Yomi: Fighting Card Game by David Sirlin

Yomi looks like a lot of fun. Anyone bringing a deck to EVO to teach me?

Why not just learn by playing online?

I’m kind of glad he didn’t, this way he’s free to do basically whatever. Plus, you still get plenty of the classic SF2 characters, anyway, with an added twist (and then some). Ryu + lightning dragons. Guile + ZA WARUDO. Zangief + is a golem with birds on his head. Ken + boobs. Slayer + … well he’s basically just Slayer, but that’s fine with me. The characters are kind of familiar and new at the same time, if that makes sense.

Mostly because I like the tactile feel of playing cards. I’ll probably play it online when I have some free time this weekend, now that I think about it.

I know what you mean. Plus, it’s hard to “yomi” when you can’t see your opponent. It’s like online poker and trying to read a bluff.

I’m curious what you are referring to. What happens? I read his book thing online and it was informative. There’s not much else on the site, but why does stupidity follow Sirlin’s name?

Best not ask. Google search. Keep thread civil.

Anyone interested in playing? I’ve never played before so someone with patience would be best hehehe. I’ve read over the rules and I get the jist of it but if someone wouldn’t mind playing and sort of teaching at the same time that would be sweet.

Usually if you play it online there are at least a few people who are pretty knowledgeable on the game who are willing to help if you ask.

yeah i don’t get it after two games. i keep losing hit points when i think i should be making the other guy lose his.

A friend and myself are playing right now and we’re kind of startin to get it after an hour. If you wanna play join us in out room. It’s
RadiantSilvergun3 and the Password is kokiri

Did you read the rulebook?

The rule books kind of confusing if you ask me.

Eh, I kind of had that too; you just have to read it carefully. Either way, you can always ask questions. Alot of people are more than willing to help out.

Attack beats throws.
Throw beats block or dodges.
Block, or dodge, beats attacks.

If attack vs attack OR throw vs throw is played, then the attack/throw with the fastest start-up wins. Whichever has the “lowest” speed will do damage.

I’d like to call it “startup frames” then it makes more sense that lower number=faster

yea soon as you start thinking about it like a fighting game it makes a lot more sense.

yeah i understood that part…but it didn’t seem to be working like that. I don’t know ill probably pick it up the more i play it

ok i think i get whats messing me up…the side of the card that’s closest to you is what they played. I kept looking at the top side of the card thinking that’s what was played and couldn’t understand why attacks were beating blocks and such.

I would laugh, but I did the exact same thing when I started playing. It’s a mistake you wouldn’t make if you were playing the actual cards, but when you see it on a computer screen…it just makes sense.
