What determines how you arc when throwing daggers in the air? Sometimes I arc backwards (as I intend to) and sometimes I arc forwards (into an enemy combo).
>good sentinels don’t spam spit/assists.
A good sentinel is always going to be near you putting you in his 50/50 high/low mixup which always lead to bug damage.
Arthur needs his golden armor for this one. Homing arrows > Sentinel
when will people realize it’s not spam!!!
i asked someone what kind of character arthur was and all he could respond with was this “Arthur’s A Fighter!” and i said have you ever seen anyone rushdown with arthur?
and he said the most used comeback line “We’re Not playing with arthur!!!”
honestly if people can’t deal with arthur’s keep away game then they need to shut up and stop whining
My bad, I will generalize that soon so that it covers the actually good Sentinel players, but that tactic it’s used mostly for those scrubby spammers out there and that is like 80% , consider it a tool for us, just in case. Anyway, more info regarding this matter about good Sentinels will be added later to the match-up thread. Thank you for the reminder, cheers!
Has anyone messed around with the DHC damage/stun scaling reset trick with Arthur? Basically there are a handful of hypers in the game that you can DHC into Gold Armor (or other hypers) and the damage and hitstun scaling resets. Used with XFC I imagine arthur can get a kill off of this easily. I’m running Arthur/Hulk/Shulk so I’ll see if I can come up with something.
Is Arthur a really good Hsien Ko assist killer?
It just occurred to me that he probably is whenever he has 3 meters, since his level 3 has like 2 billion frames of invincibility. Can’t he use that to ignore her hyper armored pendulum assist, and kill her in the process? I hate that assist with a passion since my other main characters can’t deal with it at all. I’m hoping just one application of his level 3 will kill her outright. It should especially do it with X-factor running. I figure I may need to x-fac cancel out of a block string anyway since people tend to go on the offensive when they call her.
Anyone have experience with this? Apologies if it’s been mentioned already.
Also, can Arthur still OTG with fire bottle if he’s the last (third) person to end an air exchange combo? Can he OTG fire bottle into his lvl 3? Sometimes air exchange combos leave you last character really far away after the hard knockdown with :s:. I’m a total Arthur noob who hasn’t read any of these threads so again, apologies.
Fire dragon is great for killing assists. I like to bust it out for hard to hit assists so I can hit the assist and the point character.
What is your guys general gameplan if Arthur is your last character? I usually save up lv3XF for him, and gold armor chip the shit out of people. Especially if they don’t have XF. Gold XF lance locks down pretty well, and if they take to the air, crossbow brings them back down.
How do you guys deal with Armor break? Aside from tagging him out. I usually try to get an axe, crossbow or lance out there right as before it breaks to get some breathing room.
Also how do you guys utilize :dp::l: shield? I try to throw it out vs jumpins but I think it might only work vs. grounded attacks. How do you set it up? I’ve been messing around with :f::h: blocked, shield.
I use this a lot whenever I use Storm or Spencer, and the results are pretty amazing.
This trick of damage scaling reset should be learned, just in case because it’s not that hard to pull off and the reward it’s very big.
Arthur can destroy Assists when properly used, but Hsien-Ko it’s just annoying and I mean, seriously, when she does her Rimoukon it’s like people just go offensive like a madman and they mash the assist button always. Hsien-Ko alone it’s just about patience…
Anyway, one solution it’s either chip/rape as much life as you can and try to do a snap back to change the character, this tactic it’s almost useless because these guys tend to only start the match and mash the Rimoukon, but hey, here’s something interesting: She’s very vulnerable on the first frames of her Hyper, so, spam your projectiles in barrages where she has no oppening whatsover to pull off her hyper, and if she does, it will be canceled because one projectile will cancel her animation.
If they manage to pull off the hyper and tag out, then pray that you managed to hit her hard enough to punish her assist. If the opponent never calls her because he’s afraid that you might kill her then rush, snap back, chip her, and repeat until she’s dead for sure.
About Arthur’s Lvl 3 Hyper “For the Princess” Great Magic, Fire Dragon, I’ve tried to punish her with this, but maybe Im too slow, because I only manage to damage her like 50% of her life, maybe Im canceling too slow.
The matchup regarding Hsien-Ko assist and Doctor Doom/Hidden Missiles w/Sentinel Spit should be discussed on the Match up thread, because I’ve received complaints about those matchups specifically.
I try to save my X-Factor and try to chip as much life as possible too, because if I rush with Arthur I tend to drop the combos in mid-air because of his speed boost.
This however can be countered if the opponent just sits in the corner and X-factor to counter the chip damage, if that’s the case…Well, I feel that my chances to win are slim, but hey, it’s not over yet, give it your best, and if you see this, try to rush them, because you have the tools, like the Silver Shield (:dp::l:) for those who like to do low attacks when X-Factored. This will stagger them allowing you for a Goddess’ Bracelet.
Usually when I rush them they will start to move, when they move I start to spam projectiles, hopefully one of them will hit them (Probably the Holy Lance because it does a ton of damage, staggers on counter-hit and you can combo 2 of them and that’s like…65% of life of a “medium” character.
When my armor breaks it’s top priority to get my Silver Armor back, because Arthur it’s very weak when he’s left with his pantaloons only. I usually do an assist to cover him and summon another Armor.
And about the Silver Shield, I made a reference on the match-up thread, specifically for that special move as it has some nice properties and also can be used on a specific style of play with Arthur.
I hope that this info helps, cheers!
