I know Sentinel is the best option for S/D, but what other characters can work as leads for S/D?
I’m really enjoying BH/Strider/Doom and I want to know if you guys think that’s a good team or not.

*So why is doom there?
Strider isn’t magneto or storm. His overhead doesn’t quite exactly work like theres. Since he can basically control the screen @ will, he needs some type of offensive pressure to make the enemy react. This is where doom comes into the picture. Doom chips like a mother fucker. With orbs and healthy doom rock pattern, which is random, one chip pattern can equate to 15-20% chip into another trap pattern for the same amount of chip. *
The only one that comes to mind that works with Strider is Tron. Then again, Tron and Doom work with almost every character.
i run magneto/strider/doom/. my sent isnt that great but i like bh also
right now IMO, its a battle between IM\sent to be paired with strider\doom. IM\s\d does have some potential in it but the team still needs to be played with for YEARS. clockwise is doing ALOT of things I like with IM\s\d.
other point characters that work with s\d.
s\cable\d
cammy\s\d
cyke\s\d
storm\s\d
mag\s\d
and to some degree chun\s\d might be very good.
these are probably the strongest variations with s\d.
doom ron work with strider but if you got REAL strider skills, you should be able to run strider\sent\cap and be effective with it. If strider gets a big life lead, you can turtle the fuck out of a lot of people and zone the screen off.
Thank you, Shoultzula. (:
I’m not using Sent because I’m not confident with him at all right now so I use Blackheart, who I find very useful for building meter, though I think it’s weak in the defensive part of it.
How can Cammy work though? And won’t having Cable hurt Strider since both of them are meter hogs?
BH CAN work but its a HUGE up hill fight since there’s no true AA on the team.
cable on point: its true that both of these characters need bar to operate well. There’s only 1 order I run the cable version on and its s\cable\d. From this position, I have a fully functional team, AA and a horizontal assist. Strider can do orbs, tag vs a grounded opponent and get cable in safely. You do need to manage bar but if you keep your bar around 1.8, you’ll always have 1 bar to orb. Then when you tag to cable, you’ll only need like 20% to get 1 bar with him.
The team really shines when strider jumps around and baits an AA. If he counter calls the opponents AA, you can do a bomb as they’re falling, late activate, then do the bomb again as the meter ends. For the cost of 1 meter, strider kills a whole assist. Then you have s\cable\d vs a duo with no AA. Its not free but it does make it easier.
The better you are w\o meter, the more this team shines. You want to be smart about dumping bar and only use it in spots where it would be beneficial rather than just dumping it.
watch eddie lee. You can also check out illan from cali. he plays a MEAN cable\doom duo.
The cammy versoin is OK. cammy\doom has some nice chip strings. Cammy does have a GREAT launcer in c.fp so you don’t really need an AA. Plus, you can always do call doom, srk+lk for invincible AA. This is just a really old team I used to play like in 00-01 and did ok with. Cammy\doom doesn’t suck but yet again, the meter stuff plays an issue since KBA is a main source of her damage output. You can try doing s\cammy\d like the cable version.
Best feature about cammy\doom is that you can lock someone into place for a while. Then the opponent will try to jump out obviously, and her air throw is so god like. Good range, and the damage potential after it is pretty retarded.
Cable means you gotta be a sharpshooter. None of that guessy shit with your supers that causes you to waste it. Cable/Doom has no problem building meter for himself since he chips very effectively. You land an AHVB, chances are the match is already in your favor by then. Turtle the rest of the way.
Cyclops is sort of the in between fighter and assist character. He builds very effectively and runs very well. Damage output and room for error is nowhere near what Sentinel gives you though. I would not start Cyclops at point against any team that has Sent/Commando or Sent/Storm. But one really good thing that Cyclops gives you against most of the best teams is the ability to clear out the entire screen and let strider regain control of the floor. So depending on different matchups, you can put Cyke first, second, or third on the team.
Other good batteries to start:
Omega Red
Iceman
Ruby Heart
Omega Red is one of Clock’s originals. Builds meter probably better than anyone in the top tier. However, he just doesn’t help your team too much assistwise. If anything, I think storm would fill his role better overall.
Iceman is also pretty effective, but you better be able to block with him since you don’t really have a good anti air. But that icebeam paired with one round of a Strider/Doom orb loop is insane chip
Ruby Heart paired with doom has some sick pressure patterns. Play with them a bit.
