XBOX One will play used games. But you have to pay

This console is squarely aimed at “bro gamers”.

We saw 1. Steven Spielberg 2. the NFL 3. EA Sports 4. Forza 5. Call of Duty

What core gamer is going to early adopt this thing? Like oh man, time to throw down 400 dollars on a fantasy football machine so I can watch Season 5 of Heroes (allegedly).

They’re pulling a Nintendo, and betting the farm on casuals with this. I don’t see it paying off. #learnfromtheWiiU

Why is gaming today so damn complicated?! Why do i need all that frivolous shit? What is wrong with used games?! Just give me good games and a good controller.

God damn i miss the days of super nintendo.

Wait, is this allegedly a thing?

Yes, Microsoft is in talks to bring the show back exclusively on their Xbox…TV thing they got going with the XBO. Very recent announcement, I read it a couple days ago, but about a month old.

Hardcore Gamers are a niche to companies these days. They want to appeal to as broad an audience as possible to make $$$. I don’t understand what is so hard for people to understand about this STILL.

Yes. MS has been in talks to bring the series back. I read about it a little while ago.

My biggest problem is that Bryan Fuller is busy w/ Hannibal. He left Heroes 2-3 times during it’s run and each time he did, the show collapsed. He was the only one who knew what to do w/ the characters and moving the plot into interesting areas. Each time he returned it got better.

And let’s be honest, it’s not Heroes w/o Peter Petrelli, Sylar and HRG. Two of which I don’t see doing anything interesting. Sylar may be a bit expensive to cast though.

Not simply an activation fee…but the actual price of the game?
That is fucking stupid.
Tournament organizers will basically have to jack up the entrance fee or limit the amount of consoles to simply “one”.

I don’t normally buy used games unless they are just hard to find new…yet I do tend to bring my games to my neighbor’s house so we can game for a hour or two. I don’t think either of us would want to pony up the extra cash for him to have the “right” to play a game I bought.

And yes…I can see Sony doing something similar in the near future.
It would be fucking suicide…but yeah

I think this could potentially be the beginning of a huge downfall for Microsoft. Sony would be wise to maintain a relaxed stance on used games, keep their online free, and watch Microsoft dig its own grave.

Sony just needs to shut up, keep the PS3 work on the PS4 and watch how Microsoft kills themselves.

Or depend on players to provide. Which could mean lower payouts. Since the FGC is all about money anymore…DONE.

I’m not a huge fan of having games locked to one account but it sounds like MS could inadvertently create a black market or secondary market with the game trading thing. I could buy like one game, and then that game instantly be worth 2-4 games just due to the fact that it’s brand new. If I were an Xbox One purchaser (which I won’t be) I’d exploit the shit out of that trading system.

Hardcore gamers are generally more picky and broke…casual gamers got dat money.

It makes sense.

I’m just hoping that developers don’t flock to the Xbox because it requires a used game pass; That could make Sony potentially have to follow suit. Than again, for all we know, that could already be the case and they’re just being hush about it. This entire used game debacle really turns me off from next gen to be honest. I can’t say I’m interested in the Xbox One at all right now. I’m actually kinda hoping that they never release any exclusives for the system that I feel like I have to play. I already own a WiiU so as soon as I buy my PS4 I’m basically set for this coming console gen.

…And I’m totally with colguile on missing the days of simply popping in a game and playing it.

Yes, the Xbox One does have a huge casual appeal. Voice recognition for watching TVs, movies, internet, and listening to music. 500 gbs of hard drive space for DVR TV recording, a Blue-Ray player, and being able to use Computer Applications from your television is nice. I don’t know how Sky glass works, but if allows you to use your phone or tablet as a touch screen interface, that would be nuts.

However, even the most casual player will not buy a $400+ gaming console for anything less than playing games on it, which Xbox One makes it very difficult to do so. Even playing single player games is a chore on the new Xbox.

Combine that with the fact that PS4 doesn’t have all these restrictions to playing games and you got the world’s most sophisticated paper weight, the Xbox One.

If this Xbox One came with a program that allowed players to play their console games on PC monitor without any input delay, THAT would open up a whole new realm of gaming possibilities

man console gaming is literally a first world problem.

Casual gamers could give two fucks about Skype, watching the NFL on console, and BS tv shit. They want to play games. They want dat Madden and Call of Duty. I laugh at the “new” features that COD is putting in nevermind that besides the Dog, every FPS has done those features before.

Whats the bad part?

PC is still master race, as we still have out ps3/360 so if they really try to implement this and these consoles become the laughing stock new age Nintendo 64DD of the industry they’ll learn QUICK.

I think you guys will find this hilarious. Apparently the biggest feature on the Xbox One: The ability to watch TV from your console,
DOESN’T EVEN COME WITH THE CONSOLE! You have to buy a separate device to enable it.

Also they are saying that your cable box or related device will require an HDMI Out slot to enable Live TV on the XBox One, which none of my devices have. Does yours? Probably not.

im curious how sales will do compared to previous years if online is a required item. especially since i imagine madden’s biggest sales are prob frat boys…and the hood lol. now they only got one of those two on lock, maybe im overstating the significance of niggas gettin dat madden.

Theoretically wouldn’t TO’s simply be able to log in different systems as friends/partners who have the game and still just need the disc? As long as the right Live account is matched up with the right disc, the games would be playable.

That said venues would ALWAYS have to be readily available, and I’ve been to more than a few tournaments without any internet access in the venue. Hmm…
