XvsSF thread

Yeah, that Sabretooth was a beast.

Yo Prozac, started watching your 15 minute vid. Good shit dood. So you used to play on Kaillera? Who were the top guys on there? SaBr3 ever hop on? That guy’s shit is solid.

BTW-What do you think is Mags best way around Sabretoth j.fierce lockdown? I think he’s just gotta runaway.

-Vic

yeah mags vs sabertooth is a really hard matchup for mags, i have alot of trouble with it also, if i cop 1 jumping fierce or roundhouse im infinited to death, so my way to counter it is just not use mags vs him at all, and just use wolverine vs saber, then once hes dead i bring out mags.

Until i hear or see a good safe strat mag can do again sabertooth i think i will be using my strat listed above heh :karate:

Yeah, I agree with you Toxy. Mags best bet, atleats that I’ve seen, is to try and get that nugget throw on Sabretooth. But it’s hard, and if he gets one throw, you’re doomed. I personally use Cammy for Sabretooth.

So you’ve got a big scene out in Melbourne? You guys ever have turneys?

-Vic

Sabretooth isn’t a good character, for one reason. He’s a one trick pony, and that pony isn’t good enough.

If you’re playing Mag vs Sabre, you can bet money on him doing repeated j.fierce -> j.roundhouse, and not a whole lot else. Let him. Each time he hits you with j.fierce, pushblock. He’ll keep doing it, and after 3 or 4 pushblocks, he’ll be too far away to do it. But, guess what, he’ll do it anyway. And miss.(Unless you do something stupid like Dash into it)

So, with that method, you can push Sabre far enough away, where he can’t do his j.fierce lockdown. It opens up a window(Albeit a brief window) , where you can do what you want. And, once Mags can do what he wants in a Mag vs Sabre matchup, Mag controls the rest of the match. Just use sj.roundhouse.

Air vs Air, Mag vs Sabre, Mag wins. He’s more manueverable, and can follow up his hits. Air vs Ground, Mag vs Sabre, Mag wins. Sabre has shitty Anti Air, Mag has mad good AvG. Ground vs Air, Mag vs Sabre, Sabre wins. What this means… Is that, as Mag… Stay in the air, and you win. Spend the whole match SJing up and Air Dashing Down/Down-Towards/Down-Back. SJ up with sj.roundhouse if Sabre is close, and if it hits, cancel into AD D-T and combo into Grav -> Glitch Tempest, or Air Throw into corner into Grav -> Glitch Tempest, ggpo. If it gets block, AD D-T anyway and pressure. If Sabre is far, SJ up and AD D-T with roundhouse or forward. SJ -> sj.roundhouse totally shuts down his jump game. None of his moves outprioritize it unless you’re wicked close, his more powerful air moves are all too slow to beat it out, and if he blocks it, he has to sit in blockstun, fall back, and land, while you AD into his face and pressure, only to do it again, and if it hits, it’s a free tempest at worst, and ggpo at best. Sabre just has such sucky Anti Air. Even if he DOES land a lucky c.fierce, it won’t amount to anything(Except, if he’s smart, you might have to deal with his jump lockdown for a little bit afterwards, but, as explained, just pushblock that shit away), because Mag is a pain in the ass to air throw, due to his stupid air reel. Your air throws are more dangerous, too, just a little.

I think, once you guys get a feel for how to use Mag’s SJ/Air Dash speed to apply pressure, you’ll be able to get around Sabre’s really slow j.fierce all by yourselves.

Personally, I use Ryu to pwn Sabre-scrubs, because Ryu j.fierce > Sabre’s everything(Plus Jab DP. Oop, Sabre = Lose.)

Also, about that Kaillera stuff… Yeah, I used to play a lot on that… For a few years, I was the XvsSF best there, but I stopped playing when my PC and the servers started getting a little too crappy to play on. As for who’s top now, I couldn’t really tell you, except that T-Kimura and Joker are probably up there.

vic: “So you’ve got a big scene out in Melbourne? You guys ever have turneys?”

yeah we do have a big scene, the arcade i go to xvsf is the most popular game, and yeah we have monthly comps, its great

Prozac: thanks alot man, next time i vs sabertooth i will try the stuff u said

Prozac,

Nice strats dood. I’ll have to tell my friend. Because I’m the whore that uses Sabre on his Mags:/ Now tell me what his Mags should do to get around my Gambit.

