"Yoga noogie that poop." Dhalsim General Discussion

Is Dhalsim’s ultra 2 a grapple move? Also, is it possible to block it or is the only way to escape it is to jump away from it?

It’s a grab, so you can’t block. Just jump away from it.

See the previous four posts for more info.

Learning Sim, I only use S.Fierce. NO OTHER MOVE EXIST.

I do have trouble in corners, Best move to give space in corner til I can teleport out?

Back lk is his best close up move, then back.mk and down back mp.

Most use b.short, b.short, b.forward xx fireball as a semi-blockstring to get some space.

That’s not a tight block string and they can jump the fireball at certain ranges. I wouldn’t recommending using this too much, it’s incredibly easy to mash through it.

thanks for adding me man, how often are you online? We’re both from the UK, so a good connection. =)

Is Gief and T.Hawks bad match-ups for Sim? I really have no trouble with T.Hawk, but Gief can give me trouble.

They bait my Jumping or S.Fierce, or get under it with green hand. I play many giefs often at tournaments and casuals. Best way to keep Gief out?

I usually try to bait the lariat and stay as far away as possible. Like full screen.

Don’t full screen anything. That’s not the rang you want to be at. You want to be just at the tip of st.fierce range so that you can punish lariats and walking forward with it and any jump-in with st.roundhouse. Once they’re in mid range you just have to watch for EX green hand because it’ll blast through everything you’ve got.
I think either ultra is great in this match, I think it’s one of the few that both are just as viable.

Don’t use jumping fierce. Use jumping roundhouse, it beats lariat. Don’t slide in this match. Block and then throw EX green hand.

I actually get a decent amount of mileage out of slide against gief. Aside from the normal uses to escape crossups, rh slide is a decent way to punish whiffed lariats; the hard knockdown lets you reset positioning.

Would anyone want to help me learn to block the Dhalsim fireball/teleport gimmicks? It would be immensely helpful to face different timings of it and well performed meaty setups. In exchange I can show you Abels common mixups so you can identify which setups they are using on you, and which ones are truly meaty and which ones you can escape easier. Or Ibuki vortex stuff if that is more useful to you

LMK, XBL: IceWilly

I will help you once I learn how to block it, myself.

Don’t you just block whatever hits first?

You have to block away from Dhalsim. The goal of the mix-up is to teleport at a time when it’s very difficult to tell if Dhalsim is still on the left or right of you when the fireball hits. If Sim teleports a tad late then the fireball is on the original side and you’d block the mixup in the original “back” direction. If you teleport a tad early then you have to block the opposite direction. If it’s timed properly then you pretty much have to guess.

Woot, as you know EX devil’s reverse is a good way to handle it. Icewilly, you can always try to auto correct EX roll out of it.

I know the theory behind blocking the fireball/crossup, but actually doing it in a match is hard. Basically I need to figure out at what exact point in the teleport animation he actually switches sides. A slow motion video showing exactly when his hitbox goes from one to the other would be amazing. The other thing thats tricky is that sometimes the fireball hits you and pushes you under Dhalsim. (at least when I am playing as abel) It doesn’t appear that they are intending to this (or are they?) but it ruins the fraction of a chance i had to block it to begin with.

Even if someone was semi decent at it and their inconsistency with the execution made it so it was variable, that would be fine. I just want to play a dhalsim that can do it on the regular so I am forced to become VERY familiar with it. In general a Sim sparring partner would be fun for me.

It’s basically Sim 101. Add me and I’ll abuse the shit out of it. A good sim player will automatically update their BnB so that the fireball pushing you under them is another part of the mixup. Honestly… If you can’t react then choose a direction and block it standing or use EX roll.

You may even be able to auto-correct super, ultra 1, or ultra 2 against it. I know bison just has to ultra 2 for free.

I appreciate that and I will definitely add after i come back from my weekend trip.

Prior to that, can you explain the variables of the mixup that you can control and how each one effects the result. IE strength of fireball, time of fireball release, time of teleport, and what specifically causes the fireball to push them under you?

Or if its easier to do so, we can just talk about it on the XBL chat when we play. or if there is a post/reference here that might explain it that would also be useful

Best attack on wakeup, or after a knockdown?
Usually, I will try and tele out or just spam c.lk. If they try to crossup after I get up I slide under, but when I have ultra I’ll usually just mash that out hoping they pressed a button. What is the best way out of the situations?

Can some Sim players add me on XBL: AZAnger
