You lack discipline oh foreign knight! The Arthur Thread

Unfortunately, I can only imagine you’re basing this on random online play, and not true tournament experience. My arthur goes up against a lot of decent players, and I can tell you that when I use GA, I generally wind up dead for it.

No tournaments here, just lots and lots of online ranked matches. Many good players on there.

Now if going by tournament-level viability extremes? In that case picking Arthur is just a terrible idea altogether. As much as i like the character and want to prove his worth, he is Low-tier in the end. Unless an Arthur player is godlike, he is going to be fighting an up-hill battle against the majority of characters.

Well, of course. That doesn’t mean you should ignore evolution. A lot of low tier characters RAPE top tiers, and that is in most games. In this game, Arthur puts the worst kind of hurt on Nemesis.

In this case, GOOD PLAYERS, who have the ability to react without lag, will block projectiles and kill you when you hard knockdown yourself, most of whom will do it even with GB pushing them all the way back.

It’s not a good idea. Online rank is crap, and should never be used as a tool for a character’s evolution.

Yes, good players wait out gold armor and kill you. I mostly play online as well, and lobbies are where all the decent players play.

Arthur vs Magneto,

Wearing armor to a fight is a bad idea.

Exactly. Dormammu, Akuma, Storm and Taskmaster can punish from full screen as well (to name a few). It sucks to give up pressure, positioning and health (and possibly the game) when that bar runs out…

Perhaps the majority i’ve happened to encounter online were inexperienced playing against Arthur and didn’t recognize the window of opportunity. And you act as if online are just a bunch of scrubs or something. Online is the new Arcade scene for this millennium, and there are plenty of good, competent players who frequent ranked matching.

Exactly how much it lags though is something i’m wondering about more and more lately.

On this golden armor or not issue, I think this is not exact science…

Golden armor sure is risky, but you’re a lot more powerful with it active, personally, I tend to use it only just during xfactor and it gets me A LOT of wins… Golden armor is the only way Xfactor Arthur becomes really stupid, without golden lances and golden arrows, people will be running away from xfactor arthur much easily…
If they have less than 3 characters once you go into golden armor and pops xfactor 3, chances are you’re winning before Golden Armor breaks even if they counter activate their xfactor as rushdown Arthur backed by his own golden lances is pretty crazy.

Anyway, even if they manage to get away, if you get your opponent with golden axe (blocked or not) by the end of your armor, then you’re safe and won’t be punished when armor breaks.

I do think armor breaking and causing a hard knockdown is pretty stupid… shouldn’t happen this way…
I’d love to see a rechargable golden armor… i.e. if you activate it again during it’s active period, then it remains active and the timer gets maxed out again.

I’ll not advise anyone to activate Golden Armor outside of xfactor though.

^This is wrong. I stopped reading when you said “only way.”

Arthur’s jS might be top 5 moves in the game, and in xfactor, it’s + on block. don’t be free.

j.S is really, really good, that’s perfect.

But without golden armor you’ll have a much harder time getting to a position where you can abuse j.S…

I mean, in golden armor, you have a lot of insanely good projectiles to cover your advance, projectiles that’ll outright kill your opponent if they connect, and put them in a SERIOUS problem if they block.

Your projectiles are nice in normal armor too, but it’s not even near the quality of those same projectiles in golden armor.
If you activate xfactor in regular armor against… let’s say… Trish, and she super jumps back, flies, and places a couple of traps, how would you get to her to abuse j.S if you don’t have golden arrows to limit her mobility? You’d probably never get to her.

chances are, without golden armor, she’ll just run and wait until your xfactor wears off and you’ll not have that much to do about it.

I did not say that xfactor Arthur isn’t stupid without golden armor, what I meant is that is just much stupider with it…
that alone is reason enough to me to risk and activate Golden armor.

No he’s not. Activate gold armor, person starts camping. People can avoid golden arrows, and easily. You’re not playing the right people. Gold armor should only be used to cover a whiff, or blocked heavenly, unless you KNOW you can kill while it’s up. It’s a desperation. It’s pandora; you will die.

