before his opponent can regain control of his character(w/50%+ life gone). With zoning things are more limited.
Also feels like i have to do 4x the work for the same payoff. When all my opponent has to do is catch my character once for massive damage. Many times i’m dominating a match only to lose in the end because the other player managed to score a hit, which lead to a devastating combo.
Sooo I just heard news that JWong just lost to an Arthur, no idea who though
Guys, get hype for KinderParty! He’s up against Chris G next!
And he lost D:
I think he shoulda went Dark Arthur earlier.
Valiantly, though. But he did lose. :C
I’ll be honest, I’m not a big fan of Ancthur. He’s a chip monster, yes, but if the other player has X-Factor left, then you’re left resorting to rushdown to find an opening. I think KinderParty may have been afraid of that.
Just for theory-chatting, two tactics that I’d like to practice on for that situation are:
My on-point/secondary Arthur game has leveled up again!
Often i used to have trouble at the start of a match. When an opponent would see what character i have, they’d quickly start moving towards me to close the distance at the beginning. I’d try to run away but this would put me in a bad position closer to the corner, and just end badly.
Now if i see them moving towards me, i’ll just run right at them the whole time and as soon as the match starts jump up and try to airthow if they try to meet me. I’ll either get the airthrow, or cause a breakaway, then i can use an assist or burn a meter with Goddess Bracelet to push them back. Then i can start my zoning game.
If they don’t jump I’m left whiffing a lance, but i can still do jumping S to reach the ground. Then call assist for distraction, Goddess bracelet to push them away or both. Hulk is one of the rarity’s to this as he can either go for an airthow or just standing S to knock Arthur down. I just try to react quick to see what he’ll do.
Plus mindgames! Players expect an Arthur to constantly be on the run, so when they see me approaching that makes them think twice as to what i’ve planned. Once got an aggressive looking wesker to start backing up lol.
Also i just trained myself to play a lot calmer. When someone closes the distance i just stay calm, turtle, and pushblock and or Goddess bracelet to push them away. Good for zero or wolverine players who try to stay on you no matter what.
Ok for a little while there i had stopped using the Axe completely, and just throwing lots of air daggers for characters trying to get in on the air. Evidently i underestimated the Axe’s presence.
Even though i don’t think it does that much damage and not too difficult to avoid, its still presents a psychological factor in things. When opponents see it out there it makes them reluctant to try to move in for at least a split second or so, and that makes a lot of difference in how effectively they can close the distance.
Especially for characters like Zero that want to try to fly around the field erratically to create confusion/cross ups, the Axe makes them afraid to spam Zero’s air dash.
Plus when i land i can throw lances after while its still out.
So axes: Still great and effective psychological tool. Daggers are also pretty useful for occupying the airway. Kinda tough to know which to use sometimes.
Also, if Axe hits, it throws your opponent far back… Daggers cannot do this…
If your opponent is all the way in the other side of the screen, use daggers to shut his movement down, if they’re getting closer (about half screen or less) use Axe to push them back when it hits, also it covers much more space than daggers when up close.
Every projectile in Arthur’s arsenal is useful, you just have to find the proper situation to use each one of them.
When an opponent gets close up in the air, it might be a good idea to pepper them with daggers to knock them back. Daggers come out and fly faster. If someone like a ghost rider or hulk is in your face, the axe will come out too slow before they can smash Arthur down, and not do much pushback on a blocked hit.
Axes are great but as a distraction & space filler more than anything i’m thinking.
What about the scythe? And don’t just throw down theoretical stuff on paper. What are some real examples of it being worth a crap in close/long distance battle? Its the only move that does not seem to get a buff from gold armor also.
Seems i’m better to throw lances, heavenly slash, sheild, etc if someone gets close than attempt to make the wonky scythe work.
Well, Scythe is a really weird projectile…
I almost never use it outside of combos, but something that bugs me is that oftentimes when I jump and try to shoot arrows and people teleport behind me making Scythe go out instead, it actually hits… and I always look at the screen without much understanding of what just happened…
I tried to use Scythe in a lot of situations, but couldn’t use it reliably outside of combos just yet.
It’s like a bad Shield Slash…
Maybe could have some use against people trying to rush you down if you jump back and shoot it from far away, dunno if would be any better than just shoot anything else though…
I’ll try to spam it a lot this week just to see what happens, Scythe must have some utility in the neutral game.
Also, I think it goes farther during golden armor, doesn’t it?
It feels like the name of the game right now is that you should be able to switch between zoning and rushdown. Zoning is a lot more viable this time around, but you gotta mix some rushdown in to surprise the opponent.
i run arthur(daggers)strange(giant gold orb) iron man (beam)
this team is awesome for arthur.
-iron mans beam is fast and keeps foes at a distance.
if i see projectiles coming and have two meters i can DHC into strange and power up arthur while countering projectiles.
-arthur can kill on point if i want to (usually save the bars though. im content with you hard tagging to save characters since you will have to deal with dr strange with arthur daggers and a beam. or iron man with xfactor
-with stranges assist i can reset in the corner and go for mixups with arthur.
my tip for arthur players is to stay patient. and be lame. arthur has tons of tools to piss of eager rush down charcters. he only has a few bad matchups.
also use his cross bow! in regular its awesome and fast stuffs alot of moves. in gold armor its crazy and tracks the opponent. abuse it.
Any recent matches that feature a good arthur???
I had an Arthur question for y’all. Does X-Factor make Arthur’s standing M more feasible in matches? His standing M has an autoguard property during its active frames, but due to the attack’s rather slow start-up, timing it to make use of the autoguard is difficult. But I’m thinking that since X-Factor speeds things up, Arthur’s standing M might become more useful.
Anybody try this?
Question that i’m sure has been answered but i can’t find the post regarding it. If i’m down to just arthur and I want to catch them in lance block stun, should i go gold armor, then x factor, or x factor then gold armor?>
does it even matteR? I heard the projectiles are faster if i activate gold armor BEFORE using x factor,
I doubt it since the autoguard frames will also be sped up due to XFactor.
There was a ninja patch that corrected this.
In Vanilla, it was definitely the case that you had powerup before XF for the full speed boost. I clearly remember testing this on Ultimate’s release, and it was unchanged. However, I tested this again last week, and I got full speed boost even if I used XF before gold.
If that’s the case, then it’s very good to hear. I disliked having to use Fire Dragon, XFC, then golden armor only to lose the extra boost because I used XF before the golden armor.
What do you guys do if your in the corner and your in golden armor? I hate the fact that the fire bottle goes over my opponents head. =(
