I should first probably state…off of what knockdown are these? Forward throw, sweep, or soft knockdown ender? And walk up or jump after?
If I’m doing a Rose/Bison safe jump OS from a forward throw(wiff cr mp…then jump, deep hard punch)
EX rekka will hit the backdash but will lose to her EX spiral. And st RH is to slow and doesn’t hit her when she backdashes…plus gets blown up
by EX spiral.
I can get his launcher xx f.jump light dive kick whiff into medium dp on some characters but for others it seems impossible. Can’t get it to work on cody for example. is this character specific?
After forward throw, what are my options. Any anti shoto setups to make dp whiff or any command dash mixups I can use?
I use hk dk, but most people use mk. I’m thinking lk divekick might not get you close enough for cl.mk vs some hitboxes (specially in s.lp, cl.mk starters).
Also you should use HK rollkicks. It does a little more damage but considerably more stun and more importantly you recover faster, allowing for more pressure.
yeah sorry i meant to switch it when i was correcting him. I still use mk dp to finish most of the time since the spacing it leaves gives you a 50/50 where hk dp seems to only do that for certain chars…correct me if im wrong
Haha thanks scott. Ya I am most likely going to switch from cody to evil ryu and yang. The “buffs” he’s getting are gimmicky nonsense. Yang looks like a really solid character to pick up for ultra.
I was hoping that one of the expert Yang players would answer you, but no one has. DJ is one of my mains too(I’ve seen your posts in the DJ
threads) and I’m like the opposite with Yang compared to how I play DJ. More offensive than defensive. It’s good that you’re not doing too many dive kicks…it’s a bad habit that I’m trying to break myself, but you will have to utilize them at some point as its a way to get in as well as a good use for a lot of setups and combos with him. You just have to be cautious with them and not do unsafe ones. To me…he is a fast footsie based character, not as fast and overpowering as Yun can be…but way more methodical in his approach to keep pressuring your opponent. He makes you constantly think of ways to keep close to your opponent at all times. All the matchups you listed I have problems with(those can be nightmare matchups with DJ)…but I’m starting to get a little better with some of them cept Guile and Sim…although pro Yangs will tell you that Yang can beat sim for free, I have a mental block on fighting him and Guile because of the DJ matchup.
One of Yang’s greatest strengths is his ability to control space especially in the corner and his mixup game on opponents wakeup. Yang isnt a defensive character but he has great defensive options on wakeup. You obviously cannot rushdown in the same way Yun can but ideally you need to be within his C.mk range.
What I like to do against an unknown opponent is just simply walk back and forth blocking (generally moving towards the opponent), maybe neutral jumping. Simply to see what buttons my opponent likes to use. Eg. As soon as you get within a certain distance vs Ryu, do they start pressing C.mk or do they show me S.lk etc and I plan from there. The most fun thing with playing Yang is you always have to be thinking, you create the masterpiece each round.
When I first started using Yang, I did use the Heavy buttons alot but you will soon find that those buttons are really only used for grapplers. They are not bad buttons but just dont abuse them. If the opponent gets a jump/focus while you pressed one of them then you’re screwed. Crawling back from a life deficit can be very difficult with Yang so try not to open up that opportunity for the opponent.
I struggle with those matchups too except Dhalsim so if someone else could elaborate on them that would be great.
I was wondering about Yang pressure…is it good for me to do cr mk xx lk teleport as a way to get in on the opponent. I don’t mean spam it of course but just stay close. I don’t know how to calculate frame data for cr. Lk xx teleport or cr. Mk xx teleport and so on. If anyone can help me out in that regard I’d greatly appreciate it
It can catch your opponent unaware but it’s actually punishable, I accidentally input it every so often and usually get extended pressure, but only because the opponent was probably waiting for something else of mine like re-applying pressure with a divekick.
I now have another question. I been looking everywhere but I can’t seem to find anywhere how to Kara rekka. Can someone please let me know how its done.
