XBox 720 To Ban Used Games?

PC offers way more then that. One has to simply brows to Steam game list to see that. But I’m sure you’ll not bother and just be happy in your own delusional world where the only games on PC are FPS and RTS.

Wow, is it 1996 again?

MovieBob? Is that you?

Look, I get the guy you were replying to is being a little dumb about PC gaming’s supposed superiority, but that doesn’t mean you have to post here. I stopped watching your idiotic Game Overthinker videos for a reason.

and yes… many people do, rts alone.
not just that
but mames and what not.

PC is nice when you are a middle-class family/bachelor who makes enough disposable income he can afford to build/buy a good enough computer to play, but the thing about consoles is they are cheap enough that teenagers mowing lawns, lower income families, etc. can still buy them.

In addition you don’t have to be knowledgeable with computers to run an Xbox. You just put the disc in and play. Lastly playing with your friends is easier. If I want to play on PC I have to have as many computers as I have

The one thing PC gamers never seem to get is that not everyone is as fortunate as they are. Not everyone has the time to learn how to build a good computer, not everyone can shell out money to upgrade everytime a new game comes out, and not everyone grew up around computers. That is the reason consoles will always be big because anyone can operate them and you always know (Red rings and mechanical failures aside) they will work.

What the fuck am I reading?

I guess
but Im saying, if this next console doesn’t make me blow my load
Im gonna go to pc…

What’s so funny about it?

See I completely understand that. Video game companies are business, make that money. What I don’t like is that when all games are catered them. When they are all prepackaged and made specifically for them. I perfectly fine with this new wave and popularization of video games, more income for companies = more money, = more games, = more experimental games that try and push or break the mold. That isn’t the case, its in fact a regression, and that is what bugs me the most. But all games don’t all have to be out there in that risk zone.

I believe that he is justifying bad business models and practices under the banner of maximizing short term profits. But he, fucking money, as long as its being made surely something is working.

someone else gets it

Unless they start requiring an internet connection to play.

tl;dr version at the bottom.

It’s just that the whole bold section just smells of really bad money handling and uneducated purchasing to me. Then again, I learned the value of money from a young age. I used to get $1 every day for lunch money (I went to Kindergarten and grades 1-4 in Puerto Rico where they gave you rice and beans for lunch) but all I ever did was save that money to buy video games or things I wanted. As a result I grew up spending almost no cash on things. I made some bad purchases (Shaq Fu for SEGA Genesis, fuck the haters!), but these went down as time went by. My parents are by no means wealthy (and weren’t back then), definitely not middle class but that never really prevented me from buying video games and later on computers. I am poor as fuck but even I managed to save up money for 2 PCs, a 32" 1080p TV (fuck yeah black friday!) and over 160 PC games on Steam. I don’t own a cell phone because my current lifestyle is one where it’s not necessary (I’m online at all times and can be contacted multiple ways) so I keep my overall expenses to a minimum. Seeing as how my family couldn’t really afford it, I went to a pretty good state college where financial aid covered everything.

My sister on the other hand got $5 a day, then $10 a day throughout high school. Where did all that money go? Poof, spent every last bit of it on food I guess. Though that money was all because my father had retired so my sister was getting a good chunk of cash for that reason. She still shredded all that money away though. She is going to a $30k+ a year college and will have a shitload of loans to pay off (my mom had to take out loans under her name to help my sister pay which she has to pay while my sister is still in school, because my sister said it was too much trouble to write essays to get scholarships…) and purchased an unlocked iPhone 4 recently.

The fuck does all that have to do with your question? I have no idea, but somehow felt it was relevant, forgot how while I was writing it though . To answer your question, it’s funny because while what you wrote makes sense, it’s something that I see as completely illogical.

As for the rest, it’s not a matter of being knowledgeable or fortunate. Knowledge is something that you need to work for. It makes me really sad as a person, when people praise others for putting a computer together, or when you get called this super smart geek by fixing insignificant things. None of the things you described are things that come off as technical. They are really just about following directions and reading. Then I get even sadder when I realize that most people don’t even know how to use their cable box remotes or even their own cell phones. Doesn’t help that most devices that are returned to stores are in perfect working order, just that the buyers couldn’t be assed to read the instructions. Wish people just read more and had a bit more patience, their lives would be a lot better that way.

I’m gonna stop talking about this now before I lose whatever hope I had left for humanity (which I’m pretty sure is at 0).

tl;dr version, read the wall of text.

Again just because your situation worked out doesn’t mean everyone’s does. For instance I have expenditures that many people don’t. I have to spend over $300 dollars on prescriptions that I have to have just because I have a lung disorder that will haunt me for the rest of my life. Right now I am on a graduate student salary so paying $300 is a large chunk of change.

Also part of the problem isn’t even about knowing how to put a computer together it is making sure the parts go together and actually not wasting your money by buying a part that is too fast for the rest of the computer and such. That takes time and knowledge about the parts to do consistently. There are a lot of wrong ways to build a computer.

In the end though think about it. Which is easier to save up for? A $200 console or an $800 computer? It will always be easier for everyone to buy consoles than PCs. Even if you can afford a PC, the console is still going to be an easier choice.

