You lack discipline oh foreign knight! The Arthur Thread

AG negates block damage on rapid-fire lances. Most people who know about GA gimmicks take to the air and play defensive until GA runs out.

um…

Merry Christmas fellow Knights!! To arms, our princess needs saving!!!

And a Festivus for the rest of us!

wow…a few days ago had someone in a lobby who just didn’t want to lose to arthur
seemed like he saw it as disrespecting him if i had won with arthur so every time i played against this guy
he wouldn’t give me a chance none at all i believe he even went as far as to snap in arthur because he didn’t want to deal with that later he needed to deal with it now!

There’s a bunch of guys in my play groups that treat my Arthur almost like a Phoenix and snap him in in the first chance they have.

This is respect for Arthur, not the other way around… haha

I love getting my Arthur snapped in only to drop a j.S on them for a free combo into Goddess Bracelet and then either a hard tag or a DHC if their character is almost dead.

I hope that continues. Being underestimated is an important psychological advantage. The more they believe he sucks, the less prepared they are for taking an Axe to the face lol.

So yeah, Arthur= garbage tier. wink

Arthur really isn’t garbage tier
a lot of people can get wrecked by XFLV3 Gold Armor Arthur or even regular arthur if he’s playing a good zoning game

it’s not like hsien-ko so simply playing her puts you at a major disadvantage

He’s the reason I started playing this game. XD

Merry Christmas, indeed, to all fellow knights! Enjoy the season, be close to love ones, and be merry - for tomorrow, we’re back to fighting at tournaments and saving the princess.

When I picked Arthur in Vanilla, I was originally looking for someone to accompany Ryu and Amaterasu, the two who I knew I’d be maining at the beginning. I wanted to play Arthur when I heard he was in the game, although I’d never played Ghosts 'N Goblins (though I’m trying to get through the cheap-as NES game). He is the best written character in this game in my opinion; he is played so straight that he is both hilarious and charismatic.

Then during a painful growing pain period at the start of the game while trying to get the team to mesh, I decided to build it in what way they could all support each other - in this case, I feel I get the most mileage in this sense by putting Arthur on point. I like how it’s working so far, and zoning with Arthur is so “un-Marvel”, so unlike the stream-domineering styles from Dante, Wolverine or Wesker, that it’s probably what keeps me playing the game as much as I do.

I’d love to test my team against some fellow Arthur players. If anyone wants to go a few rounds on the PS3, my ID’s Tautologist. Add me and invite me to a match any time!*

  • = so long as the game I’m playing isn’t Dark Souls

Heres a great playlist I found for you guys, the many versions of the GnG/Arthur theme! Enjoy!

Keep at it bruh. If you’re playing him on point, it’s imperative you get an assist to counter teleporters/super-jumps (Dante Jam, Doom Missiles). Your other assist has to be a lockdown/push-away assist (Sent Drones, Storm Whirlwind or Vergil Rapid Slash). Play cautiously and be wary of beam supers.

The most important part is forming a rehearsed set zoning patterns that optimize assist recovery times and blockstun. Delay your x3 dagger inputs. The longer they’re in blockstun, the more you control them and limit their options, the better you can predict their next move and answer it.

Don’t GA unless you can cover it’s recovery, switching him out, or using XF3.

I’ve been playing Arthur since Vanilla and I’ve found that he’s going to straight-up WIN you as many matches if not more matches, as he will lose for having him on your team. It really does depend on your opponent and if they know what to do against him. A smart player is going to beat Arthur every-time. I mean, Arthur has a bad-match ups against the entire cast…

But there’s where you take the “underestimated” approach and you catch people with him. I’ve beaten my fair share of over-ambitious Dante, Wesker, Doom, etc. fodder that rush in on me and don’t think that I can do anything up close. That’s where you have to be smarter and understand the reach of your c.M and c.H and hell even c.L to get the party started!

…Which brings to another point: assess how the match is going and determine whether or not you want to put your chips in on Arthur. If my opponent blows X-Factor before I do, that’s typically a sign to me to stop using Hypers and save them all for Arthur. Against any opponent you’re going to be at an advantage. Don’t forget how easy it is to land a Arthur’s Lv3 Fire Dragon! That’s the easiest tool against teleporters and people who don’t take Arthur seriously and just rush in on him. Wait until they jump over-head and use it while you’re underneath them. If someone is laming you out while you’ve XF and Lv 3, then I tend to actually just rush-in. Because we all know that once Lv 3 XF GA runs out, you’re in trouble. So just rush in if you’re being lamed out and try to force them into making a mistake that you can turn into Fire Dragon or Goddess Bracelet. Most people don’t know what to do when freaking Arthur is rushing them down! (jump forward and throw bottles!)

And if things aren’t going well, and you’re down to Arthur v 3 and you have no meters, don’t expect a miracle. Arthur does have that great Turnabout factor, but you probably aren’t going to blow up a team of 3 characters unless they are playing very sloppy. He’s easy to lame out if you know what you’re doing. But if you have someone being careless he’s easy to gain the upper hand.

I strongly disagree on Arthur having bad matchups against every character on the cast.

He has even or advantage matchups against almost everyone that isn’t a monster of mobility and hasn’t a beam super (this only if you don’t have meter for fire dragon)…

I can’t see how characters like Iron Fist, She Hulk, Haggar, Tron, Hulk, Frank West and a lot of others with similar projectile and movement options can have advantage on this matchup…
I’m pretty confident in my chances against those characters (and some others) even if Arthur is Naked and xfactor is gone.

If you feel that EVERY matchup is a disadvantage for Arthur, I’m pretty sure you’re doing it wrong.

Realpolitix will you be returning to WNF any time soon?

gotta agree with this arthur isn’t as crappy as people think he doesn’t have bad matches against the entire cast
i believe he has a good shot against anyone as long as you know what you’re doing and manage to control space not to mention good assists to back him up
though i usually save him for last(anchor)because XF3 Golden Armor Is Deadly to any and all characters not only because of his improved projectiles and the overall damage/speed increase but also because Jumping S becomes a nightmare for the opponent at close range and can be hard to react to

Yea, but the thing is, jumping S only works on people who don’t know the match up. If the person just holds upback and saves xfactor for lvl3, what can arthur do since he has no way of converting an air throw by himself into a combo besides landing one snapback or a lvl3??

well… people who jump tend to hit the ground eventually…
in this game, jumps are not instant… if people are holding up back, hit low, and you`re game

which you can do with cr.l out of j.s
