X-MEN : Days of Future Past Thread

After watching that clip again, that makes sense, but I think they could have made that a tad more clear. Anyhow, it’s really obvious they rode the fame of Jennifer Lawrence. I agree with Blitzfu and was writing a similar response to what he was saying.

The writers could have easily (not saying they should, but easily) used another mutant’s DNA in place of Mystique’s. Glaring one is Rogue. Yeah, she didn’t have control of her powers, but that can’t stop them from allowing the sentinels to improve upon them. Mystique has the ability to change her appearance, not give her another mutant’s powers. Second is Wolverine (as if we don’t get him shoved down our throat often enough), but quickly healing --> adapt --> mimic. Kind of a stretch, but whatever. Not as bad as his healing factor allowing him to withstand sending his conscience back in time.

They botched rogue from the get go anyway. Mystique was a better character in the movie universe cuz baelaw.

you’ve clearly not been updated on mystique in a few years. her powers can do all sorts of shenanigans rogue cant. mystique does have a crazy healing power…shes over 100 years old.

she can regrow limbs

she is a perfect person to use for the plotline more than rogue or wolverine.

Not to mention there would be no way to even have Rogue be involved in that without outright forgoing the OG trilogy (or the OG 2 movies) and recasting her and her role outright.

No, I haven’t been reading comics. But is that really necessary to make my point? I didn’t mean they should use another mutant’s powers, but they could have easily chosen somebody else. IMO, the main reason they used Mystique is because of Jennifer Lawrence’s fame.

Beyond that, they used Rogue as plot device in X1. Hugh Jackman plays a big role in pretty much every X-Men movie and had 2 movies dedicated to him. Turning the attention to Mystique was refreshing.

and then you got fans bitching its the wolverine show again.

Man, I don’t know what’s wrong with Marvel anymore. Wolverine lost his healing factor, and now they are going to kill him. Captain America’s super soldier serum it’s all used up and he is old now; Falcon is going to become the next Captain America. The next Fantastic Four movie is gonna feature a black Johnny while Sue remains white. And now Thor is unworthy of the hammer, and a woman is going to become Thor. Anybody else Marvel feels like screwing up?

they recast the Fantastic Four movie. It was doomed to fail before they even shot one scene, so Fox showed SOME intelligence there.

fun fact: Doctor Doom was going to be a female in that movie.

No they aren’t. It’s comics, nothing is permanent. Thor WILL get the hammer back at some point. CapA WILL get the Super soldier serum back. Wolverine WILL come back to life. IM wil lgo back to red and gold suits as well. They are just trying to raise public interest.

BD/DVD release Oct. 14?

X-men DOFP is returning temporarily to some US theatres for about 2 showings/day.
Check your theatre listing for times.
If you missed out the first time or you want to see it before the blu ray comes out in october, now’s your chance.

Also, here’s some concept art of the future sentinels…

This is countrywide?

The movies out of theatres. It was there briefly for 2 weeks from September 1 - to 12/13.
The digital version was released on google play, itunes yesterday.

Just saw this movie yesterday. A LOT better than I thought it’d be although I still hate them sending Wolverine instead of Kitty.

The Anna Paquin scenes edited from director Bryan Singer’s “X-Men: Days of Future Past” will be restored in a special ‘Rogue Cut,’ planned for release next summer on Blu-ray and DVD.

Speculation from the net: The rogue cut will play out like this…

I kinda believe this , b/c if you watch the 1st trailer there is a snippet of a scene where old Magnus/Iceman are carrying an unconscious Rogue through a building…

SPOILERS for people who don’t want to know what will presumably be included in the Rogue Cut:

[details=Spoiler]Due to Rogue being included, the emphasis on Mystique’s blood being the key to the Sentinel’s powers is played down, so I’m assuming the intro (with the Xavier voiceover explained the Mystique thing) will be tweaked or removed. (I’ll explain why below).

When Wolverine sees Stryker and slashes Kitty to the point where she’s bleeding out, that’s where Rogue’s scenes come into play.

Rogue’s inclusion actually changes a lot of scenes in last third of the film, though the ending is the same.

When Magneto, Iceman, and Xavier have that talk about Kitty being too injured, in the “Rogue Cut”, that’s when they decide to rescue Rogue, as her powers allow her to do Kitty’s job.

Rogue is being held in the X-Mansion, which has been converted into a Trask Laboratory. They are experimenting on her by taking her powers and injecting them into the Nimrod Sentinels (which explains how they absorbed Iceman and Colossus’ powers in the beginning of the film). That’s why the Sentinels are pretty much indestructible, because they can just absorb a mutant’s powers and then be immune to the effects. I’m assuming Mystique’s blood just allowed the Sentinels to “shapeshift” through powers permanently, to adapt to an enemy.

A bit of the rescue sequence was seen in the first trailer, but pretty much Xavier flies the X-Jet, Magneto and Iceman rescue Rogue, but Iceman is killed in the process.

I’m assuming around the same time, this is where 70’s Mystique’s trek in the Mansion is happening, where she runs into Wolverine and Beast (seen a bit in the trailer - the whole Wolverine’s speech to Mystique about being"badass but crazy" Mystique’s all “tell me how you really feel”).

The Mansion burns down as Magneto, Rogue, and Xavier escape back to the Temple. Rogue takes over for an almost dead Kitty. Also, this was the reason why the Sentinels were able to the find the X-men at the end of the film. They followed them as they escaped the mansion.

It’s not been clarified if Kitty dies or just stays heavily injured, but based on the b-roll footage, Kitty’s foothold on keeping 70’s Wolverine stable suddenly gets weaker, since in the b-roll footage, Wolverine wakes up in the mansion saying “Rogue!”, knowing that she’s taken over. Beast then comes in to tell him Mystique’s gone.

I’m assuming this leads into the Presidential address that takes up the last bit of the film.

The rest of the movie pretty much plays the same.[/details]

I’ve never found the sentinels too be scary except for Nimrod. They should bring The Fury for one of the movies, it’s like a Predator.

i always thought the sentinels that could look human were dope. but i could see them gettin sued by battlestar niggas.

Some good news:

I’m probably in the minority, but I haven’t liked the overall focus on Xavier, Magneto and Mystique that started with First Class. Overall, they’re good films, but none of those characters have ever interested me all that much - their movie versions especially.

Following X-Men: Apocalypse, I’d like to see them start with the recasted X-Men regulars.
