follow the trace to another point you can try to solder too.
Worst case scenario you have to remove some of the solder mask and solder directly to the track
Soldering directly to the track is difficult and if you mess up makes everything worst.
You want to glue the wire to the PCB when you are Done so it does not pull free.
On the RB connection I donāt really see where that trace goes or where I could solder to it at another point. Also there are 2 pairs of holes for RB. Are each pair supposed to be together, or are all 4 wholes supposed to be isolated from each other.
Right now Iām looking at probably soldering directly to the legs of one of the connectors that joins the upper and lower board, (thanks ChaoticMonk) if no other options are available.
You still have plenty of trace to solder toā¦ I can tell by your scratch marks that you scratched it perpendicular to to direction of the traceā¦ dont do this as you can tear it up. Use a flat or short angle razor and lightly scratch in a BACKWARD motion (dragging the blade backwards) until the trace is exposed. Use flux and then solder a small point. When you are ready to add wire, tin your wire, then heat the small point, take the iron away and then put the wire to the solder until it cools.
You can ground to any other ground point (including the other side.
Thanks for the tip, Iām glad I didnāt mess any other connections up as I used same technique to scratch the other connections. So the I can get on that trace for the ground, but what about the RB connection? The 2 upper holes seem ruinedā¦
Vicko, why I didnāt realize that. Then again I donāt have a Xbone controller as I have nether system
The headers are much sturdier and heavy duty than the button pads. Actually if someone can find the right connectors, you would not have to solder to the PCB at all, you solder or crimp your wires to the connectors and leave the PCBs pristine.
Header points are very small, extremely close together, and they dont pass through to the other side of the board, its surface mounted. Seems easier to just hit the pcb points instead.
I would like to see what you did vicko if you are soldering them all to the headers. I know you are well experienced enough to do it and it probably looks nice and clean.
Looking at this picture I realized I was looking at this wrong. My problem is actually with LB and the ground that sits right under that. The trace I scratched on my picture below is what I believed to be the ground. Is that it? and the LB connection is burned, where do I find that track? Sorry for being so confusing. Thanks for all the help.
Game stop was right next to Radio Shackā¦ It was two for one shopping, solder kit and controller in one trip. I got a wide tip so I can get better flow
I was going to map the actualy pins tonight, did I miss anyone having done that already?
Was thinking a nice little harness might make this very easy to hack.
is there maybe a part number for a molex connector that will fit the connectors? probably would eliminate a lot of the problems people are having with scraping traces
On it, this controller is a dream to mod, the sub board basically takes care of everything making it easy to do. I just ripped mine apart, my wife is cringing, we paid 60 for whatā¦
Worst case scenario itās a simple new second board, but whatās beautiful is that even the USB comes in through the sub board. More continuity testing, less chit chat
