Can’t punsih balls while cr. blocking. Weird frame recovery. must be standing.
heres couple matches please let me knjow what ic an do better and what im doing well, please also relize that these are online matches as i dont reallyh attempt hard 1 frame links online, i only do it in vs mode.
me vs yebs fei long, i wish he picked cody!
vs gouken
vs vega
amg his fei long is… well let’s get to the point:
- anti air more with the appropriate tool. namly s.hk could have beaten out a lot of empty jumps.
- u1 vs gouken… really? O_O
- you jump WAY too much. it’s a bad habit which get’s beaten out alot if you play against better players in the future. btw i loled in the gouken match. you jump, he jump, both jump and so on xD looked like the ground is out of LAVA and you lose health if you stay on it for a second xD
- use more mix up! on knock down you seem to use nj.hp like 100%. you’ve to stay ambiguous. if you get predictable, you get punishable. use more meaty f.mp, s.hp, empty jump, overhead, rocks, os, grab or whatsoever.
- dont waste meter on EX CU on block. j.hp, c.hp should give you enough time to realize either hit. tbh, i wouldnt even do it on hit unless it’s important to get a life lead or it kills him etc. cody can spend his meter better.
- you dont seem to charge zonk but ex zonk on wake up. it’s a GREAT tool to have in the sleeves to counter poke or dodge a hadoken or break a focus attack etc
-^and vs Vega YOU ABSOLUTELY HAVE TO KEEP ZONK CHARGED! dont bother with focus his barcelona, just release zonk late and you’ll hit him every time. this also works with u2. bug him with stones and punish his wallxx stuff. - i think in all 3 matches you didnt used a single f.mp (except at the end vs vega), f.hk, f.hp or s.hk. these are great tools and thoughtful used are a great addition to your mixup, offense and defense.
-all in all you back down to early, hence your offensive gets stuck. with above tools and mixup you should try to stay longer in the enemy’s face. with frametraps, f.hk, c.mk, f.mp, f.mp, f.mp, f.mp and… well f.mp xD (like you did vs vega at the end). it rather seems you try to get away just to jump in again.
hope this helps
hm good points, i do use f-mp a lot but i guess not in these matches, i also have been trying to determing when to use it, such as jab f-mp o,r jab jab f-mp i also find using crack kick vs fireballc haracters is extremely hard so i tend not ot use it as much, i just just starting using s hk more in my matches after having some sets last night with my buddys and labbing my cody, i do relize that i do jump a lot lol i can thelp it ! its the truth i dont know i need to change that!!! i also didnt know that about vega with zonk thanks for the tip apprciate it, im learnign each matchup by myself as there isn’t a lot of info about cody somehow, sometimes i beat people with 3000 pp, then i lose with a matchup i have a hard time with with someone with 1000 pp… thats the most frusterating part like im taking a step foward and a leap backwards, i am still labbing but i want to thank you for your tips as i will practice more and post some more matches@!
dont make the mistake to judge a player about their PP / BP. I’ve beaten 19k sagats with ease while got beaten down by a 98bp sakura. BB is a mere “grind” stat. a high PP CAN mean something, but doesnt have to. but it USUALLY indicates an more experienced player (still doesnt mean good!). but a low PP means nothing. many players (including me) just played ranked for a while and stopped shortly afterwards.
This man speaks truth. I hate getting hyped for a high point match and then walk all over him. or vice versa. You must play them and see them in moderation. Don’t doubt yourself but don’t think they are too easy. Don’t believe you’ve won til the points are distributed.
We’ve all seen the comeback vids, the guy in the lead gets cocky. Don’t be that guy. Stay Focused. Stay Solid.

I have a really bad habit of messing up cl.lk OS mk RK
and I’m not sure how to avoid getting hit with reversal thunderknuckle, and reversals in general
what’s the startup on it?
Hey guys, I haven’t had a chance to record any of my matches until recently, but I was able to do a set on a stream at my local tournament in Michigan. My match starts at 14:20, I’m Hokuto Joe, I can see a lot of mistakes I made, but there’s probably a lot more that I am not noticing, thanks guys.

finish your combos once you hit confirm, that’s really all. You had a ton of opportunities to land BnB after landing a cr.jab or cr.fierce, and you would’ve won after landing them since cody hits like a truck. Cody is usually played aggressively, incorporating frame traps and pressure, and I didn’t really see that in your match; work on forcing your opponent into the corner and just keeping the pressure on with your normals. I mean cody can be played defensively, but you didn’t do that either. I noticed that after you threw Hakan in round 2 that you didn’t go for any meaty setup or anything, and that might be tournament jitters or w/e, but never do that, always do something like an ambiguous cross-up attempt, a safe-jump, a meaty t.mp, or something. Also, never throw out a random EX RK, or even rh RK for that matter, not safe on block by any means, I think you were trying to close distance when u used it, but there are so many better ways to do that; rh RK is usually used as an Anti-air or to link into other specials or Ultra 1. Keep at it, though. Check http://shoryuken.com/wiki/index.php/Cody_(SSFIV) for more info on pressure strings, BnB, frame data, what have you

Dropped a couple combos and missed a FADC to U1, but overall im happy with how it played out
I notice you did ex-zonk fadc at least a couple of times. I find it difficult to hit confirm fast enough and tend to fadc after the first hit regardless (which is not so good). Are you actively hit confirming this? nice cody btw
fadc ex zonk has a purpose no matter whether it hits or it is blocked. on hit you get a free followup, on block you just make it save. same as with srk
On block wouldn’t you want to dash back instead of forward?
it’s basically impossible to hit/block confirm that and dash accordingly
Some matches that I have on my channel. I know that I have a long way to go but am in it for the long haul.

Needs more bingo…
Seriously though, full super bar and you use it for EX bingo where you could have easily hitconfirmed into super, every jumpin your opponents do you try to bingo it, which due to startup just gets blocked where a simple back+MP would have hit. (And would be safer, since afaik you got lucky your blocked bingo didn’t get punished hard there lots of times)
On the other hand you won, so who am i to judge =P
Yeah, I use back+mp but sometimes can’t react fast enough. A lot of time I’ll use it to create space or if I think they’ll mash buttons when they land, which’ll hit or trade. I figure that I’ll do stuff until someone stops it. Honestly, I hate using super. I use EX Zonk to escape pressure.
That’s interresting, i find it one of the easiest supers to hitconfirm into, so i would like to know why you hate using it?
cody’s super isn’t “very” useful for various reason:
- in certain mu’s he just need those ex moves
- super doesnt add something “new”, it’s just dmg. some characters have more unique super. also, it’s somewhat slow - so not even a good reversal
- ch hp xx ex rocks is just THE hitconfirming into ultra which does a lot more damage then the super itself
- most important one: super is only useful to “end” a match. if it doesnt kill your opponent it’s wasted to use, because with 4 crispy bars, you can pull off some combos which do NEARLY as much damage but at the same time an incredible amount of stun, maybe even leading to one, and this is much more matchwinning than 20 more dmg.
Basically for reasons that zukuu listed. Sometimes I might need to FADC and burn the meter or use EX Zonk to alleviate pressure since Cody’s wakeup game and backdash are horrible. It also depends on the matchup. If I’m playing Guile…I need bar to EX ruffian through the sonic booms to get in. Just one example.