Toxy,

yo dood, you should record some vids. We could trade vids. I have some XvSF stuff, but I’m not computer savvy enough to upload them. I’m a VHS kinda guy. I’ve got some EVO casual play even.

This is the bets thread on SRK.

-Vic

yeah recording matches would be good, im all for it, problem is not all players would like to be filmed, and you cant just going around filming people who dont want to be, and the other thing is i dont even have a Digital video camera

Rofl… Pray to Jesus. xD

I’m not good enough with Mag to give any good hints on how to get around Gambit. I’m a gambit player, not a Mag player, and I’ve never really found a Mag my gambit had a lot of trouble with… Heh

lol dont ask him tips for ur friend, get tips for urself , u do like to win dont u :D?

pick rogue for that shit. and i like me and dogface over any other two at next evo. whos up for that

Umthrfkr,

You are the man! A team of Rogue/Cammy would be too good! How’re things for you out in the VA?

-Vic

Prozac

Hey man, see you helped out on Didgital Insanity vol. 1. Do you have the transcript for that Ryu combo at 2:11? Shit is sick.

EDIT: I’ve been checking out the transcript for your vid. Crazy. I’d never heard of “Hiyuu” before. That’s pretty dope.

So, I see in a lot of vids where Ryu does st.fierce or st.rh xx air shinkuuhadouken. I can never get that. Is there a trick to it, or is it all in the timing?

You want to make some cash Prozac? Or how about an near impossible challenge? I wnt to know if you have ever or can find a way to combo (effectively) into Wolv’s Weapon X super. I swear I saw someone accidentally do it back in 96 but have never seen it again. If you could find that, you would be King of Kings.

Crazy though. The combos and tactics may keep evolving for this game but the same principle has been there since like 96-97. That being, don’t get hit first. And with infinites, first hit wins.

Yo man, great thread.

Thanks,
Vic

If only you knew how much the First Hit Wins, Dog… Once ComboVideos.com goes back up(Few days?), keep an eye out for SnH2. You’ll see.

Also, yeah, me and DJI used to talk XSF all the time. He borrowed a ryu idea or two, I think he used a couple in that combo… I don’t ‘have’ a transcript, but I know the game well enough, I could just watch it and write up a transcript of what’s goin’ down… Heh… Of course, the DJI vid is on PSX XvsSF, so not only might it be a little off(There are some differences in normal moves), but it might not work on arcade versions at all…

Also, for st.fierce/st.roundhouse xx Air Shinkuu HaDouKen, what’s happening is st.roundhouse xx Super Jump, Air Shinkuu HaDouKen. Cancel the move into an SJ, then do the super an inch of the ground. His air super comes out MUCH faster than his Ground Shinkuu HaDouKen(Case in point, you can combo cr.forward xx SJ, Air Shinkuu HaDouKen, and you can’t even combo cr.forward xx Ground Shinkuu HaDouKen, you have to use a st.fierce or something)

And I already know a way to combo Weapon X.

But it’s on Dhalsim. So it only half counts. But still, it’s the shiz. As for ways other than that… I don’t know. I’ve found too much shit in this game to say it isn’t possible… Heh.

Have you seen the vid itself, Dogface? Those funky Cyc/Gambit Low-to-the-ground jumping combos are Huyuu combos… It’s a messed up glitch. Remote-Blocking Priority leads to a lot of messed up stuff, like Suki Cancel, Huyuu, and Warping.

Edit: Oh shit… I just thought of a way to combo into Weapon X. xD! Brb…

Edit2: xD! I did! 16 hit combo, Weapon X included, not on Sim.

Prozac,

Hey dood, a second vid! Tood good!

Yeah man, I saw those Cyke and Gambit combos and I was like, “WTF, how’re they floating like that?” Then I read some of your transcript and understood. Shit is nuts.

Weapon X combo!? No shit?! With practical purposes? I ask, because if it’s a HIRYUU setup, I dunno how much I can get taht in a match, y’know?

I used to be really sharp on this game, playing on sticks my bud built, on a Saturn. And the comp out here in SoCal is good. But if I miss a few weeks here and there, I kinda forget a lot of my setups. now I play maybe once a week with my bud. Not as much as I’d like:/

I wish we could play sometime. Always looking to play new blood. Espescially someone who knows soooo much.

