I mentioned it a while back, but makoto seems to be the only character you can’t do that to after cmd grab

I was wondering…how come when I activate my super and I try to do lk xx mp Palm it doesn’t come out. When I do it outside of seiei it works. Any explanation??

LK goes from 5 frame start-up to 3 frame start-up when you’re in super, that’s nearly twice as fast.

You have to sort of plink it, do it really fast. I don’t think the above explains it, because I can do it outside of senei enbu in vanilla without any problems.

Maybe the cancel window is smaller during senei enbu? I summon @eternal because I’m genuinely curious on how senei normals change and Ono looks like ancient greek to me.

its the shadows. you cant cancel any normal after the shadow of that normal hits. not sure how soon the shadow mimics your inputs. the faster the normal, the smaller your cancel window is going to be during SE

if you are really exact with your inputs, you can dash forward do an exact QCB, then hit lk, mp

if you hit down forward anywhere in there tho it’ll give you a command grab

During SE, the amount of hit freeze that Yang does with his attacks gets halved; this is the most significant factor. His st.LK normally causes 8 frames of hit freeze, but only 4 during SE. Combined with the startup being faster by 2 frames, the cancel window for st.LK during SE is 6 frames shorter in total. The shadows don’t affect cancels.

Well, the cancel window is technically smaller due to frame data change of 5F startup 2F active being changed to 3F startup 2F active. But as you noted it’s easy to do in vanilla where the move is always 3F startup 2F active regardless of super or not.

Honestly, I’m not 100% sure why it’s harder to do in Seiei Enbu. A lot of stance related stuff is handled by the .exe not the character files. For example, Makoto’s damage boost isn’t handled by her character file. Cody’s knife pickup range as well as dropping the knife when hit isn’t handled in his character file, neither is the speed his knife falls when lost. Yang’s damage values for his shadows isn’t handled by his character file. ect ect.

My best guess is that the game eats up your input for the cancel if it occurs on the same frame as the start up for one of the shadows attacks. That is a GUESS though, I went through and recorded the thing frame by frame and couldn’t figure it out myself. Try asking Shodan or m16ghost or error1.

That said, it’s easy to deal with simply by doing the motion faster and double tapping the button you want for canceling in a special or if you have a stick for it by back linking (I just double tap :P)

Since the gurus are here, do the shadows each cause the same hitstun/blockstun as the regular attack?

The hit/blockstun is the same, but the shadows differ in that their attacks don’t cause any hit freeze.

how good is yang against grapplers

Grapplers are the worst nightmare for Yang,they has a lot of health and does too much damage on low life Yang.Yang’s horrible damage output makes it even worse.

I’m looking for a character that would be good to learn to improve my execution and counter the strong grapplers in ultra, but i don’t really like anyone else in the game besides Claw(my main), maybe t-hawk, and maybe sim, I’m not really into anyone else. I know the grapplers are going to be annoying for claw if double ultras stay in the game, which i’m fine with but i just want to see if theres any other options. Should i stay with subbing yang to improve my execution or just stay with claw.

Umm…learning and playing Yang will definitely improve ur execution as he is a very skill demanding character.But if u are more concerned about countering the grapplers,Yang is obviously not ur go-to character.

Anybody got a good OS with Yang that will stop Rose from both back dashing and EX Soul Spiral? Outside of an Ultra1 OS?

Hi all, I’m new to Yang; I plan on reading the backlog of this forum, but I have a few quick questions.

I’m a DJ main and I like Yang’s character art style -_-/

Am I playing him correctly? I tend to go for a defensive play style of just using footsies, maybe because dj doesn’t have any. I tend to abuse far fierce and far roundhouse and go for bnb combos when someone slips up. I’m afraid to dive kick, any suggestions on the proper way?
