Good shit. This is just too good to be canceled. Damn it fox
Dollhouse
[details=Spoiler]
Jesus fuck, Claire blew Bennett’s brains all over the whole fucking dollhouse. What she shoot her with, a desert eagle with hollow tips? Bennett was looking mad fine in this ep too. She didn’t have to go out like that.[/details]
[details=Spoiler] Alas my negro Boyd, he was insane but absolutely right.
I mean it was obvious from the middle of the episode, but it still broke my heart they had to do him in. And even as the evil mastermind behind it all, he was still my boy, he was right, I don’t see why anyone WOULD like Ballard. And in the end he was right about them needing Echo’s spinal fluid, even though they blew up Rossum HQ along with him.
Meanwhile, they done killed Millie off for real this time, Amy Acker as crazy is so flipping hot.r Enver Gjokaj aka Victor, continues to steal every scene he gets to extend his acting chops in this show, Topher 2.0 = FTW. [/details]
Got to say, I will sort of miss this show, the acting and personalities of most of the supporting characters are damn entertaining. Except Ballard, although I won’t blame actor Tahmoh Penikett (the “What I miss?” line was great), because the character just sucks.
I think why the “Thoughtpocalypse” still happened is because the tech that Topher perfected was immediately stolen and expanded upon elsewhere… aka ALPHA!
And Enver Gjokaj deserves more roles in films as he is a tremendous talent. Tremendous
John Connor would be a real help in the next 2 eps.
[details=Spoiler] Yeah, I don’t know if it was Alpha but Boyd just about said it, once something is out there it can’t be undone.
Without Topher’s help it took a decade to complete, but the technology was out there and obviously wasn’t just restricted to one Rossum building. Although, I do wonder how exactly does Clyde switch out bodies but retain memories? [/details]
Honestly, I can’t help but feel the ending is going to be a let down.
[details=Spoiler] Remember this Clyde is just a construct of the real Clyde built upon on 15 years of Rossum indoctrination. His wedge probably has been grafted and re-grafted over the years to maintain the same persona.
I suspected that Rossum did succeed but in the future I didn’t see any buildings or fortification with their name, and I know Joss Whedon isn’t going to leave Alpha to waste, his demented mind would be perfect for unleashing such madness on the world.[/details]
I think the ending will only have a very few survivors from the main cast, maybe less than 3.
well the ending of the finale fit in quite well but still… it seemed like some sort of WoW happy ending instead of a real one
for final ep
Spoiler
like instead of ballard living happily ever after with echo irl, they make a happy ending out of him living in her brain. i dunno, i get it, but to me it isn’t the perfect happy ending unless you play too many videogames. i guess that’s kinda the point though, episode was generally filled with all sorts of sadness. what ever happened to caroline? is she gone forever?
I liked it, there shouldn’t ever really be true happy endings in real sci fi, I think Whedon gets that. He did with the Firefly movie, for instance. You have to leave it with some ambiguity; did the blast actually cure everyone? Was it only within a certain radius? Maybe the effects worked for like 99% of people, but the last 1% turned incredibly violent. Did the Original Rossum people survive and end up back with their thoughts, and decided to continue with their plans? Even if things went perfectly, the whole world has been fucked up for a decade or more, is it really that easy to just pick up and go back to the way things were? Victors team wasn’t so quick to give up the tech; those who still embrace the tech would be able to dominate still, leaving it as a luddite vs technomancer future. All pretty interesting stuff; suffice to say, I thoroughly enjoyed the series.
I’m assuming he’s the one that Topher “doll-ified” after he was brain dead. During the 10 year time jump, I guess he reforged the connection between him and Echo?
Also, Alpha has Ballard’s personality in him too… craziness.
Yeah, I have to admit. . .that finale was one of the more touching pieces of television I’ve seen in a while.
Epitaph 2
[details=Spoiler]
It sucked seeing Ballard die. He wasn’t exactly as charismatic as Victor or as hilarious as Topher, but I think he was probably the most sympathetic character that viewers could relate to–just a regular guy, caught by an obsession, trying to do the right thing, and constantly getting owned, up until the very end when he got a bullet in the head for all his troubles. Pretty tragic.
The entire finale was pretty fantastic, actually. Brilliant points include:
Dushku finally doing a good job of acting, when she was screaming at Priya about Ballard
the argument between Victor and his Mad Max crew about whether to keep abusing tech
Alpha finally getting some showtime, albeit completely undeveloped and jarring[/details]
Honestly, I’m glad I stuck with watching Dollhouse for its entire run. The 1st season was absolutely awful (sans 3 episodes), but once the 2nd season hit, everything started to work out for the better, leading up to absolute awesomeness. It felt rushed, but the pace was good. Thanks, Joss Whedon, for making a pretty decent show.
Love that Rick Fox cameo that did nothing for the show.
I’m sure Whedon knew about that, but it felt like Firefly in a sense. It’s meant to have a limited run. Whedon knows how it’ll end. It’s just a when game.
