XBox 720 To Ban Used Games?

No kidding.

Welp, time to go back to PC gaming.

This cant be real. I dont think Microsoft would kill their sales and alienate their system and or fanbase like this. I mean, this is like some shit Apple would do or something.

Believe it when I see it. That exact same rumor was floating around for PS3 before it was released.

If it turns out true then I know which console I won’t be buying.

Sad thing is MS could get away with it these days, people can’t boycott for **** and a lot of “gamers” these days seem to think the companies are doing them a favour by allowing them to give the companies their money.

Hmmm so what do companies like Blockbuster who rent games out think of this??

I think Blockbuster is too busy picking up the rubble of what they used to be to even read rumors.

No…they aren’t returnable, they aren’t resellable, you can’t borrow them, and you can’t give them away. You buy a downloadable game that you realize you don’t want the only thing you can do is delete it.

Hey Microsoft, if this is true, guess who won’t be buying your next generation system?

Spoiler

Anyone with half a brain.

Gamers would not do a thing but bitch and buy new games, you overestimate the average gamer.

Yeah… I pretty much called this years ago. The second I saw all the DRM infested bullshit and all the things they were trying to come up with for PC games, I knew it was a matter of time before it made its way to consoles. Sadly this is just the natural progression of things when the big companies have all the power.

All this time all they talked about was “PIRACY” this and “PIRACY” that, a lot of people were warning everyone that piracy was the easy scapegoat. The real target was 2nd hand sales, and not only that, just to completely remove any value and reselling power from the consumers. But console gamers didn’t care, as it didn’t affect them. Online passes were the beginning, and Capcom has been on the front lines with their stupid shit too (always online DRM requirements for Bionic Commando Re-Armed 2 on PSN, the save game BS for the 3DS Resident Evil). So now when you buy your games new, they will be worth $0 the second you open them. Welcome to PC gaming for the past 20 years. :frowning:

At least PC has Steam the greatest thing ever.
The way steam does sales should be the future for consoles, but sadly that’ll never happen.

Well, while Steam is a great service, it’s still sort of the “lesser of the evils”. Steam is DRM. Steam doesn’t let you resell your games. You will rarely get a refund, etc. It does basically fall right under the “shit you shouldn’t accept under any circumstances” category but like you said… the sales. When you can get games dirt cheap, many people just don’t care (myself included).

dunno why people always say “well i wont be buying that system”

in the end, you’ll buy whatever your friends have and like it. if you have a grown up job you’ll buy both

Microsoft ands its monopolies, they have so much money and yet they still want to control everything, fuck them

Good, that is what you get for being a fucking loser. Who makes the gamespot their hangout anyway?

Hang out at gamestop lol, they know as much about games about the same a blonde high school girl. Ive been to gamestop at NC, NM, AZ, and TX they are all idiots

That’s a terrible idea if true (I don’t rely on Kotaku for anything). This goes beyond used games, though. You couldn’t even borrow a friend’s game, because it would still fall under the “used” category. They might as well make all their games digital downloads only.

On a semi related note, I think there should be some way for Gamestop to be able to tell when you haven’t used your online pass and give you more trade in value. As 99% of the time, I refuse to be bothered with that shit and I should be paid accordingly for my supremely idiotic choice to trade in a game to those white collar thieves.

I certainly wouldn’t do that. Of course I don’t need a lobby of friends in a Call of Duty lobby to enjoy myself with a video game.

Well I wont be buying that system. Because I buy what I want and I don’t like to waste money. As I am not a gamer or player of FPS games. I only play with my friends when I’m at their house.
