Yang Everything

Thanks for the explanation. I didn’t even think about how slow Oro’s normals are for building meter–just how little each whiff builds, but speed is the more important factor anyway.

I agree that the twins build meter well enough that the small dif between cl.mp and cl.hp is negligible

I’d argue that it’s not negligible for another reason: close HP (first hit only) also does less damage. That means in a low-health dizzy situation like Rom was talking about, the lower damage can mean you’ll get the first hit of a mantis where you otherwise wouldn’t, which also yields a lot of meter. If you’ve got a good eye for estimating damage, you could also downgrade j.HK to j.HP which does a bit less damage in order to get an extra hit in. In other words, compare the meter gain from j.HK, close MP (guy dies) to j.HP, close HP x mantis (guy dies). Way more meter for the latter.

PS. Good luck next weekend Rom.

Hello all,

I’m recently picking up Yang and I am having a lot of trouble against Dudley. His normals stuff a lot of my moves and when he has me in the corner I struggle to get out vs his mix ups. I realized after playing Yang, that he has no real good wake up options besides guess parry, block, or throw/tech throw. Any advice vs Dudley?

jump back hp

low hp for anti air

low mk, slash from a distance may help

on wake up you can try jumping out if you know hes not gonna do anything, but it seems youll need to read your opponent to know what mix up theyre gonna do, you can break it down by looking at there meter…if they dont have meter then theres a good chance theyll either go for a throw or low hk for a damaging combo…from there that can give you an idea of what to look for and out to get out…you can try a teleport after a normal like st mp

oh yea st mp, slash (EX slash) on wakeup is rly good too…the only risk you take is if they parry it

just a lil thing to know: use st HK to kara throw when you want to pressure a character

The yangs in japan are great.

So true!!

Does anyone know the saIII chain(it like 30 hits)I seen it done on “rx”

A couple days ago, I did that combo on the cpu that’s usually reserved for crouching opponents: uoh, st.lk X ex Mantis Slash, but the opponent was standing. I THOUGHT I did it on someone meaty cos s/he was already standing, but I think at least 1 of the 2 times, I did the combo after the opponent did a slow wake-up, so maybe I’m remembering wrong…verification?!

One more issue…I don’t recall reading this being addressed, but does 1 of the 5 hits of the EX Mantis sometimes miss if the opponent is hit from max range of the cr.mk–which I used to buffer it–? I suppose it’s just another case of messing up the EX and not getting all the hits :frowning: :stuck_out_tongue:

uoh -> s.short xx ex slash works on standing characters too, as always it’s just dependent on distance.

If you’re missing one hit of ex slash that means you’re mashing it too fast. You’re doing it so fast that it’s skipping one of the hits.

The SA3 combo done on RX is most likely:

uoh -> [fierce slash, jab slash - walk forward a little - kick chain]

and repeat what’s in the brackets

Watching roshi play while I was in japan opened my eyes a lot. He goes for a lot of SA3 resets, either this is a recent thing [if you’re looking solely at his videos over the years] or he’s always been reset-happy in casuals. He also knows when to mash crouching jab xN when he smells a throw.

^post from 2006 i found readin’ through this thread. how the hell did you get so good in the meantime.

also, if do cr.forward at max(ish) distance, and i cancel into jab slash, it whiffs; if i cancel into fierce slash, it’s laggy on block. i was thinking that i could cancel a blocked fierce slash into jab slash for damage control, but certain characters can still reversal(?). should i just be canceling max range cr.forward into EX slash every time? i can’t hit-confirm it.

Hey Deadeye, did you ever find out why Roshi likes to do super jump mk after a knockdown?

I asked him about it, he simply said it’s because he has a lot of mixups from it. That’s exactly the reason I thought he’d give, so it makes sense.

yang why are you so cool?!:shy:

It’s cuz Yang is drink as fuck.

I have real problems executing ex mantis consistently. Very often the 2nd or 3rd hits just dont come out and he stops dead. Even with the 3 punches mapped to one button the move regularly screws up for me. Is it actually possible to do the motions too fast? Regular mantis can just be mashed out out with no need for prescision.

Any thoughts?

You are probably doing the motions too fast. Try slowing down a little bit, but don’t slow down too much so that it doesn’t combo.

you only have to use EX for the first mantis slash of the 5 then you can use different punches. so you could do it like i do!

qcf PPP mash mash mash mash mash mash mash, it pretty much always works

so what are yangs wake up options when knocked down ?

block.
