Won’t make a difference. People are sheep. The original 360 was an enormous money grab with all the extras that should’ve shipped with the system. Don’t even get me started on their proprietary HDD. When deciding between a PS3 and 360 (I have both now), I couldn’t believe the price difference when you really sat down and did the math. It was ridiculous. It made me feel sorry for all those soccer moms who thought they were doing themselves a favor by buying the standard 360 bundle, not knowing she was costing herself another $300 down the road just to get the thing up to par.
Long story short - people are sheep. No matter what Xbox One will need to do what it’s supposed to do, people will buy it. Happily.
Or we simply use the other console. Especially when you consider that both seem to have the, near as makes no difference, exact same PC specs underneath.
It’s not even about the disc. The disc is just an install disc like PC games are. The real driving factor is the CDKey. As long as a legit CD key exists on the account then the game will work on that console. However the downside is that it requires an internet connection for this to work.
The PS4 is much better equipped to handle tourneys. It has a live stream function built into the OS and also has a footage record option. The PS4 doesn’t require always on connection, so it can play games offline just like we do now. Since both systems are on par with each other technologically, we don’t have to worry about performance differences between the two copies.
I’m not saying its happening anytime soon, but you can see it from here and the train is slowly picking up speed.
I just sigh and shake my head that in this mad rush to grab the ADHD addled, forgets-as-soon-as-the-movie-ends, ‘casual’ market, the industry sells its soul and sells out the very people who are most passionate about this hobby…
The so-called ‘hardcore’ may be niche now, but they weren’t so niche when the industry was buried in the rubble of the fall of Atari and the crash of the market in the 80’s. They weren’t niche when an upstart former card company delivered a little grey box called the NES and revived said dead industry. Were they niche when Sony entered the market with the original Playstation and turned their video game division into a billion dollar subsidiary? They certainly aren’t niche when they purchase multiples of your rushed-to-market consoles that can’t even do their intended function without breaking down, are they?
The same people who played Marvel 2, Third Strike, and ST for over a decade(or two, in the case of ST) while waiting for Capcom to notice their passion and give them new entries in those series… who made the casuals sit up and take notice of fighters this generation. The ones who they will come crawling to when their Kinects/Eyes/Moves/DLC lose the attention of the fairweather fans who are only here because Drake tweets about playing other useless celebrities in COD and don’t know a Wii-mote from a TV remote?
When the smoke clears and the money runs dry, when all but a handful of companies remain, the day will come when the market HAS to take notice of the hardcore once more… and this time, they might not be there to save them.
When that day comes… remember these words of someone who grew up with the industry and never thought he would outlive it.
Why the hell is the Xbox One the same size as my PC desktop? You would have thought that these company pumping out game console every 7 or 8 years would have some kind of technique to make their game console smaller but nope they keep making it bigger.
I am just extremely weary of all of it… I’m tired of fighting fanboys who just blindly bend over as if we all just have to accept it.
I’m one of the few people who actually practices what he preaches and votes with my wallet. I haven’t bought a console game since Metal Gear Rising, and I really can’t remember anything I’ve bought in the last few years that wasn’t a fighting game or a portable title.
However, I’m just one man, and I don’t think things are ever going to get better. This Xbox shit was just the tipping point-- I’m going to get a 3DS and fill out the library on that thing… I might get a WiiU, but I need to see at least 5-6 great games and a price drop before I even dare deign to pick one up… but even then, I think I’m tapped out. Time to find a new hobby, I guess…
Except the Xbone isn’t proprietary or bleeding-edge hardware. It’s comparable to high-end laptop parts. I like the “mature” design, but does MS comprehend how much of a turnoff huge appliances are -right now- in the world of iPod-like minimalism, never mind how much more unappealing they will be in the few years the original, pre-redesign Xbone is out in the wild?
We went from Xbox to Xbox 360, to Xbox 1. I sure wish MS could make up its fucking mind on which way it wants to count. What I DO find interesting is what people will refer to it as in shorthand. “Yo, man you playing the 1?,” “What am I doing later? Nothing much, just gonna hop on my 1 and play some Madden.” Or even better the “Xbone”.
I wouldn’t even mind a used license if it were cheap. Say $5 max. Full price of the game? That’s some “you gotta be stupid” shit right there.
I love the potential irony of the inevitable “Aw shit, my internet’s down. Oh well at least I can play the 1 (console to rule them all)” … oops
What about countries/places with shoddy online infrastructures? I guess this isn’t exactly a huge market, but there have to be pockets here and there that will be assed out.
I still don’t understand the fucking point of watching TV from my Xbox… it’s like… it’s still displaying ON MY FUCKING TV so what’s the point?
I’d imagine that they can just register a new gamertag for every game. So when I get the game I log into the gamertag for that game… er… then nope then what happens when the person from before is being a dick and still goes on… almost had it.
…eh this could still work, but they’d have to change the password every time the game comes back in. This is still theoretically possible, but a logistical nightmare.
It’s looking to me like MS might have done something similar to what Youtube did with Nintendo. They’ve offered a chunk of second hand sales revenue for more 3rd party support. So there’s a chance that not all developers will be on board with the second hand games fee, how many developers are going to turn down free money considering development cost next gen are likely to be even higher?
The problem with Hardcore players is that most generally don’t get laid, and thus our numbers are not being replaced. A new generation starts every 25 years, and we’re already 20+ years into the gaming market. It’s actually more likely that Hardcore gaming market will die out before the gaming consoles will die out, not vice versa.
So does this mean I can’t bring my console to tournaments anymore for casuals in my hotel room? Ya know, since theres no internet connection in there and im not paying some stupid fee for that.
And I wonder how long it will take for Joysticks to be made on this console since I doubt any wired controllers are going to be used ever again.
Will madcatz get on that asap? Or will it only be Microsoft/Sony branded from now on with it being wireless with lag.
Hopefully everyone makes their voices heard on social media sites and Microsoft will drop the whole Online Always stance and try to win back the faith in their customers.