If people can avoid golden arrows (sure they can) how are you supposed to catch people without it? As everything else is just even easier to avoid. What do you do with Arthur if you’re losing and they just run away with a high mobility character instead of trying to chase you?

at least, while avoiding golden arrows (and golden armor projectiles in general), they have less options of where to run.

Well, I still think that there’s no absolute rule such as “always activate” or “never activate” as almost anything it’s situational, even if you risk dying by the end of golden armor, sometimes the indiscutible power boost will give you a much better chance at winning at a particular match, I just cannot see it any other way.

Golden arrows are also rather slow. Arrows of steel cover more space, and are much harder to avoid is placed correctly, even at full screen.

Thats true, you can fill the screen with Arrows of Steel rather quickly and easily.

Even though gold armor xfactor arthur has saved me so many times, I have to say, to an intelligent opponent, it might not be the best option. Say that its arthurvs3 members of the other team … say that arthur takes around 5 seconds to kill the 1st character& wait until the next one comes out. If they use xflvl2, they’ll have enough time to negate any kind of chip damage and by the time their’s run out, arthur may have at most 5 seconds left. Now, arthur’s biggest offensive tool is his jumping S . If the person just holds upback, arthur’s gonna be in trouble. His overhead wont work, because they’re blocking high, and by the time you get a cr.L, more times than not, they’re in the air again. If you go for air throw, since they’re in the air most of the time, and if you get it, since smart players can recognize when an air throw is coming ,arthur has almost no options to combo after it without an assist. I dont think his fire bottle comes out fast enough, and his j.S doesnt pop them in the air. you can level 3 after it, but that uses valuable time that arthur can’t afford to spend in gold armor. And if they save their xfactorlvl3 for their anchor, who almost always seems to be dark wesker nowadays in tournaments … you’re done. otg gun, death.

Thanks for the links! I really need to use Heavenly Slash more - been using Gold Armor as a reversal when I could be doing the slash instead. Liking the x-factor dp loop kill as well, seems to be much better than the loop with the fire bottle.

Heard a rumor that Arthur DLC costume is delayed till March! tears

'Tis the only costume pack i planned on buying.

Well its just a rumor right?

I don’t know. Could be true. I heard it had to do with Magneto’s costume somehow being…controversial.

Eh i thought it was kinda lame anyway. Foreign Diplomat mags? C’mon they could cook up something cooler than that. The Sentry anyone?

Yeah Arthur/Hulk and whoever else costume pack delayed until March.

I think Golden Armor is highly matchup and situation dependent. Against characters with good runaway and mobility it’s not as good, also against opponents who also have lv3 XF still they can negate the chip and camp you all day. Against turtley opponents in general it’s not a great idea, unless they are out of XF and you think you can chip them to death.

It still has it’s place though. Without the opponent having XF, Arthur can chip them out all day. Even with XF, lv3XFGA Arthur means the opponent can’t do much else other than camp, or they risk getting fucked with a gold lance. That means they have to be careful throwing projectiles, calling assists, and generally doing anything else other than blocking. This makes it good against characters with poor mobility, characters reliant on projectiles for spacing and control, assist killing and anyone without XF and mobility to save them from chip. It also makes a great stall tool, especially in matches that come down to the last 15-20 seconds or so and you have a life lead.

Also, I’m basing this mostly off of running Arthur on anchor. As a point or secondary character I really don’t think GA is as useful. I typically don’t break out GA unless I think it can win me the match by chip/damage/time out before it breaks.

Also, I haven’t played Arthur as much in Ultimate as I did in Vanilla. I’m still getting used to using j.:s:. How are you guys implementing it into your game? I’ve been using it as an instant overhead but that’s about it.

It also seems that the hitstun on scythe isn’t as good. My air to air j.:h: xx scythe, j.:m::h: xx scythe combos don’t work the same anymore.

As far as combos, are the BnB’s the same or is there anything new with the new properties of j.:s:. I’ve just been doing sj.MMHS OTG bottle, scythe, f+H, S relaunch. What’s the best timing on this now and are the axe/slash relaunches more reliable now?
