Yomi: Fighting Card Game by David Sirlin

Yea that was fucking me up for a while to. Only thing trippin me up now is the combo system. I’ll plan a combo and then run out of points before i think i would have.

Each character has a specific number of combo points. Each move takes up a specific number of combo points. It should be listed as dots on the card.

Yea i got it just sometimes i fuck up. I’m good for that.

I like this game, haven’t played in a while because I don’t own it. (It’s pretty expensive)
The different decks/characters are all fun to play to me, I don’t have any preferences just moods as to when i want to play someone.

I won a set of this recently, it’s pretty fun and I feel that the characters seem to be really well balanced for the most part.

Rook seems really weak though. He pretty much has to land an Ace, but that is telegraphed through fetching them and drawing them naturally seems to be too slow. I know his ability is good for trading damage, but it seems like having to rely on that and Stone Wall just seems to be a losing strategy in the long run. He might just be really hard to play. Every other characters seems intuitive to me though, and he just seems to be missing something.

Rook has plenty of viable options aside from landing an Ace attack. You’re right however, that the consensus seems to be that he is a somewhat difficult character to play well, but that doesn’t mean he can’t be played well. Probably one of the top two players of Yomi is a Rook main.

Rooks throws are hella damaging. Like 10 points a piece and he has a ton of health

its mostly Rook’s health that scares me. I usually play as Argagarg

I bought the Yomi full set i want to say 3 months ago and love the game. As far as the rules, I think they are straight foward, but there are some exceptions to they don’t explain ( throw vs throw of same speed?, attack vs. attack of same speed?). I play online when my friends offline are being asses. My mains are Grave and DeGrey (Love his Ace).

The rules do explain what to do when attacks or throws of same speed are against each other. Here’s what happens in my own words:

Attack VS Attack of same speed: You trade hits, like in a fighting game and both of you are damaged (with no combo opportunity), both are discarded as normal

Throw VS Throw of same speed: neither throw works, both are discarded as normal (imagine a game like SF3 or SF4)

So far I really like it. I think the rules are a bit complex for a first timer though. I’ll need some time to get into it. I am still wrapping my head around exactly what’s going on during “combat”. I fell victim to the “staring at the top of the card the enemy is playing” thing too XD.

This ONLINE game is VERY easy to learn.

-All I did was play the tutorial once
-Then quickly read part of the guide about Blocking, Throwing, Attack, Dodge. HALF A PAGE OF READING LOL

Then I was set and could play vs other players. It’s very fun.

You can play for free. They let you choose between 2 free characters every week. If you win games you get gold that you can use to buy PERMANENT access to any char you want.

But each character only costs 5$. I wanted to support these creative guys so I paid 10$ and bought Fishface ( aka Guile!!! ) and Valerie, a very well-made character that is offensive and combo-oriented.

I only played for 2 hours, but I could win some and lose some and had a blast. I saw people in the chat talking about SkullGirls so seems there’s a lot of fighting gamers enjoying Yomi. Only quickly glimpsed at the game’s tier list and it seems extremely well balanced.
