Well I wouldnt say all his other normals are TERRIBLE. His c.H has great range for a sweep and cancels into S/Hellbound Slash for a combo. c.M is basically just a shorter c.H that comes out faster. s.M’s autoblock property is pretty nifty but not too reliable but I do get it to work sometimes (Screw you Meteor Smash!).
The only button I would say that is his worst would be jab. Short stubby limbs for hit confirming only!
His standing and crouching Ms are fucking terrible. His H’s can’t just be thrown out, and they don’t combo out of j.s. All combos should start with either j.s or c.l.
I have been doing some research regarding the Heavenly Slash. It can punish almost everything on reaction, including:
Bionic Arm
Magneto Gravity Squeeze. At full screen, Heavenly Slash cancelled into Armor or Fireballs.
Magneto Lv1 hyper
Rocket Raccoon Lv3
Morrigan Lv3
Modok hypers (the grab hyper included)
Iron Man lv3
Ammy Divine Instruments
Spiderman hypers
Akuma SRK AA hyper
S.Skrull Inferno and Death Penalty
ground Spell of Vishanti (heavenly slash followed by Goddess Bracelet, if not there will be a trade)
nullify air Spell of vishanti (heavenly slash cancelled into Golden Armor)
Everything Chunli does
Everything Frank does
Vergil Swords power up
nullify Zero Lv3
nullify Hulk Gamma Crush
Wesker Lv3
Among others.
Yeah, Heavenly slash can punish everything, sadly it cannot cancel specials…
so if you’re already throwing something you won’t be able to use Heavenly slash to punish anything.
I’ve seen Arthur’s framedata and it was awful when compared with people with actual good normals, lol.
I also don’t have the bible.
Can anyone confirm the exact invincible frames of heavenly slash? is it on the guide?
Friendlies bro. No I don’t play this game online. And I don’t claim to be any good at this game. Yes I have won a random local tournament set before, but why the fuck does that even matter? Stick to the topic. We’re discussing how tools work and when and why you should be using them.
Don’t tell me that personal experience arguments actually matter. They don’t, because there’s too many pros who are terrible at explaining how to actually play the game and why they win. I’m not saying that pros who are good contributers don’t exist, but they are sure as hell are lot less common than they should be.
Now please stop making irrelevant and offensive assumptions about who I am, and please actually do something productive, and contribute intelligent discussion. That’s one thing you can do that many many pros FAIL to do.
Standing M is pointless outside of combos, but crouching M is super good and you can use it as a poke or punish that confirms into combos simply because the hitbox is so good. And you actually can throw out his Hs constantly. They’re very safe moves when a lot of what people do to counter Arthur is based around countering his projectiles, and his Hs fit into his keepaway game perfectly as either footsie tools or for mobility. Standing H in particular works well as a far anti-air, and is . You should almost be spamming F-H in matchups where the opponent can teleport due to how good of an option it is, either punishing them or their assist (sometimes both!) for teleporting in front of you, or getting you out safely if they teleport behind. The only time I really get a headache with Arthur is when the opponent saves a Beam super X factor combo specifically for killing him. That’s pretty much by far the main counter to Arthur’s playstyle.
Yeah, never use Arthur’s Standing L. The hitbox is just absurdly small. Crouching L at least is a bit disjointed thus giving it a practical hitbox.
Hey I’m currently new to Arthur as of last week. This character is way to fun to play to be ignored. I’ve been lurking the forums for quite a while now and I want to know where to get started with this character. I have Arthur in the anchor position. My team is Zero, Vergil, Arthur. I just have a few questions:
Is there any way of moving around with the charcter besides j.S that I should know about?
How to hit-confirm after j.H or j.S?
Is doing a lvl 3 then XFC a good idea?
Is the Heavenly Slash infinite or the 4 corner relaunches better in XF lvl 3?
When to use Gold Armor?
Those are the questions I have for now. Feel free to let me know any other usefull bits of information about learning the character.
Thanks in advance.
j.S and forward + H are your best bets moving around, j.S is better.
after j.H, do j.S…
after j.S, c.L should do the job to confirm into a combo, during xfactor you can confirm j.S into j.S once.
lv3 then xfactor is a good idea without a doubt. If you’re close you get one free mixup unless they pushblock the first hit of your lv3, if it hits, xfactor will almost always confirm into a kill even in happy birthday situations.
Heavenly slash loop is faster to kill, but golden lance loops are even faster. Xfactor relaunches are unreliable and kills slower, do it if you’re not in golden armor mode.
Golden Armor is heavily situational and matchup dependant.
use it mainly during xfactor (it upgrades the xfactor bonuses to ridiculous levels) but just use it if you’re confident you’ll win during it’s duration or the opponent doesn’t have a reliable self otg, if they do, you’re dead when it breaks, unless you can make them block or get hit by a golden axe by the end of the golden armor duration.
In a few select matchups such as Doom, activating golden armor even without xfactor could be necessary.
Thanks for the reply. This information is very helpful. Would you care to explain why using golden armor without xfactor against doom would be necessary?
Gold armor is completely safe if you have 3 meters and XF available. At end of gold armor timer, do LV3 then XFC. Your opponent will be stuck blocking the dragon and you’ll recover before they do.
Even better, since you were in gold armor when you XFCed, your XF has the gold armor speed bonus (even though you’re naked).
Without golden armor, Arthur loses to Doom both close and long range.
In the ground, there’s nothing (besides super) that Arthur could do to beat Plasma beam.
and the angle of every projectile you’d throw to get Doom in the air just isn’t good enough if he’s trying to lame you.
In golden armor, you overwhelm doom in the long range as Golden Lance and Axe laugh at plasma beam, even daggers will beat it , also, golden arrows plainly beat everything he tries in the air…
So, he’ll absolutely have to come to you or die trying.