I’d love it if you’d PM that Weapon X combo. But I totally understand if you want to save it for a vid. I’m just glad to know it exists :pleased:

I’ll try that Ryu sj shinkuu. I think I’ve been doing just a regular jump modify, so gotta fix that.

-Vic

thing are great over here in va. how bout you.

but seriously we need to get this shit started for evo next year. xvsf singles and xvsf teams. im not on team random again.

i’m a scrub at this game,

no one likes playing me.

probably because i just pick sabretooth and do his standing infinite over and over again.

early j.hp, j.hk repeat.

Is charlie top tier?

Charlie’s really, really good. Top tier? I don’t know. Tiers in XvsSF are iffy.

If no one likes playing you when you do that, it’s their fault. There are plenty of ways around your methods, and if they can’t find them, and make you stop, it’s their fault.

Of course, it’s ok for me to say that, because I ‘know’ there are ways around those methods. If you found something that couldn’t be stopped, than yeah, you’d be a pain in the ass for doing it. But no, that’s not the case.

Umthrfkr,

Aw man, stuff in Cali is cool. I’m hoping I can swing by the SBO 3S quals this weekend and maybe get some XvSF action. And yeah man, we’ll have a better XvSF setup this year. You weren’t on random, you were on ran-dumb. But hey, you beat Justin Wong:)

Prozac,

You know, I still believe if you’re playing with infinites, Mags is godly. All he needs is trinagle jump into 1 hit, or block stun throw, or anything into that goddamn nugget throw, and it’s rinse and repeat infinite, game over.

Toxy,

Manhattan? VA is Virginia, my homie Umthrfkr’s stomping ground, if that’s what you meant. But Manhattan is in NY, which is the home of Marvel Comics, which publishes X-Men. Does that count?

-Vic

I still say Mag and Storm aren’t in the same tier. If you wanna put Mag in Top Tier, you might as well put Storm in God Tier. Keepaway… Plus Counter = Infinite. C’mon.

What was XvsSF like @ evo last year… I’d ‘like’ to go, definitely, this summer, but I’m not sure if I can front the cash…

And, Manhattan = Name of the “Police Van” XvsSF Background. ^_^;

You know Prozac, I actually would consider Storm god-tier. I think she may be the best character, with exactly what you mentioned. I mean, runaway the WHOLE round, plus the counter into inf?! She is too good.

XvSF at Evo is always cool. Since EVO is at Cal POly, their arcade has an old XvSF machine. You’d think it was the late nineties all over again (or Melbourne :wow: ) since there would be a row of quarters on the machine.

This last year, with all the all-star talent, I organized a 3-on-3 turney. Coulda done singles, but with all the stuff going on, tracking down people would’ve been rough. I mean, really rough. But with 3-on-3 teams, peeps hung around, it went fast, and it was fun. GOOD players, like Combofiend, Umthrfkr, Eddie Lee (for a bit, then he left to go play poker upstairs and make money), Lukesballs, Nibor, and many more. I mean, we had guys from WC, EC, Vegas, even VA :pleased: It was really dope.

You would have a blast. David Lee (who won MWC the previous year) was around for a few casual games. And the year before, BAS was buzzing around. So was my homie Sabre, who is a Charlie enthusiast like yourself.

The comp is really good, and usually people have enough fun at heart to keep the infinites to a minimum. In fact, the real infinite issue came out when Umthrfkr and Justin Wong played each other in turney. Umthrfkr wanted no infinites, Justin said he did (and keep in mind, Justin had won MWC THAT year) and it was ugly. Cyke vs Cyke infinites. But Umthrfkr came out on top.

Finals was my team (WC) which was me, Lukesballs, and Combofiend vs Nibor, Eddie Lee (and then “Ed the Head” a Jersey player who subbed in) and Justin Wong. My team made CF our starter, and he played Mags/Cyke and infinited the whole EC team. But the entry fee was just a dollar, winner take all, so no harm done.

It’s always fun to get together. I mean, stuff from 1996 still wins on that game, and so does new MvC2 Triangle Jump tactics, so there’s always somebody playing.

But I understand the funds man. Shit sucks.

So, when can I expect the Weapon X combo vid?

Oh, and I been meaning to ask you. How many nOTGs are you allowed in a combo? Don’t say infinite? And without FSD, you can’t relaunch off a nOTG, can you?

Thanks dood,
Victor