As always Ace, your posts are always supremely helpful!
What combo do you use off of the gold armor DHC trick?
Also, I noticed j. is an instant overhead on pretty much everyone crouching. It even hits Ammy ducking. I know tragic posted that combo with j.:s:dagger land j.:s:dagger loop, but it only works on taller characters since the 2nd j. whiffs some characters and the dagger goes over a lot of people. Right now I’ve just been messing with j.:s: if they block the and you delay the :s: it crosses them up. If you hit close to the ground you can link it into c.:l::h::f::h::s:… Was wondering if anyone had any practical applications for this.
Also been using c.:h: and :f::h: > daggers a lot. Decent pushback on block and you can hit confirm into bracelet.
Still having trouble with combos. I was doing c.:h::f::h:, :h: heavenly slash, bottle, scythe, :f::h: :s: :h:crossbow, but it doesnt work on everyone, and I noticed the :h: heavenly slash knocks everyone down differently. Sentinel is knocked down too far to hit with scythe after bottle, Ammy is too close to hit with even the bottle.
Is launch, sj:m::h::s: OTG bottle, scythe, :f::h: relaunch the best combo right now in terms of reliability and damage?
About the DHC Trick, I use this setup (this is with Spencer’s Bionic Maneuvers and Arthur with only his pantaloons), after the animation…:s:, sj, , , :u: cancel, , , :h:, :s:, land, :qcb: :l: (Fire Torch), Goddess’ Bracelet or looping the combo after the first Fire Torch. Also take notes about the Goddess’ Bracelet, as you can also do the “For the Princess” Great Magic, Fire Dragon too for a ton of damage at the cost of 4 meters.
Why I am doing this with Arthur with his pantaloons only?, well, if you do the combo and try to end it with the Golden Fire Torch, it will miss, because I don’t know if it’s only me, but it seems that it’s a little slow on start-up or the trail of fire just misses the grounded character. Nevertheless, if you do this with the Golden Armor, maybe you can try to do the same combo just replacing the Fire Torch with characters that OTG the opponent for the same results.
And about the combos with reliability, I believe that either the one that you mentioned it or the Fire Torch loop ending with the Goddess’ Bracelet are the most reliable.
Now, about the jumping and the jumping :s:…Here’s a nice trick to “hitconfirm” the overhead without exposing yourself too much, just jump, use your overhead and if it hits, try to cancel the hit along the way, not only you will cancel the hit with a projectile, but also you will gain frame advantage as the hit-stun will still be active until you touch the floor, allowing you to use a :l: to hit-confirm a magic series on the ground.
Also if the opponent blocks the hit, and you still managed to cancel it, you can mash the daggers as that will push you back, thus keeping you safe from any harm
I know that it sounds a little messy, but hey, you can try it on the Lab, do a jumping :s: as close to the ground and cancel it before you touch the floor, the frame advantage will still be there and you can pull off another thing. I think that it’s better to learn this because of the lag and delay that both the PSN and the Live has, I mean, if you mess up the overhead you can eat a launcher or a mashed up hyper.
Cheers!
I’m having trouble with Arthur’s 10th mission. I’ve got the most of it down, up until the launcher>mm>double jump>mmhs. usually after the double jump I’m too far above the opponent. any tips?
Try to do it as slow as possible but not that slow or you will drop the entire combo, the idea it’s that after the launcher you must wait a little because if you jump together with the opponent you’ll be very high on the air and you will drop the combo, after the first barrage of air you have to jump cancel immediately and follow up with the :h: and hold on a little to finally end with the :s:. The combo it’s pretty easy, the idea it’s to nail down the timing, if you are still having troubles, try to cut the entire combo in parts, practice each part until you get the main idea and timing on your mind.
Ah…The missions, I hate the ones from Amaterasu, I just can’t nail down the timing on her weapon change…
So immediate jumping :s: then cancel into daggers?
No, not immediate j., it’s j.:s: and canceled into daggers. Probably j.,:s: could work too.
I finished the mission, thanks Ace_Attorney!
I haven’t seen many Arthur players in general, but I wanted to really emphasize how GOOD the Forward Hard attack is.
Not even for just starting combos, use it to cross under aerial opponents. For Arthur, positional advantage is often more important than actually landing hits. The more space Arthur has to retreat, generally the easier it is to play keepaway.
I’m not sure about the frame data for it, but I think at certain spacings it’s safe on block and can be used as a tick throw setup.
i haven’t seen many arthur players either and you know why?
because people whine and complain about keep away so much…
it’s like the community has agreed not to use arthur or something for the most part
People are scrubs. Keepaway is just as legitimate of a strategy as rushdown. Both are extremely gay to deal with when done correctly, though keepaway is probably harder to do at a high level (slightly more dominant at a low level though). I prefer keepaway because I like my matches to actually last a while.
I will use Arthur not only because he fits my playstyle, I LOVE the character and I believe he has a lot of potential. I’m not going to be deluded by the “masses” who think that keepaway requires no skill, when the facts are that WINNING is what requires skill.
on the tournament scene
nobody wants to play arthur because they either view him as a weak character or think he’s just for scrubs
As to what you were saying earlier, I actually kind of like it when people cuss me out for using Arthur. Makes me feel good about myself that I can make random people on the internet rage and throw a tantrum by playing better then them.
As for the tournament scene, honestly, I think the people saying stuff about how the game is balanced/unbalanced, need to just keep in mind that the game has only been out for a month or so, and nobody has really dug deep into what the characters can do yet, maybe.