Other characters you might wanna try if you just want a good GTFO me assist:
Commando
Ken
Ryu
Jin
maybe Psy. Strider’s got some sick OTG juggles into ragnarok. I used to play Strider/Storm/Psy as a ghetto msp lol. But overall, Psy does almost nothing for Strider from what i saw.
All in all, finding a 3rd character for S/D is about finding whatever chemistry you can find that a character can bring to the table. I actually had this weird dream once where Strider and Doom were holding auditions for a 3rd teammate. So yeah, think of your feeling out process as a job interview in that sense. Or something like that o_0
oh man, how can I forget abou clocks omega red variation. Heard some stories about the squad.
yup, can’t really forget about the teams alex valle used back in the day. s\d\capcom and s\d\ken
Thanks a lot, guys. I’ll be messing around with them when the PSN version is released. (:
Which reminds me. Since Doom and Tron are one of the few characters that work with Strider, can they be put in the same team or is it too much of a risk to not have a real AA? What other characters work aside from Doom in your opinions?
If you are looking for a good anti air and good character simultaneously consider using cable in the second position–strider, cable, doom. In this order, you’ll be able to use cable as an anti air. However, I find that you’ll need a lot of patience and will need to learn how to play against those who bait and punish assist. On the positive side, this team can be one to be reckoned with once you get good with using strider w/doom and cable w/doom–two very dangerous couples. If you are to learn how to use this team you’ll need to get the following down:
Hope this general idea helps!
With this new unblockable cable bullshit, maybe Cable/S/D just got 100x better
Kai what are you talking about and are you still playing at Super?
He talking about Mvc2 on 360. People are saying they can’t block it on reaction now or something.
BH/SD
FO LIFE!!!
Love how BH builds amazing amounts of meter for Strider.

Against other SD players ive have the most success with SD/jin (cause my sent is garbage):wonder: Jin has helped keep dooms and tron assist out of my face
…
Really the question seems slightly miffed… b/c when playing anthing/strider/doom… the best point for the team will almost always be strider…
sent is selected by clockw0rk because he has a great assist and is a badass standalone character… consider strider is running the show so to speak… the best thing you can get is someone who a.)helps strider b.) is strong alone and/or paired with doom…
There is no character better fit than sent… his drones assist is the next best thing for strider to work off of in the event of doom’s demise.
Storm is pretty good, IM about the same, Mags a lil behind that… cable… as always… would work just fine…
Outside the top of the food chain… you have to begin rethinking simply because strider himself has weaknesses that a top tier character helps make up for. His lack of stamina is helped by sent… ect… If you do go with a mid/low tier I know it could also work great if you’ve got a decent gameplan for that toon… but it would have to operate in a significantly different way than the standard clockw0rk sorta team.
All this being said… I like spiral for the team… she is just as good at trapping/chipping away… but does so… unlike strider… by running away instead of chasing around… its one hell of a tempo shift when you bring her in… like throwing a perfect change up…
I do understand why Sent is perfect for S/D, but I like to fill up meter first so Strider can hog it for a long time and I’m just not confident enough with my Sent to use him. The only character of the top four I’m confident of using is Cable and MAYBE Magneto.
You have to watch a good sentinel in action for long periods of time in order to get a good Sentinel. That’s what happened for me. I could never ever in my life play Sentinel well because I would just watch him get owned by Magneto all the time. It’s until you see Sentinel consistently get at Magneto/Storm and all these characters with his super armor gimmicks and fast fly stuff in practice… that’s when you start to see the light.
Not only that but thinking of the double qcb KK as something normal to do. That’s just ONE move, changing the way you think about certain things will make you play better with Sentinel and in turn help your Strider a lot
…
Ok… heres’s something simple that will turn your sent into a beast and can really get you started…
cr.fp (shoots a beam)xx fp rocket punch xx hyper sent force (b, db,d,df,f+KK)…
one the hyper sent forces ends… start over… yes its an infinite til yer outta hyper bars…is mind bendingly easy to do… ect… its part of why sent is so insane… nice thing is you can begin it by DHCing to hyper sent force from someone else (as is commonly done with storm air combo to lighting hyper)
I’m sure you could tell just from looking at my username that I’m a strong advocate of any team with Blackheart on it. That said, I’m a huge fan of BH/Strider/Doom. I’ll be putting up some vids soon, some of which have me playing that team, which should give you an idea of how I think it’s best to play the team (though my strider is ass). I’ve also got some vids that show good pressure tactics with BH/Doom.
