"Yoga noogie that poop." Dhalsim General Discussion

I’ve always wondered how u dhalsim players manage to short hop and teleport so fast right after jumping, so that u can manage to get behind the player (or in front for that matter) just a lil over the air.

Seriosuly, how do u do that? U just have to be real quick and teleport immediately after jumping or is it something else? :looney:

Thank you!

Im not too sure on this but after watching the vids of others I’d say an easy block string could be something like cr.LP, cr.LP, st.LK, st.MK xx LP Flame, or something along those lines. Sim has no invincible moves other than Teleport, while Flame is Armour Breaking, so use whatever is right for the situation. Also, throws are Armour Breaking as well =).
For footsies I usually use cr. LP or cr. MP, or cr.b.XX, depending on the range. What I normally do when theyre in close is wait until they push themselves back out, then get them when they try get back in. That or wait for a small opening and start spamming st.LK/b.LK etc.
Also, for a new Sim player, learn his anti-airs. Mainly b.HK and b.MP. You can HCB+K (sorry dont know the name) as well, it comes out fast but I think b.MP is easier to pull off anyway.

Tips on executing Ultra

Hi guys,

Im a noob Dhalsim player but im trying to improve and i need your guys help. The thing is that when i try to do is ultra move i always end up doing yoga teleport or sometimes i jump. Its getting really frustrating :wasted:

I do the motion down, towards/down, towards (x2)

Am i doing something wrong? can u guys give me some tips, like the best way to not teleport or jump.
I use a fight stick btw

Cheers

You’re not doing the full motion. Go into training mode and put the inputs on, and look at what you’re doing.

that’s because it’s d,f,d,f

Cheers m8, ill do that

I think the motion include d/f and not only d and f but i’ll check it

tks anyway m8

when u go from down to forward, in between that u are already doing down-forward.

Oh, i thought i had to go d/f too and not only d/f…well now that’s an easy way to do it

Tks man

Can u guys explain me how the grab system works? Can i grab a person immediately after being hit (while defending)? When im defending a poke string and i see that my oponnent wants to grab-me i always try to tech throw is grab but i always fail. Ive seen in videos ppl doing this, can u guys tell me how to succeed or is just about timing?

And other question, every character has a different range to grab right? I know Gief has a ridiculous grab range but while playing im often being thrown from ppl that arent close to me. This happens a lot with shotos, abel and chun li

Any info is appreciated

the reason a lot of times the teleport happens instead of ultra is that a lot of people accidentally do this.
:qcf::d::df::3p::r:

They hit the :3p: just a little too early and the computer thinks you want to teleport because of the :dp::3p: in the middle of that motion. Make sure that you hit that last :r: before you :3p:.

You cant grab immediately, since youre in block stun (cant do anything in block stun). Also with teching throws, its a small window (few frames, dont know exactly how many). I suppose just practice with the timing to get it right. Im pretty sure all grab ranges are the same, its just the tech window is different (apparently, Gouken’s backthrow has a big window to tech?). I think the only reason it seems far is because theyre either kara-throwing (cancelling a move into a throw for the extra range, eg. Kens f.MK) or because its a command throw with heaps of range (Geifs SPD with LP).

so it seems it isnt due to lag then. because i have also noticed this and thought it was awkward and due to lag when there wasn’t any lag at all.

Well, i’ve managed to the ultra now when i wanna, its so easy with the shortcuts, im now practicing BnB combo and its not that hard as it looks

when it comes to throw i always lose lol, i always thought it was about timing though.
Does Dhalsim have a kara-throw?

As far as I know, he doesnt. Its hard to see kara-throws coming, but I think you just have to see when theyre going to do it and press throw. Of course, they could just fake the kara-throw and punish you for whiffing the throw, so it might be better just to take the throw? Not too sure how to fight against kara throwers. Possibly the best way is to stay away like you normally would, with zoning etc.

tks for your reply m8

Cheers

I got the chance to battle Rashaan from NY at a recent tournament. His Dhalsim Vs my Ryu and I was beaten so badly, so easily that I have a new found respect for Dhalsim. Amazing stuff. I’m actually considering learning him as my alternate.

Props to all who main him, because it seems to take a ton of patience.

I’d also like to add that the match of Rashaan (DH) Vs Nestor (SA) was absolutely insane.

edit: I forgot to mention the match was at Digital Mayhem 5/30 tourney in CT.

Sim doesn’t have any great reversal. EX upward yoga flame is good on cross-up happy players, but if you miss you’re pretty open. All of this strech limbs are good pokes, but stick with the weaker ones (st.lk) for footsie and the stronger ones (st.hp st.hk) for punishing whiffs and blocked stuff. Hell you can punish a blanka ball even if he hits you. B.mp is a great anti air for close jump-ins and b.hk is a great anti-air for far jump-ins, but of course it’s a little more complicated than that. There is a good anti-air thread ultradavid set up showing all the different situations and what to use.
As for block strings, Sim has them, but i really don’t see the point. You’re better off waiting for a chance to escape IMO. If anything i’ll do one hit to throw, since Sime has no options on the inside.
