Yang Q&A: Ask simple questions here!

Easiest way to do dash ultra?
Shortcuts?
Missing an input or two and still getting it?
What can I do?

I realize that when I hit it the dash is very short but when I miss the dash after rekka is more like a hop probably taking up more hit stun.
How do I avoid the hop dash.

To do the FADC ultra I just abuse a shortcut that allows me to get a dash with QCF.

To do the dash ultra after the launcher I just went into training room and practiced it in 30 minute segments, hitting restart on training room to skip the long ass animation when it worked. If I had nothing to do that day I would practice multiple times and now even without practicing for months it’s mostly consistent because of muscle memory.

how often do you guys re apply pressure with dive kick after blocked slash?

i feel like i do it too often. was watching a bunch of videos of high level yangs and it seems like if they get pushed too far out they usually end the last string with 2 lp slashes to get optimal AA spacing and then play reactively

i usually go back in with a low dive kick. good yangs do this too, but not near as often as i do. im wondering is this a reason why im seeing my play start to plateau. maybe im opening myself up to either more counter dive kick stuff, or more mashed reversals when i should just be playing in a semi neutral state

I do it until they show me they know how to stop it. Either that or go for a throw. But in the sense of just constantly applying pressure, I keep doing it until you make me stop. Then we go back to the neutral game.

Side note: Lost to CJ again… Last game, last round. I should have won, but I messed up an input and died… So close, but yet so far

thats usually what i do. its actually pretty hard to stop if you always do a low dive kick and are ready to dp if they neutral jump or focus.

maybe im just not doing a good enough job of asuming everyones a fucking masher. i played damdai like 3 times yesterday. he’s got like 20k with fei and 4.5kpp. mashed like there was no tomorrow. lol. then i would punish it and he would stop for a sceond. then right back to dps

This is like the story of my life with Yang on a daily basis. I just have a very bad habit of divekicking too much and making myself more obvious and open to counter dive kick reversals, focus, normals, etc.
I figured I would kind of stop after a while, but since I started playing him off and on months ago I still do it…uuugh. Wish I can just straight up play very good footsies with him. Just can’t seem to get his ground game
better.
I think his normals are only good for comboing but not necessarily good for out poking characters…as I lose to a lot of stuff from other characters. It also would be cool if he had more block stun on his jumping MK like Yun does.
Then you can mix it up with an early one and go into block strings like Yun can without fear of a reversal interrupting your block string. But nope…Yang gets reversaled for free after jumping MK trying to go into anything else. Hate that…Gotta use Jumping HP.

But yeah…I’m also trying to slowly implement the 2 lp slash pressure into my game as well after watching some videos.

Yangs ground game is amazing. If you are getting counterpoked then you are

  1. Being too obvious
  2. Have poor spacing
  3. Both

Also in regards to j.mk, you can reversal everyones medium or light jumpins on block unless its super super super deep.

Well…yes. I admit my spacing might be poor as I haven’t mastered the character, but I still think there are many more characters that have better normals that win out against his…
but yeah…you’re right…I’m probably being too obvious…which is hard cause I try not to be.

And yes I’m well aware that a large part of the cast has this jumping light/medium kick deficiency (which is stupid because it wasn’t like that in the older SF titles from what I remember until this one)…but I know for a fact that you don’t have to do a super late Jumping MK with my Gen in mantis. A normally placed one will not get you punished if you try to follow a string afterwards. Super super early…well yeah…maybe…most likely.
But I catch people not blocking and trying to reversal me after they block Gen’s jumping mantis MK every time, but end up getting comboed from me instead cause they tried to punish. I fricken love that. I wanna say that Juri and Yun’s Jumping MK is like this too from what I remember…maybe even Oni’s…and they don’t have to be super super deep.

I couldn’t do cl.mk-jc.lk dive kick-cl.mk on guile any tips ??

try hk dive kick instead of lk

I use hk dive and I don’t have any problems landing it on any character.

Alternatively you could dash, I’m pretty sure it works on everyone for the same effect.

Dash misses Adon and Dudley for sure. Maybe Fei and Rog as well

Is there a reason to end a combo using mp rekka?

It sets up a perfect meaty command grab timing in the corner if the opponent quick rises (mp rekka, dash, command grab).

Did anyone watch ESGTV when Alioune vs. Chi-Ritchy? Alioune playing yang and doing an option select up kick does anybody know the inputs he was using?

i just found out about this like a few weeks ago, but theres a 4 frame difference between hit stun and block stun on his dp

so what he’s doing is delaying the focus input by 4 frames. on hit it cant cancel because its past the cancel window. on block he’s safe. he inputs the focus backdash every time, but just inside that frame difference

it basically what seth players do but harder. where the dp only cancels on block

i originally wrote this off as impractical, but its actually very doable with practice. unfortunately its getting taken out in ultra

Damn its getting taken out. Thanks for the info.

What is yang on block and hit with Fadc hp rekka? With lp rekka?

I don’t anyone has posted this post 2012.

Slash FADC frame advantage:

Strength# ~ blockstun/hitstun

LP1 ~ +0/+3
LP2 ~ -1/+3
LP3 ~ -1

MP1 ~ +1/+4
MP2 ~ +0/+4
MP3 ~ +1

HP1 ~ +4/+7
HP2 ~ +5/+9
HP3 ~ +1

Does command grab st.mk work on everyone and can you follow up with dash ultra on everyone. cause i swear can never do it on makoto