I understand this, there are lots of people who are in situations where it is simply not possible to save up for stuff because other stuff takes priority, but it really just is a matter of learning how to spend your money and cutting back on stuff if you aren’t in such a situation. Yes, this means a lot of sacrifices, like eating shitty food for a while and not buying beer but if you are fortunate not to have any medical expenses and such, then it is possible to do so.

I agree, but like I said this is more reading and patience than anything. Most people simply aren’t willing to do this for most things so the result is that they don’t. People don’t suddenly KNOW how to build a PC without reading and doing research. Assembly itself is a joke, takes all of 20 minutes even on your first build and even your first time it’s still a complete experiment. My issue lies more with people just having this attitude in general for everything, not only building PCs. They simply see things they don’t understand as hard and just give up on them. Anything that requires assembly, or reading manuals is something that people tend to avoid but if you have the time to sit on your ass for hours and watch TV then you have the time to learn how to do these things. Unfortunately it’s impossible to make someone else actually want to do something they don’t so we end up where we are today. There’s always alternatives.

They are both easy to save for, just one takes longer than the other. Which again comes down to just knowing how to manage your cash so you don’t spend it. Consoles tend to be more expensive in the long run compared to PC gaming if you’re a type of player that can wait for games to go on sale to buy them. Yes, the up front cost for PC gaming is more and that makes people shy away from it but there’s just too many myths and misinformation about PC gaming in general. Then again a lot of the problems were caused by the industry itself so maybe they got what they deserved

well in honesty, you don’t need to upgrade you pc every year, do you?

consoles aren’t 200 either (maybe now, 6 years after) if it is you can just spend 200.
I’ve had more fun on team fortress 2 than I’ve had in COD… and I’ve played tf for like 2-3 days

People that tend to upgrade every year are more hardware enthusiasts than anything (they play benchmarks). There really is no need to upgrade every year to play PC games. A mid-range gaming PC will last 3-4 years before the video card has to be upgraded again ($100-200) and the processor might very well last you 6-8 years @1080p, hardware will last even longer the lower the resolution you play at. This mainly depends on how low you can put the settings down to have the performance you want though.

Not to mention games on PC are ridiculously cheaper, especially during sales. During a Steam sale last summer, I managed to spend around $100 on twenty top-notch games. Those same games on consoles would have cost me around $1200.

Who’s saving money now? Hmm?

Plus, no one ever complains that PC online sucks, like they do for console.
Cause you have no one to blame but yourself (and your shitty connection).

Games are cheaper. Games have more staying power (too many adventure/RPG’s that would be too complex for a controller, and have unlimited replay value). Plus, you can always alt-tab and surf for porn if you are waiting for something in a game. Once I bought a controller for my PC, I didn’t feel the need to play anymore console games, minus sports games and fighting games.

For consoles, I’ll just stick to my classics hooked up to the CRT in the basement.

Mo money mo problems son. I will never purchase a used game. That shit is 8 yr olds with $5 allowances and milk money. Have you seen how dirty a used game is? Disgusting, my hands and consoles are too good for that garbage.

i said that last gen, and then this gen REALLY disappointed me. They basically enhanced last gen, and followed terrible financial practices. I was expecting heavily modded games, and an almost PC like environment. I mean, why am I paying 12 bucks for horse armor I could get for free online in a PC game?

This practice has gone on for like 20 years. Lose money on the console, make it up on peripherals and game licensing fees (and now DLC). It’s also the same practice employed by MANY other companies, including Gillette (lose money on actual razor, make it on disposable razors).

Wow. Just wow. First of all, I paid a hell of a lot less than $600 to upgrade a current PC to a gaming PC. You just need some RAM and a good solid video card. I bought a 300 dollar PC, swapped out the video card and RAM (added 8 gigs of RAM and a RADEON 6850), and kept the shitty onboard sound card and mobo/processor and hard drive.

And when I want to upgrade my pc again, I will just need to get another video card and crossfire, or just a brand new video card. Simple as that. RAM’s still good, sound’s still good, case is still good, monitor/hdtv is good, mouse and keyboard are still good, hard drive is still good.

On a console, I have to pay the same price as a PC, for a weaker PC, that won’t allow me to do most of the things a PC can do. And the games cost a lot more. And I can’t play 64x64 maps in FPS’. Or mod RPG’s. Or even PLAY RTS games on a console.

And yes, my PC graphics shit all over console graphics. This isn’t “amazing” graphics. There is a HUGE difference between me playing Skyrim at 1920x1200 resolution with my modded spells and equipment, summoning 5000 wheels of cheese to roll down a mountain, and me playing on a fucking console, where any DLC will cost me an assload, I can’t play anything online while I download the DLC, the DLC is tied to my console and user account as well, and my graphics take a nosedive.

You are an ignorant asshat, and I hope to God you buy a fucking Wii-U and choke yourself to death with the cords.

What about rentals?
That suckkkkkssssssss. I play Playstation anyway though, so whatever.

I SAY WE ALL GET HIGH!!!
