"You can do better than that!" Critique my Cody!

@eternal @shin oni ; Awesome. Thanks fellas. I saw Ladnopokaa on the ranking boards and remember his name and I’ve seen BJ around also but the others I never knew about. Appreciate the help guys.

(Using one of my friend’s video)
I’m jank at Cody (and possibly scrubby), but I do know some good stuff…

  • His j.HP can hit confirmed into U2 (Not great combo), but it helped me positioned to the knife so I can use it for knife throw or a jump in.
  • His f+HK can juggle Opponents from Raw or Ruffian H x FADC into EX CU.
  • It sucks that I never use CU often.
  • I’m not great at defense (as seen on video)

Three ranked matches I played I would appreciate some feedback on what to improve thanks. Oh yeah the quality on the youtube upload feature is pretty bad so sorry for that.

Does it let you upload loses? Those opponent were letting you get away with a lot. Nice cody tho

Yeah you can upload losses as well and yeah my opponents were kinda lost thanks.

A match I had against a C. Viper player. Any critique is appreciated. Also weird glitch near the end of the match (2:19)
Sorry for the quality, Ultra is not cooperating with me at the moment with youtube.

@C100 during startup frames on Viper’s close LK her pushbox gets shifted up due to the weird animation and the fact pushboxes are attached to the model. Basically imagine that you are ducking under her legs and getting behind her during the startup frames. It can be done by any character with a lower profile forward dash (Guy, Juri, Cody, Makoto, Adon, Dudley, Ibuki (she can even do it with her LK/MK command dash))

I don’t know the Decapre’s matchup, I had some luck because that Decapre doesn’t block lol. You know what to do against her teleports or we have to block everything on reaction? (PS: The match was a little laggy)

you can focus all her teleport followups. Only the EX followups break focus. You can also hit her out of the teleport animation so it’s not really something people should be spamming. I’ve learned not to try anti-airing her teleport stuff. either go air to air with it or neutral jump and react. Fool around with her in training mode to see what she does.

I don’t think it’s all that bad. People are generally getting away with her being new and most probably not going into training to mess with her or someone playing her in their area.

Psycho Sting(her reversal) is -28 on block, and the pushback is poor. You could’ve gotten at least a c.HP xx HP CU rather than c.lk-punishes when you blocked them.

Also, aside from the EX Cannon Strike, all of her options out of teleport are unsafe afaik. EXCS is plus, but the rest of them gets you free damage. You do have to block them on reaction, but the risk-reward of those moves are definitely in your favor most of the time.

Thanks alot, I’d punished with cr.LK because I didn’t knew that move was so unsafe. lol
I have some other matches to upload, but the number of dropped combos is frustrating haha

Sup guys, could use some critiques on my Cody here. This was from our ranbat a couple weeks ago. The Viper is from TJ and pretty adept at the character, did pretty well at one WNF, beat Valle, Myers etc. But I always felt comfortable in this MU, and used to beat this guy all the time, but lately I’ve had trouble. Anyways, check it out its an exciting match haha

@GrabMasterFlex‌
A couple of things I can spot.

Neutral jump more if he is going crazy. NJ MP can stuff a lot of things and NJ HP can be a good answer to MP TK spam.
crMK more both for approach or wakeup. It gets under MP TK and burn kicks as well as unpunishable since viper has no 3F normals and crMK pushes you out of throw range on block unless done really deep.)

You only did these each one time in the entire set.

Also I didn’t hear the “tink” so you weren’t focus dashing! Remember, sMK~MP focus dash is like an extra 20% distance. Keeps him on his toes since he doesn’t know how far you can dash in from.

Good match! I agree with everything Eternal said.
He would do mp.tk then a normal into mp.tk quite alot, you can blow that up with ruffian reset and punish, gotta be a hard read.
You had quite a few opportunities to land cr.lp > cl.mp > cr.hp too, maybe work on that.
I liked when you got through the meaty-ish siesmo with lk ruffian also, never seen that before.

@Eternal thanks, I’ll try out NJ mp more, as well as crMK, only reason I wasn’t doing it to approach was because I was afraid I’d eat a seismo, but I’ll throw those in there too. Same with kara dash.

@Techtun Towards the end I was trying to bingo in between but they weren’t coming out, so I just went for exCU instead, I’ll have to try ruffian too heh. And that week I was practicing cr. lp - cl. mp - cr. hp combo a bunch and almost never dropped it but for some reason I dropped it a lot that set. I shoulda just gone for cl hp - cr mp instead. :X

Thanks for all the input though ^^

@GrabMasterFlex‌ You don’t wanna do crMK too often as an approach, it’s just AN option to keep in your back pocket. You can do it around the range F+HK would hit but crMK can be a good switch up occasionally as her lower body hurtbox widens a bit during startup and early active frames of Seismo so you can actually tag her from farther than you’d expect.

Also crMK beats MP and HP Thunder Knuckle pretty handedly and will trade with LP TK as long as both moves are active at the same time. LP TK CAN counterhit the crMK startup pretty easily though.

You should watch these to get some good ideas of how the former best Cody player handled viper positioning wise.

Another FT10 against my friend who switched from Sakura to Poison. Two things though…

  1. This set is on PSN (for anyone who played me and wondered why the points were different).
  2. There were some random lag spikes here and there so if you see a simple combo being dropped then there’s your culprit lol.

Added more matches, how was it?

You need to anti-air :stuck_out_tongue:

So what anti-air tools are available to me?
